A new topic for Slackards in the MMP

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. I am feeling much better today.

Yesterday, I was kinda-sorta feeling better (holding down water! Yay!) roughly around when I was supposed to go in, and vaguely considered texting S.M. with an offer to come and at least help close.

Then I rolled over & closed my eyes.

Next conscious thought: “Why the hell is it so dark?”

So, uh, that was a “no” on work yesterday.

And yes, @Seanette Monkey has been a wonderful snuggle-buddy and in fact is currently curled up at just the right distance for me to scritch his chin, and occasionally, gently, pat his ribcage. (Gotta thump them to know if they’re ripe!)

Talked to BIL, so he’s not dead, but apparently not for lack of trying. He won’t go out to get a little exercise - just sits around his apartment eating pretzels and chips. He’s got a pacemaker (I forgot about that) and he’s been having swollen legs. His team (long story, but they’ve been assigned to make sure he takes his meds and such) includes a nurse who doesn’t sound as forceful as our resident nurse  but at least he’s being seen periodically. His nurse did mention blood clots…

Anyway, his big VISA charge was for getting his cat spayed and generally checked out. And the cat is part of the reason he doesn’t listen to his nurse - he’s afraid he’ll end up in the hospital and no one will care for the cat. I told him we’ll take care of her if he’s hospitalized, but I don’t know if he believed me. Enough issues there for multiple subscriptions.

When FCD and I married, I had a feeling we’d wind up responsible for his brother, and I wasn’t wrong. But at least he’s got his mental health team, so it’s not all falling on us. I’m pretty sure without his team, he’d have ended his life by now. Dunno what will happen if he outlives us.

Well, if he listened to his nurse, wouldn’t that lessen the chance of him being hospitalized?

(I get it, he’s not rational.)

I forgot! Obviously, I didn’t get a sunrise pic this morning, but I caught this last night on Chloé’s constitutional:

I had to zoom in quite a bit. There are a lot of trees and houses on the west side of my house.

Afternoon all. Shopping was done and Jersey Mike’s #8 is in my belly, so off to the gym here in a bit, mostly to do the Moanday weigh-in and see if all the exercise and watching what I was eating has helped me drop some of the excess vacation poundage. And then I need to stop slacking off doing my registration and training for the Youth Soccer fall season, they changed systems on me and I don’t want to play with the new system, I was quite good with the old one, but time moves on…

Ah, my dorm roomie my Junior year…

Flyboy, hope they will excuse you from jury duty, sounds like you have multiple reasons at this time.

FCM, one of these days I am going to use my carpet cleaner (another slacking off I just thought of). More likely I’ll just replace the carpet before I move in a couple of years. And if BIL continues as he is, I seriously doubt he’s going to outlive either you or FCD.

doggio, it is amazing that anything gets anywhere…

BBBoo, that’s really hot, and I lived in the Middle East for 4 years, so I do know hot.

shoe, glad to hear you feeling better, take it easy today if you can so it doesn’t make a comeback.

Mollie, nice pic as always. Your uncanny in your ability to get the exact perfect moment.

And time to pack up the old gym bag and sweat, sweat, sweat. Will give Sonic another try for dinner but if they are ill-staffed again I’ll take my Whataburger gift cards with me. Take it easy, all.

Yeah, he worries about… stuff…

Not to speak ill of the dead, but I think his parents coddled him too much, because of his problems. And, of course, I’m just Monday morning quarterbacking - I didn’t know him as a child and teen, so I don’t know what they dealt with. But even into his 50s and 60s, they kept managing his life.

Just added a few more entries to my Book of the Dead spreadsheet - a couple of accounts I forgot to include. I should probably start printing out everything and putting it in the binder. Electronic files are fine, till they disappear. Paper is forever… till it disappears.

Deep, huh?

In retrospect, the military coming for me in 1967 was likely the best thing that could have happened to me.

Got my hip injections done. It has been two years since the last ones, so they also did x-rays, which didn’t show any significant deterioration, thankfully. That means it’s still inflamed bursas causing the problems. I should start using ice packs, I guess.

The humidity is brutal out there. I feel for the road crews working in it.

Glad I wasn’t the only collegiate slacker

Mooom Glad you have some support for that situation.

