A Mountains, Furniture, and Dogs MMP

Nah… I’m playing hard to get…

Looks like you don’t need much encouragement, anyway

OK, I’m really off to sleep now (it’s 1:15 AM Sunday, here  ) – everybody have a fun Saturday evening/night!

Big ol’ mean looking swan, bunny!!

We managed to purchase 5 tickets for next Sunday, against the Cards. They’re in the cheap seats, but we’re on the 1st row, so hopefully Dad won’t have to climb too many stairs. Bro and wife are supposed to be here Friday, but that’s still being worked out.

I have some massive cleaning to do! I thought I had two weeks. Well, not that bad, really. I cleaned the “guest room” - the office - last weekend. I need to work on the kitchen floor - it’s pretty gross. And get to the guest bath, too. Today I washed the new sheets and towels I bought last weekend.

We got home and Blaze had ripped out a stitch. I had a butterfly closure bandaid and wrapped gauze all the way around him. We’ll see how long that lasts. Stoopit dog! Doesn’t he know he needs to let that big ol’ cut heal! I keep fussing at him to leave it alone. It’s almost time to give him more pain pills and antibiotics. That’s been fun! I dip my finger in peanut butter, pat the pill, then pry open his jaws and ram it down his throat. I hate pilling dogs. He doesn’t trust cheese anymore!

Woo hoo! Oh my, that angry swan pic is something, SnowBunny! But the little cygnet is cute–I keep thinking about The Ugly Duckling! How can you tell the male swan from the female, btw?

I was out of here before 9 AM, on my jaunt to Trader Joe’s and Tar-ghey. I was aware that t-storms were in the forecast, but thought we’d make it back ahead of them. Unfortunately, they struck here while we were in Target! I’m not sure if we got hale, but it sounded like something was beating on the roof of the store; the rain was coming down really hard. During a break in between storms, daughter and I managed to get home, but once there, another wave of t-storms hit and I shut down the computer cause the power flickered several times. Then I took a nap … my knees have been hurting the past few days and I think it’s because I wore these croc-like shoes the other day. Even though they’re supposed to be good for your feet and good for walking in, whenever I wear shoes like that, my knees end up in great pain. IANAD, but I think it’s because my “normal” walk is totally wrong and when I’m in the croc shoes and New Balance sneakers too, for that matter, I have to walk in the “right” way and it throws my body off balance. Yeah, it’s really doing what it’s supposed to, which means that normal for me is what is not normal. If that makes sense. Heh. At any rate, I think I’d better take some alleve tonight.

Oh yeah, MamaTigs, when I was out earlier, it was -extremely- humid, and I too was sweating like a pig! laughs Not a good thing when you’re out and about, shopping at Trader Joe’s and stuff! Fortunately, the storms brought cooler temps and less humidity, so it’s a lot more comfortable now.

Off to dinner with fambly. Daughter has morphed into pissy princess. Calgon, take me away!

Ooh, a challenge!

Well, I never! (cue the mock outrage)
Well, teen boy is off to see a production at school and the little girl is at a birthday party- so we have a grownup night-- my MIL is staying with us, so I think we’ll all go out for dinner.
Ta!

DonkeyBear, McUne, Lepus; yes that’s really me. VWife took that shot October '06, right after I joined the department. It’s also my favorite post-surgical shot of moi.

Oh, I’ll bet you have… :stuck_out_tongue:

Went out rummaging today, it was successful. Hubby found some cheap comic books that he plans to sell, a guy made me a deal on a box of old cookbooks for $3, a couple white tableclothes for 25 cents each, a glass platter for $2, and some free planters to use in my garden. Works out great for me!

Also went to Target and Hy-Vee. Total at Target before coupons was $98, after coupons was $28. Love saving me some money. Came home and napped and now I’m going to make cinnamon rolls.

We just had the BEST dinner!!! Simply, but oh so tasty… meatballs and smoked mozzarella (for me, TVMan is lactose intolerant when he feels like it) on fresh-from-the-oven ciabatta rolls and steak fries. Yum yum yum… And, dessert will probably be [del]me[/del],  er, cookies and cream ice cream.

