I’m not the Special one, but hello.
Having a regular job makes it easier to check the Dope it seems, rather than the other way around.

Hey Nooner! Happy (Jewish) New Year! Seems kinda weird that your New Year and our Ramadan coincide this year!
Yep, that’s right - tomorrow is the first of Ramadan ([post=8817565]reference point[/post] for those who are confused) so we have stocked our cabinet with several 4 litre (about 1 gallon, I think) boxes of cheap but nice red wine and are bracing ourselves for the onslaught of food, food and more FOOD. Kinda silly for a holy month of fasting, when you’re supposed to be trying to empathise with the poor! But that’s life in an Islamic country, where the vast majority of restaurants (expect in hotels) are closed until sundown and then it’s a free-for-all until dawn (but no alcohol anywhere)!!! And to compensate for needing extra night hours to stuff one’s face, the Labour Law prohibits employers from making Muslims work more than 6 hours a day!
Sorry - Noor is crying again, so off once more into the breach, dear friends …
Oh, congratulations! Is “mazel tov” appropiate?
New job! Do tell! Did you set up your own business as you’d been thinking of doing?
waves hi to everybody who’s awake
Looks like it’s just you and** Dottie**.
Well, theoretically I’m editing my book at the moment. Word is fairly alt-tabbable to Firefox. But no official job beyond what I can make with my own bare hands. We’ll see.
meditates about how can someone respond when he apparently isn’t there (bbs2K)
May you edit it well and get it sold, then, Educated Rodent.
Speaking of missing people, has anybody seen Oso Pantanoso?
So all you goyim can impress your Jewish friends - tell them “Lih Shana Tovah Tik-a-tay-vu” which means “have a good year and may you be written in the book of life”
Colloquially, we say simply ‘Shana Tovah’
Dotty - is this onslaught of food anything like a Jewish family giving all their traiff to their Goyishe neighbor for Pesach?
Up. Caffeinating. Royally POed.
VWife went to the hospital yesterday for her pre-op labs, saw a movie about knee jobs, and found out she’ll be in a rehab facility for a week or two post-op. Now, she’s having second, third, and fourth thoughts about going through with it. Near as I can tell, she’s worried about the dogs and what the separation will do to them. :dubious:
My original plan was to put them in dog crates while I was gone during the day, but she doesn’t like that, and now we’re discussing kenneling them for the duration, which won’t be cheap. That settled her down a bit, but she’s still being squirrelly. Talk about swings; she went from no knees to doing both in about 5 minutes. I’ve solicited expert opinion to talk her through that…
My digit is bare today, for the first time. Looks like a Frankenfinger, too…
Rosie, I am not familiar with the Pesach traiff, but I can assure you that once the sun goes down tomorrow (and the following 29 days), there will be more food on the table than you would normally see in 3 straight days of formal family lunches. To use an entirely inappropriate simile, breaking fast is like watching hungry pigs at the trough!!!
Mornin’ Dotty, Sage, bbs2k and VBOB (like the plate).
Shana Tovah, Rosie and Special One!
Nava, I’ve been off-board for awhile and just got back Monday. It was waay last nite/this am before I found out about the big flap. Place me squarely in the camp of loyal Americans who love you!
HSM
Lunch, you got any opinions on that bunch of Neo-Nazis that were over in your neck of the woods?
What a bunch of idiots, IMAO…
Does she have to be in a rehab place? MamaTigs didn’t. Of course, she had me at home all day to help out. That would make going straight home a lot easier.
Insurance is behind that. We live out in East Jeebus, which makes it difficult to get home health care or physical terrorists, and she’d be home alone. They don’t want to pay for her to be in the hospital for a week, so they’re sending her to inpatient rehab. The bonus is that it’s about 4 miles from my office.
Mmm. Lots and lots of food. Sounds good. Happy Pesach, Ramadan, and almost Canadian Thanksgiving!
ems, the kitty is beyond cute. I might mount an attack and steal her. So adorable.
No puking today. So far. And I’m hungry, which is a good sign. It’s perfectly beautiful FALL WEATHER out! Sunny, cool, pretty. Thank goodness. It was 100F last week. Also, today is Attacks Husband’s wedding. We all have to be at city hall at three.
Before then I have to finish cleaning up after the baking binge, and prepare a crockpot full of stew. I can’t remember if there’s anything else, which sounds nice and unbusy. Leftover french toast, cinnamon buns, or cereal for breakfast?
Anyrose-ITA. It seems to me that whoever is in charge of these things doesn’t know what to do, so we just keep doing the same thing? I was embarassed by it last night on the news–surely there is another way to remember the dead. (but then again, we can’t even come up with a memorial). Very odd.
Off to work today. Very busy week.
Dotty-the incisors are not always the first teeth to come in. Good luck–in my experience, the first tooth was the hardest (and the molars).
Ramadan does not sound diet friendly! but it does sound delicious.
And Shania Twain to you, too** rosie**!
Morning Mumpers! It 76, I’m caffeinating, and it’s 3 days and 19 hours till hockey season.
Shana Tovah to rosie and Lunch!
Nava, da bear is apparently too busy guzzling Miller products to play with the Cool Kids[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup].
Roo, I play them every once in a while. I ought to get one of those USB turntables, so I can have a back up. I like winter. It means Hurricanes hockey, Packers football, and breathing without wheezing.
mmmmm, squeee!
VBob where in Ptown will the rehab be? I’m assuming that it’s there since you said it’s close to your work. And is there any fallout down your way from that one city that has disbanded their ambulance service (I think it’s a little east of you, but I saw the story before I left for California last week, and can’t remember the details.
And speaking of that trip, I hope to have the pictures uploaded in the next day or two. It’s a new camera, and I gotta load software to get them transfered.
I can’t believe I’m the first to say this, but cite? And please make it a photograph.
Hello again! Today is the little darling’s official birthday, but since there was so much celebrating Sunday, probably all I’ll do is spend .25 seconds remembering The Joy that Is Labor and Childbirth :dubious:
I’ve been busy promoting The War. No, not that war; World War II. Ken Burns has produced a new 15-hour documentary on the subject, and we’re airing it this fall. Mark your calendars: Sept. 23. Sorry – I’m really in promotion overload. We’re sponsoring 15 events around the state to honor veterans, encourage them to share their war stories and screen a sampler reel of the Burns doc and our programming. It’s pretty grim.
The weather’s cooler today! Hurray! I’m celebrating by wearing boots.
Ah. I see. Yeah, I had no problems getting MT to the physical terrorists nearby. Where I am now…wait a minute, come to think of it, I bet there’s some here. This is not a normal small town, complete with lots of ski injuries calling for PT. Never mind.
She shouldn’t let that deter her from the surgery, though! It will probably suck, but it won’t be for long. In the long run it will be So. Worth. It.
My Norwegian friend has trouble with the concept of thongs. She always refers to them as “string underwear”. Probably very accurate! I hate the things, but occasionally the outfit demands that one is worn - but since I do that so rarely, it usually involves a good few minutes spent looking at said item trying to decide exactly which way it should go.
And don’t get me started on the one with the fake diamonds 'cos those things just scratch in all the wrong places!