Boofae , Swampy et al I will certainly do my best. Although I don’t want to dump on you guys. I am having a spectacularly bad day at the moment. Between

AC repeatedly freezing at my house (better today)

Having a fight with my bestie so he wants to not talk for awhile

I just got my butt chewed over a irk thing that happened yesterday.. potentially putting my shiny new job in jeopardy

Just got word a friend is in the hospital with TIA

I can’t even go outside to cry… Cos its raining.
I has a megablurf.

Evenin’

I did consider starting the MMP this morning but, well, I am a stoodint slacker.

I slacked at skool for A levels and got grades well below my predicted ones, then actually dropped out of university first time round, at 18.

With the way the funding works here, you can get a loan for a full undergrad course + 1 year, so if you drop out in the first year, you can try again, but if you drop out after that, you need to find the money up front for one year. You also have to pick the topic before you start and there’s very little opportunity to change. I hadn’t really wanted to go, I wanted to take a year out to think about options, but I couldn’t find a job and my mother basically insisted (because she didn’t go and only one of her sister’s kids went, best I can make out).

A gap decade and a half later, I went back in my 30s, on impulse really. I found a topic I was interested in and hopefully there are jobs in, then hit the jackpot with a funded Master’s degree, which led to the Pee Haitch Dee. I don’t expect to ever pay off the loans for undergrad, but they’re not too oppressive here.

I’m not slacking too much with the Pee Haitch Dee, it just turns out to be quite complicated. OK, I’m sleeping in, but it’s not like I need to attend lectures or anythin’, I’m writing on my own schedule, and if that be at odd hours, so be it. Nyah.

Soggy afternoon here in western Mitten State. Tunderboomers, et al.

Fine by me, as long as the power stays on.

Radar (not M.A.S.H. Radar) predicts it will dissipate in an hour or two in our area & head eastward. @Kitten_Mitten your plants might get some watering!

Monkey is sitting in the window watching the rain, looking for all the world like that Art Deco “Le Chat Noir” poster.

Hoo, boy, the universe is dumping on you!

Vent away to us as needed.

I appreciate it shoe. I’m glad you are feeling better. Skritch da monk for me.

Slacking off - it’s almost bedtime and I’m just catching up with the rest of you slackers.

Speaking of slacking off, I don’t think I even posted last week. Oops.

Baked an apple cake this evening as the rest of the week’s going to be too hot for baking. Meant to do the ironing, but trying to fit the theme of the week, so maybe that’ll happen tomorrow evening.

No sunrise pictures here, but this was about 20 minutes ago. We don’t usually get good sunsets or sunrises - wrong kind of moisture.

Imgur

absolutely beautiful! I love the colors!!!

I’m very very glad that you mentioned this because it reminded me of one of the very worst slacks of my life. I’m a big procrastinator but possibly the worst slacking was that I never backed up the previous computer. When it fried itself, I lost so very very very many files. I was very depressed about it for a long time. Aaaagh, sitting here thinking about it is making me verklempt; there was critical info I can never get back. So, please take a page from my woeful experience and be sure that you back up your files. Make copies of critical info but have your computer backed up regularly.

Pearl That’s what we’re here for. Sometimes you can’t dump on your family, your friends, your co-workers; you need others who will just listen and if needed, offer support. :people_hugging:

I appreciate it. I did, in fact, get fired.

Da Monk has been thoroughly skritched.

That looks perfectly idyllic.

Aw, naw! :frowning:

It is loudly raining here, and has been for a while.

I went back and checked on Sunday’s postings, and I have a reply for Metal_Mouse’s question about the possibility of an Indy winner being lactose intolerant. They’ve thought of that. They have a cooler full of options; whole milk, 2% milk, milk with lactase added so the lactose-intolerant, and even soy milk, in case the winner is sponsored by Silk. The Dairy Assn. kicks in prize money to encourage the keeping of the tradition.

By the way, getting around lactose intolerance is a simple matter. The problem is that your body no longer makes the enzyme lactase. All you have to do is take a lactase pill (such as Dairy Ease, Lactaid, or a cheaper generic lactase) with your meal.

Carly Simon, now 83, has released a new album. Good for her.

I am filthy. A day in the warehouse will do that to you. I have tried since I started at the museum to make the spare space usable, with some limited success.

Frankly the problem is, the guy in charge of the place is, as I’ve said before, a ditherer. Just make a damn decision and act, rather than plan and plan and plan about what may happen.

