A new topic for Slackards in the MMP

Howdy Y’all! We did indeed slack all day. Didn’t even go get gas cause I could not be bothered to go anywhere. We are under a heat advisory so I was happy to be inside in the a/c. However, the advisory is not near as bad as what BBBoo is experiencin’. YIKES! I did get the neighbor’s and our trash cans hauled all the way back up from the road to where they stay all week. I also made a very nummy sup with leftovers for tomorrow, so win-win there!

Cookie hope the injection brings relief.

Taters you had cataract surgery and a big visit with your family. You deserve to have RDOS sloth time. Go get that pedicure.

Herald AIR you are a lawyer so seems to me you more than made up for your slacker high skool daze.

WetOne I haven’t had or made a seven layer sallit in years. Now I just might have to one day soon. I am sorry the bacon didn’t taste as wonderful as it used to. Sometimes tastes do change.

BooFae I"m not sure about the sunshine, but I do agree with the app on bringin’ snacks.

FlyBoy I haven’t had a jury summons in years. Maybe this will be one of those call to see if you’re needed things and you won’t be needed.

MOOOOOOM you cleaned up ick, so you get out of weed duty. Hope everything is OK with BIL. I see he is still alive but not bein’ very good at it.

Mollie I suppose a trumpet would be useful at band camp. Of all things to forget! Yay for gettin’ to present today!

doggio snort it was a triple major in counselin’, stoner, and floozyin’.

MetalMouse I am of the mind that systems change because it’s someone’s job somewhere to mess up things that work.

shoe sounds like you got some much needed rest.

{{{Pearl}}} so sorry you are havin’ such a bad day! Of course you can always come in here and dump, vent, be silly, or whatever. This is what the MMP is for! So sorry you lost your job!

VanGo when I irked, I delighted in throwin’ stuff out. I especially loved goin’ through old files and gettin’ rid of 'em.

JtC glad you’re gettin’ better. I agree about long drives. One in one week is enough.

Earlier today, just for no reason at all, I decided to run my car thru Kelley Blue Book. My 2012 Hyundai Sonata with 225K miles is worth about $600. Such an insult!!! A new, bottom of the line Sonata has an MSRP of $27,450. Not that I’m shopping. I knew my car wasn’t worth much, but I’d have guessed $1500. Nope.

The only thing knowing this is good for would be as a data point should my car need a major repair. But it does irk me to think that if someone totaled it for me, I couldn’t expect enough money to replace it. And were I still working and relying on it to commute, it would be flat-out devastating. But being RDOS as well as having the pick-up available, losing my car would just piss me off.

I did some stationery bike pedaling while watching a program about Rasputin. Then I came back upstairs and watched another show about natural disasters in New Zealand. So a happy evening here. I just ate some grapes and I’m about to take to the recliner again and see what else I can stream.f

And an extra {{{Pearl}}} for good measure.

Like many, my worst slacking happened in college. I was a Very Good Kid in high school and during freshman year of undergrad, but sophomore year I discovered professors who would let you cut a certain number of classes without it affecting your grade…eventually I succumbed, and it became a slippery slope. Like others I was smart enough to do a fair amount of slacking and still get by, but I pushed things too far at the end of senior year: I cut a philosophy class so many times that I wound up failing – despite doing well on the tests and exams (it was philosophy) – and I didn’t graduate on time! I wasn’t even allowed to walk with my class. I didn’t find out until so close to graduation that I already had my cap and gown. Telling my parents was not fun. I took a summer class, and graduated in August instead of May. In the long run it didn’t matter one bit, but at the time it was very embarrassing.

I’m learning that my washer (a top-loading HE Maytag) is kind of finicky/sensitive. Last night it got stuck on “wash,” then when I tried starting the cycle over it got stuck again…that time making a not-great noise, with no lights on the panel! I was finally able to get it to go through a full “rinse and spin” cycle, after which I decided that everything was clean (:crossed_fingers:) and put it in the dryer. But I lost at least an hour, and wound up going to bed later than I should have. It’s gotten stuck one other time in the almost-two-months that I’ve lived here, shortly after I moved in, but I thought it was the setting I chose; my weekly laundry for the past month or so has gone smoothly. I don’t think the load was off-balance, but it could have been that…or maybe the third Tide pod I threw in at the start (it was a larger-than-usual load) was too much. I’ll never know. I took a chance and started a second, smaller load right away, and that one went through the entire cycle with no problem. I guess going forward I’ll stick with medium-sized loads and a max of two Tide pods at a time!

I started the day by deciding to trim my bangs. My hair is weird: my bangs grow at a typical rate, but the rest of my hair…doesn’t. I’ve had exactly the same shoulder-length tresses for many, many years now. I also haven’t been to a professional hair stylist since before the pandemic, so there’s a chance I’ll actually lose an inch or so of damaged/split ends if I ever go to a salon again. Anyway, my bangs have needed to be trimmed for about a week, and this morning I decided to break out the scissors. Lately I’d been doing a pretty decent job of trimming them, and remembering to cut less than I think I need to, but for whatever reason I wasn’t careful today. I’ve definitely done worse to myself, but they’re too short. The worst of it will grow out in a week, and by two weeks from today they might look sort of alright again. The upside is that they won’t need to be trimmed again for a while…heh. I’m definitely a walking example of the old saying that the difference between a bad haircut and a good haircut is two weeks!

Luckily, my overzealous snipping didn’t set the tone for the rest of the day. It was another nonstop one, including a lot of multitasking, but not a bad one. Tomorrow will be a long day, but miraculously I only have two meetings…I might actually be able to get some stuff done. We’ll see!

