lol id of looked at that said “nope” and went back to bed

Back from the eye doc. Only one clown fish in the tank, so I guess that one’s a female now. Fish be weird.

Eye doc says maybe treating the severe dry eye would help. (I’ve already had the ducts lasered after having had plugs.) Get this: I have a NASAL SPRAY to use for it. And it gets weirder. If you hit the right spot on the nasal wall, you sneeze a lot, and your eye waters (mildly) for 8 hours. If you miss it, the stuff burns like Hades. Sounds fun.

It was still light out, so I decided to walk to the bus terminal there. ERROR. Despite the sun being out, it started sleeting hard en route. (No frozen rainbows, either.) I got drenched. I took the bus back to my city, but I was too cold and wet to walk the 2 miles home, so I got an Uber. And because I’m out of soup or anything to make it with, I ordered in. Look at me being all spendy!

{{{{Quietly and Havoc}}}} I’m so sorry she’s gone. It sounds like her passage was serene and painless, which is good. I’m glad you’re getting cat comfort.

sari, sounds like interesting feeding time at your house. My son and his wife adopted a dog that was 30 lbs. underweight. A few months later, they got a dog that was 30 pounds OVERweight. The skinny one loved the outdoors, so they put her dinner out there so the other dog wouldn’t inhale both dinners. But the skinny dog wouldn’t eat unless the obese dog was watching longingly through the glass door. Despite this, they were besties and both achieved their ideal weight.

Also, sari, I’m sorry about your old friend. It’s been a rough week for that. And catglove, you hit the nail on the head.

Quick! Call Geraldo Rivera!

Slept later than usual, since it’s 10:00p.m. EST hockey tonight. I had the Manhattan with
Redneck Stirfry.

For something so small, they do take up a big piece of space in our hearts, don’t they?

When I lived in Durham in the '80s, my house abutted a cow farm. Now it’s housing as far as the eye can see.

Cool!

Dagon right.

At this point if it was me, I’d seriously consider removing my eyes with sporks.

Oh, I’ve had that done already. It was performed by The Swedish Chef. Spork, spork, spork!

Spørk! Spørk! Spørk!

Okay, that was funny.

So sorry for Havoc. {{{silenus}}}

Good to see you shoe!

Was a most mixed day. Spent 3+hours sorting cables…HDMI, comm port, USB-blah blah blah, was quite satisfying, and cleared a huge area of the shop. It’s remarkable how much space a tangled pile of random cables can take up. But then spent a long time with the game developers, remotely, trying to figure out why their hardware/software interface isn’t working. Best answer I got was “I did something with the ethernet when it was here” Thanks dude.

Anyway, on to tomorrow, where I venture to the local High school to help save the musical. Wish me luck, and that I don’t actually have to deal with any teenagers. I’ve been assured that I’m gettin paid with no “teaching requirements.” I just build shit.

So tomorrow will be less jeweler’s screwdrivers and fiddly tiny electrical connections and more platforms for kids to dance on. Somethin different, I guess.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Another new recipe that needs a few modifications next time. The Garlic Noodles with Beef and Broccoli was all right, but next time, I’m doubling the sauce and putting it in with the beef and broccoli to think things over while the noodles are cooking. IMO this needs the extra flavor and moisture. I did use 1lb of beef instead of 1/2 lb., both because that’s the size package I had and since I’m cooking for a diabetic, I felt that adjusting the protein/carb ratio was a good bet. I had misread the recipe and gotten fresh broccoli (pre-cut, I wasn’t feeling that ambitious) instead of frozen, but it worked fine.

the extra moisture was because the frozen broccoli thawing while being cooked when you didn’t use the frozen it was dryer than normal

Plausible, but I still think it needed more sauce just for better flavor.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (mostly moony?) with a predicted high of 80 and mostly cloudy for the day. At some point it might rain. Or not. TWPTB are all willy-nilly today. We shall procure provisions late this mornin’ and whilst at the Pubic Sto’ we shall get fried chikin N.O.L.s for today’s main feed. Other than that the usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall prevail.

VanGo have fun with the young’uns!

Now I need more caffeine and feed rumbly tummy. At some point I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Such bother!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Gee, I never took you for a wuss…

When my inlaws built their last house in Ocala 20-some years ago, their back yard shared a fence with a cow farm. When they left last year, their fence abutted a white vinyl privacy fence and the former pasture was a huge housing development.

I had a weirdly exhausting dream that I was back at Purdue and heading for the gym (never went there when I was a student, dunno why I visited Dream Purdue Gym) but I kept getting lost and never did find any familiar buildings. But I walked all over creation searching for hours. I recall seeing a huge body of water, which is wrong, as the Wabash River isn’t all that big as it runs thru town. Anyway, I woke worn out from all the walking! So even tho I slept well, I’m beat!

Told Daughter last night that she’s got one year left of free child care. She was as happy as you might expect. Sucks to be an adult…

It’s supposed to get near 60° today, so I’ll likely take the kids to the playground. So far their mom has no meetings this afternoon, so she shouldn’t be late. Yesterday, it was nearly 6PM when she got to our house - she had to wait for a field trip group to return from Mount Vernon and they were running late. No bus trip today, I hope.

First of the month - Higgs gets her flea and heartworm meds today. Beyond that, nothing special planned. Just another day in this little corner of Paradise.

Happy Wednesday!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 30 degrees and dark outside. The expected high is 46 and the day will be mostly cloudy. Yesterday I had two very short snow flurries and lots of sun breaks. Those north of me and on the Olympic Peninsula had snow.

silenus, I’m very sorry about Havoc.