Anyway, I’m off to shower, then leftover pizza that I made while my dog was wandering around the neighborhood yesterday. To bed and gloriously throwing things away from the warehouse tomorrow.

(I love throwing things away.) Museums and theaters have the same problem. We ain’t got no money, this thing might be useful somewhere, let’s keep it. Then you end up with a place full of crap that is moderately useful if the institutional memory is still there. But mostly it’s crap. I made my boss go through 8 4 drawer file cabinets today. She saved about 3" of stuff.

Continuing the discussion from A new topic for Slackards in the MMP:

:people_hugging:

That seriously sucks and certainly not helpful at all. I’m sorry life has chosen you to shit on this year and hope it stops soon.

I’m glad you are feeling better shoe and VanGo I do hope Ms Peach stops taking herself out, you don’t have enough hair as it is, you certainly don’t need to be ripping it out while running down the street after her.

So I’ve been a slacker all of my life. I was good at testing so got great grades without much work. It took me ten years to get my useless Masters because I didn’t have help from my folks. They had made it very clear all my life that if I wanted college, I would have to figure it out myself. (Of course, my sisters got college and cars paid for, three of my nieces had college paid for as well. Not that I’m bitter or anything.)

I’ve even been slacking here, I’m so bored that I can’t find anything to say, LOL!

So, I asked NF to buy TC friend some white carnations because I couldn’t get them delivered. NF learned that there were no white carnations in the state for whatever reason and brought TC friend some roses instead. That made TC friend happy (she recently lost her parents) which is what I wanted so it all worked out.

Except that NF hasn’t told me how much I owe her. I knew she was going to do this, but I will not forget.

Hubs favorite niece - my favorite one as well - is on the other side of the state this week. I’d really like to go and have lunch with them, but we will also be doing a long drive for the family reunion this week and my shoulder doesn’t like long drives on country roads. I’m getting better, though.

It may remain, but the right people don’t have the passwords to get to them.

{{{pearl}}}

That totally sucks. Hugs!

I slacked off my sophomore and junior years of HS. I got my poop in a group my senior and graduated in the upper 25% of my class. I began college, then, fell in lurrrrrrrve, went to Colorado for nearly a year and came back. After that, college was hit and miss and I didn’t manage to graduate.

I want to the podiatrist this afternoon, came home and took delivery of the space balls that I infuse. The one big positive thing about them is that I can do unlimited cheese to mitigate some of the adverse digestive issues the antibiotics cause.

Evening all. Exercise has been sweated and according to the gym scale I use I have dropped 4.2 lbs this past week, down to 208lbs so one more week of watching my diet along with exercise should get me below 205 which is where I want to be. Celebrated with a Super Sonic Double Cheeseburger so I’ll feel guilty enough to go back to the gym tomorrow. The evening internettin’ will be performed and might even stop slacking on the soccer training…or maybe tomorrow…

Cookie, good news on the hip, my brother had to have a hip replacement and it really limited his activity (he uses a cane these days and he’s younger than me).

Pearl, so sorry about the job news, hope something better comes along. I lost my only full-time teaching job after one year (to be fair, I wasn’t very good at it and the school was not a good match), but after a year of substituting I got the Government job and never looked back for 33 years. May you have similar luck (even if not for that length of time). And {{{{hugs}}}} for the rest of it.

Nut, quite a story and hoped the Piled High and Deep comes together for you.

shoe, keep taking it easy and get feeling better.

Dicey, know all about apple pie, not sure I have ever had an apple cake but I’ll look into it. And nice picture.

Cat Glove, thanks for that story, I probably need to do a backup with my computer here, just to be safe. It’s about 7 years old and I’ll probably be replacing it sometime in the near future (they still sell desktops, don’t they?).

Knots, thanks for the info on the Indy Milk Run. I am not lactose intolerant so I’ve never looked too hard at the topic. Still getting educated.

VanGo, I can feel with the museums, I have lots of stuff (crap) that might be useful one day so I find a place to put (hide) it. So far not a hoarder, but if/when I move to a smaller place, I’ll need to go into full review mode.

JtC, great that your Arizona friends are still close to your heart, and they both still care a lot for you, that is obvious. Keep getting better.

red, happy infusing! And cheese as supporting medicine…will wonders never cease.

And that catches me up for now. Will try to get a late-night final in depending on the amount of slackage I encounter.