One thing I missed/meant to reply to from the old thread, before I dive into this week’s:

Heh! He’s at Ft. Hood, right? “Only” ~170 miles from Irving! :joy: But, he’s closer to it than I am…it would be funny if we wound up at the same convention. I’m leaning toward going – flying to DFW on a Saturday morning and coming home the following Monday – but won’t decide for a couple more weeks. I won’t wait too long, though, so the airfare doesn’t spike too much; I have a “watch” on my round trip in Google Flights.

I’m glad he isn’t, but !

Ha! I used to thump Bailey’s ribcage all the time. No earthly idea why, and I never thumped her anywhere else, but she never seemed to mind.

:frowning:

First of all, let me say, to every one of you :

Y’ALL ROCK MY SOX SO FREAKING HARD..

and I mean that with all my heart..

It must’ve been meant to be that I chose now to pop my head back in. Not because it fixes anything, but because it reconnects me to something I badly need at the moment.: a community of people who love me… a little pocket universe full of goats and squids and chaos.. I will try not to forget that again…

I enjoyed a pretty good dinner. Fish and Rally fries because I had a gnawin’ and a cravin’ and some questionable coleslaw ( not bad for my first attempt at homemade, but I could use some pointers)
Tomorrow I get back up , try to start pounding the pavement and deal with another job hunt.. but tonight..

tonight I feel loved, and besides my folks and my fam, I have you to thank..

And so I do…thank you from the bottom of my butt (it’s bigger than my heart)

Rosie’s sig to you all .

Love you guys!

Ms Peach scarpered again this afternoon. Fortunately my neighbor was out with their dog and she was quickly recovered, only about half an hour or run around, and I now know where she’s escaping from. Will be fixed after a trip to Lowes in the morning.

Nelson scampered out when the guy delivering the infusions was at the door. Fortunately, he comes when called. Given that he’s small enough that, were he behind a car, he likely wouldn’t be picked up by the back up camera.

I had a good, long nap. Now I’m up, having an Old Fashioned, spicy cheeseburger, fries, and corn on the cob.

Glad you’re feeling better.

“Having cats is like living with art that sometimes throws up on the rug”

Cool.

The Catholic in my loves ridding myself of excess posessions.

{{{{Pearl}}}}

Even if you do, we’ll still be here when you come back.

10pm local and time for my first late-night final of the week.

FCM, you can also check with Carmax to see what they would give you for it (I doubt it would be very different). Think they will quote on-line and at least for my old car they paid me (after inspection) what they quoted.

Oopsie, my washer is fine with 3-pod loads, but the dryer has been making odd squeals and noises (which go away after a few minutes). Long as it keeps drying I won’t worry too much, but may be looking for a replacement someday…

Pearl, your entirely welcome and we’ll be here, present and future. Names may change now and then but the core of the MMP will never change. Be well.

VanGo, happy dog-proofing!!

And off to Slumberland I head. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Would you believe 175 g? I wouldn’t believe it, only I weighed it myself. And yes, it does say ‘150 g’ on the toy. The 175 g Star Glow Frisbee I bought in 2019 weighs in at 177 g. The vintage one and the new one are just about the same size, though the vintage, black, ‘Master Tournament 150g’ is more interesting because it has ‘record grooves’ and a ‘cupola’. So it’s reasonable that they weigh about the same. But… It actually says ‘150g’ on the disc!

ETA: The Wham-O boomerang came today too. I was going to remove the ‘2.99’ price tag that was on it, but it was from Gemco. Yes, I had a Gemco card. I still have a dome tent I bought there, and I have a Gemco manual-drip coffee urn too.

Hey all. Jumping in to say we watched The Sheep Detectives, I unsuccessfully attempted to change a plane ticket, and I’ll visit a vampire tomorrow.

Cute movie.

Ms Peach has lost off leash privileges for the foreseeable future. I think I know where she’s getting out, will fix tomorrow.

Lowe’s does spay/neuter now?

Is THAT what the hammers are for?

:frowning:

Because thump that’s why.

Monkey doesn’t seem to mind one lil bit, so thump away I shall. (Gently. Just enough to hear that hollow “thump.”)

I genuinely thought this was gonna be a baseball post.

I would absolutely cross stitch that onto a pillow. One that would promptly be washed.

Bad Peach!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 71 degrees Ferret Height(21.667 Centipedes).

I guess that works better than removing legs.

Spot is not thumpable.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/70f with a predicted high of 27c/80f and cloudy. Weather app says “This is a great fucking day if you burn easily like I do. Fuck the sun.” I agree, I am not enjoying this at all.

{{{{{Pearl}}}}} we’re here for the bad times as well as the good. I’m really sorry to hear about your job though, that sucketh mightily.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better, shoe, and Monks has been a good nursie!

Poor Ms Peach, and poor you having to go looking for her every time. I hope you can fix wherever she’s making her escape from.

Yesterday was a busy day with non-irk things and the evening spin class was cancelled so I went to the gym and did an hour of other stuff to burn some calories. Then I came home and gathered up all the rubbish for today’s collection, and hauled the biiiig bin out to the kerb.

Today I’m logged in and not very enthusiastic. I have one meeting this morning which may be quite short, and nothing else on the cards so I can potter through some irk stuff. Kettlebells tonight and it’s my turn to cook dinner so we’re having chicken curry.

I might make the curry at lunchtime as I’ve got an hour’s break today. Then I can do campus food when I log out of irk, and I’ll still get a bit of sofa time with Blossom before I have to leave for the gym.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy, becomin’ sunny later this mornin’, with a predicted high of 95 and sunny. We have a heat advisory in effect with a heat index around 110 expected. A good day to stay in da cave in the a/c. It’s also laundry day, be still my heart. I shall go in a little while before it gets too hawt and gas up vehicle as well as get lawn mower gas. I must do this. Outside of that and laundry high RDOS inactivities shall prevail. Sup will be leftovers so that will be easy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!