I can relate. You’re fortunate your oven that caught, and not the freezer part of your side-by-side refrigerator.

It’s true… and often.

Back from dinner- we had Indian food- yummy!

Who is up for Monday’s MMP?

Og knows why, but watched Grease again this afternoon. What a lovely message “I can’t get the boy by being true to my innocent self, so I’ll become a slut and that will make me happy” Plus, it has always pissed me off when Hollywood decides to change or replace a musical number to suit the star - and I am harking back to Guys And Dolls and Th Music Man as well.

That’s just me venting. Ignore me.

We’s back from the anniversary todo. Ya know how I said it’d be horse ovaries? Well, it was a biiiiiiiiiig ol’ bbq buffet. YUM!!! We ate, schmoozed and all that then left a little after nine. We’s tahred. I must get my beauty rest tonight so I shall be all fresh and ready for ushin’ duty tomorrow, after all. I learned tonight that we’re havin’ a baptism tomorrow. That’ll mean extra folks hangin’ about. Good thing I made a biiiiiiiiiig buncha chicken sallit. Plus that means extra ush work makin’ sure everybody finds seats and all. Guess I’ll have to pull out the extra special company manners.

Ok, off to check up on what else is goin’ on at the Dope.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

No one’s signed up yet for Monday’s MMP, Soapy. Are you volunteering?

I am relieved to know that you will be appropriately attired for the do at the country club, swampy. I figure the only people who really get a good deal by belonging to a country club are ones who play golf and tennis a lot and swim there often (assuming the place has all of these amenities).

Looks like a very nice restaurant, Muppet. We’ll expect a detailed report. Oh, and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Hi, SO!!!

Got quite a bit done in the garden. Planted several plants, continued taking apart shrubs, and other stuff I’m forgetting. Afterwards, I cleaned up and went for a walk in the hood. It’s the last Saturday night of the month, so there was a crowd touring all the businesses and listening to bands and eating snacks and generally hanging out. I didn’t feel like going into any of the businesses, but I stopped to admire a couple of artists’ work and went back later to get a latte (I started out to get ice cream, but the line was out the door, so I went next door instead). Somewhere in there I had din din, too.

Now I’m sleepy. Prolly because I didn’t sleep very well last night. Hmmmm, maybe I’ll turn in early.

Happy Saturday evening. all!

If no one else wants to, I will! Though I make no promises of quality writing, cool photos or angry swans.

Hmmm, I need a topic…

So…not a busy night at work, I take it, beebs?

Very interesting numbers.

We just need a start, Soapy. Pretty much anything will do. Although, the swan/oil price topic does sound fascinating.

Why exactly am I still awake???

On Memorial Day, my dh & I grilled steaks, for just the two of us (this empty nest thing has advantages – for one thing, it’s cheap!).

On a serious note, I found out this week that my son-in-law has been diagnosed w/Reye’s Syndrome. He’s running a graphic arts business out of his home so he can be a stay-at-home dad (his wife/my daughter’s a k-8 music teacher). He’s an avid reader, a Star Wars/SciFi fan, & has an impish sense of humor.

Do any of you wonderful dopers out there know where I can find a collection of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels? Used is great.

Love, Phil

I just finished eating dinner - I made a huge pot of lentils. Hopefully, they’re exotic and strange enough for the roommates to turn up their noses in disgust and not eat them. (Being an ex-vegetarian, I practically lived on chickpeas and lentils though.)

We won’t talk about the 40 minutes of dishes-doing that preceded it. I also have been keeping my big dutch oven in my room because roommates aren’t very friendly toward kitchen implements. Well, the big metal pot is going to take up residence in there too, because someone tried cooking couscous. Here’s how (I think) they did it:

Step one: Ignore box instructions. Scratch ballsack.
Step two: Smell hand, dump box of couscous and cups and cups of water into my big nice pan.
Step three: Go get high, ignore pan, come back some time later to find a big soupy mess of couscous
Step four: Bitch about how gross couscous is, and leave a pan full of rancid water, couscous, and a 1/2" thick layer of carbonized couscous (on the bottom) on the stove to ferment.
Step five: Masturbate.