Work promises to be busy. There are some funding issues that are throwing our statewide meeting plans into disarray, and I need to figure out how we’re going to proceed. When creating a spend plan last year, I added a supplemental request to support paying for our statewide meeting. The plan is hold it in the central part of the state, far enough away from everyone’s office to make scurrying away to work difficult. I was informed yesterday that all supplemental requests are on hold because of budget shortfalls. There is no timeline for when or if they will consider these requests. In the meantime, we’ve already sent out save the dates for the meeting which is supposed to be in May. We have a meeting with the event and conference planning staff today. The SD is adamant we’re having the meeting. I think our base budget might be able to absorb most of the cost, but we’re going to have to make cuts elsewhere. I proposed this to the SD and Deputy last night, but the SD wasn’t overly happy about that. I’m trying to find a solution. Right now, I’m just going to proceed like we are getting the supplemental because I have to give the conference planning people a minimum of 60 days. I can’t just sit on my hands because we’ll run out of venue options and everything costs more in the summer anyway.

I’ve got a lot of other things going on and all those spinning plates are starting to wobble a little too much. I was trying to get rid of a couple of those plates, but it appears I have to keep spinning them.

Metal Mouse, I’ve been enjoying the pics.

FCM, I’m sure your daughter was less than pleased. On the other hand, you need to be able to be free to enjoy your retirement.

I need to schedule Polar for his shots and whatnot. I’ll get that done today too.

Okay, time to finish the coffee, tidy the kitchen and head upstairs to work.

Good morning everyone. 65 F here, and rumblestorms predicted (I can hear them outside the window, getting closer). S’posed to get lotsa storms in the next couple of days, and we’ll get to test out our new auto hail cover. Hope the durn thing works – I’ll let ya’ll know.

Way behind and trying to catch up, so: {{silenus}} - so sorry to hear about your friend (Havoc). Went through this a few weeks ago and it’s rough.

No fair! Stop complaining and hand me the gasoline and the firecrackers, this time it’ll work, just watch. Congrats on the new job, btw.

I swear to Og I read that someone here dunked their phone, but now I can’t find it. Anyway, last time that happened, we put the phone in the washing machine and set it to spin. That centrifuged the water out of it and it worked fine after that. Protip: Be sure your machine doesn’t spray water randomly during the spin cycle – some do.

There’s was a lengthy SDMB discussion of the newer cars’ ignition systems and theft – here. Not sure how relevant or interesting, but the conclusion seems to be that few cars are really secure. My original idea of leaving a Robot Dog in the car at night is probably the only effective deterrent.

Yesterday we finally got the check from the insurance company – for the wreck that happened after Thanksgiving. Finally. I guess this chapter is now over, except for my increased nervousness any time I’m getting tailgated. Which is always, when driving in Texas. I gotta get over this worrying somehow. I want a bumper sticker that says something like: “Get a little closer asshole, my lawyers are bored.”

On to the day… PT for my neck and back (see “wreck” above). It’s getting much better and I’m seeing “back to normal” as an actual possibility. Doctors/insurance/forms/blah/blah/blah. Everyone knows this drill I assume, so will skip details. Trying to get clearance for both travel and resumption of hobbies and fun stuff from all the medical folk. And.. (brace yourself FCM) I need to schedule more repair on our boat. No really! They break sometimes and need maintenance. My next hobby will be standing in the shower while ripping up 100 dollar bills. It would be cheaper and more relaxing.

Gotta go figure out some breakfast. Hope everyone has a good week.

Morning all. Had a touch of constipation yesterday, at least I guess that’s what it is when you really want to go but somebody built a wall down there), but the internal plumbing seems to be working now (I know, TMI, but it is mundane…). Might pick up some Metamucil at the store (Oh My God, I am old!!!).

This is also my first day of not having to go outside and get the newspaper, since they went to all-digital. After so many years I will miss the newsprint, but I guess if the craving gets to much I can pickup the NY Times for $3.

Heading to near 80F today, which is good, but rain and tunder-boomers are expected this evening and nighttime, so if I am going to get anything done it will be early. Otherwise sloth will prevail.

yankers, glad you finally got the insurance settlement; and I loved the bumper sticker idea, I’m sure someone somewhere makes custom stickers.

Taters, Ah, the joys of finance and budgeting; hope it all works out.

FCM, you have the most interesting dreams…I seldom remember mine.

VanGo, have fun saving the Musical!

nellie, that spray sounds more like a torture device than a panacea. Hope you have dried out by now.

OK, need to consider foraging for sustenance and getting back to my vacation picture-sorting, only two more days and I should have it done. Take care all.

Mrs. L.A. just broke her red willow sugar bowl. I think it was the one piece she kept from her family. :frowning:

Woke up to snow pelting down pretty hard, but large, fluffy flakes usually means short duration, and it’s all melting now as the temps go up. A nice cheese omelet and a croissant for breakfast. Gonna be a slow day here at The Home. Management is waiting for the covid cases to resolve before any activities are resumed.

Good thing I leave early for work, because I hit every freaking light on the way in. But a busy day means more hours for me. On the way out, there were a bunch of Canadian Geese on the roof of the plumbing place, with one goose on the other end of the roof. Sort of an avian JPF.

Turns out, she’d bought the red willow sugar bowl when she lived in Hoquiam; so it wasn’t a family heirloom.

She has a blue willow sugar bowl that she got from her grandmother. She said she’d broken it (she said, ‘I always break sugar bowls.’) and wrapped it in paper for six months until she glued it back together. She said she’d be upset if she broke that one (again).

I’ll sneak the red willow out of the trash can and try to glue it back together. Super Glue? I doubt she’ll use it again, but I have to try.
