That depends on where one’s ancestors are from. If you’re expecting a beet-only soup, than no, this isn’t from that part of the world. This version is from Ukraine and starts with a hamhock and includes carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, and cabbage as well as the beets. It’s delicious, incredibly rich, and surprisingly not all that bad for you with all those vegetables in there. Borscht appears to be one of those things like spaghetti sauce, chili, or curry that mean a huge variety of dishes depending on where your grandmother was from and how she learned to make it when she was a kid.
Tarra, that wasn’t from ICHC.com, that was an actual retail site.
Still no kitty. Not feeling optimistic. It’s been cold and rainy, so I think she’d want to come home…
Beautiful baby (Thomas)!
blurf.
I don’t know why, but I’ve been nearly constantly sleepy since I moved in to my parents’ house. I blame my dad and him keeping the house so cold. It’s spring! I shouldn’t have to stay bundled in a blanket! I’m not doing very well on getting my homework done.
On the plus side, I got my last financial aid check and it’s nearly $1800, and I’ll be getting a check for another fifty for some work I did. Yay for money!
Hi Y’all! Bye Y’all! Gotta go do the soup 'n sammich thang! Need to get stuff ready over to the chruch house.
Hugs, gropes, boos, yays, noogies, trouts, chitlins, how you doin’s as needed.
Ow, c-section. Must… keep… moving…
Nat’s response at the hospital yesterday was, “Oh, a baby. Oh, a brother. We did it! Mommy, come down and play.”
Thanks, everyone. We got an early discharge and are at home. Thomas is asleep in his carseat, Gnat’s coming by with the grandparents for a visit, and Mr. Lissar and I are relearning how not to sleep at night.
Newborns are so weird-looking. And cute. But weird-looking.
Dang, LiLi, you got home quick! Not that I blame you - I hate staying in the hospital!! That’s one cute kidlet you grew!!
Work on the house continues. Peach cobbler is baked, chickie is in the oven, dunno what sides we’ll have yet. **FCD **is sleeping. He worked from home today, as he expects to till his surgery. And after his surgery. He’s going to get sick of the house.
I’m watching the guys out front gathering the garbage into the truck - they need a young flunkie to do that! But I guess young flunkies cost money, so they do it themselves. No matter to me - as long as they get up the nails.
C’mon Firday!!!
Hi LiLi! Sorry you’re hurting. Hope you heal up quickly. Hope all of the new baby adjustments go well.
Welcome back Li Li! I love Gnat’s response: “we did it!”
I’m suffering from chocolate withdrawal. We had some very good spaghetti and meatballs made by TVMom and I was going to bake the Pillsbury cookies in the fridge for dessert but they were gone!!!
That’s my whine for today. Now we’re going to watch a movie. Glad that you’re doing well, Li-Li!
Glad you’re home Li-Li. The baby is a cutie. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you to not to strain or lift unneccessarily.
I survived another day of irk. I’m so ready for a vacation, but unfortunately, my next big block of leave isn’t until August…sigh.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous today, but, of course, I was at work and couldn’t enjoy it. Hubby came home from work and mowed the lawn.
That’s about all of I’ve got for now. I’ll need to figure out the dinner thing in a bit.
Glad you’re home, LiLi! That new kidlet is a real cutie! Love the name, too. And Nat’s reaction.
Glad IB will be home soon, Haze.
That sounds quite annoying, MBG. Gotta say my one experience with HP was very positive.
Just consider it a fair trade, Bobbio. Now you like the one line and he likes the other! Also, I posted the recipe to the blog.
Tired and ready for bed, I think…
Hugs.
GT
Home from irk, staring at dogs.
Welcome home LiLi!
Yay for Haze!
Awwww…goes into cute-baby coma
Irk went okay. I’m learning the front desk, so I can cover during breaks and help out during emergency rushes and stuff. It’s fun! Some of it’s very similar to what I’ve been doing, some of it’s very different, and some of it is just similar enough to totally screw me up. But I’ll be fine.
For birthdays we get free dinner for two at one of the resort’s restaurants. burp Free…filet mignon…stuffed to the gills…burp And leftovers for at least another meal and a half. So yum.
Grandma gave us a hell of a scare today; she felt like absolute crap this morning and ended up in the CCU. Apparently she has early congestive heart failure (she’s had some heart issues for a while now), but is on all sorts of meds for that and her EEG is fine now. I’m going to kill her for scaring me like that, though I have to get in line behind her daughters.
I want a baby now.
Anyone know any areas in Philly I should avoid? I’ve always been a city gal and I know from experience that as long as I stay on the beaten tourist path I should be okay.
How about this baby?
as far as Philly, all I know is don’t wear a non-Flyers jersey to a hockey game.
Very cute, but I think my boyfriend would be skeptical if I told him he’s the father.
Awake. Why?
Welcome home, Li-Li!! Welcome to the world, Thomas!
I’ve heard you can buy almost anything (right next door,) in China…
Wait, that’s a requirement now…?
OK, never mind.
**Ivory **-- fingers crossed that kitty still comes home
No hot water again this morning…I swear I cannot wait to get the hell out of Paris
Off to get passport photos done for US visa…
