American Horror Story --- WTF???

10-11. the would-be copycat murderers

What are your thoughts on Storm of the Century and Rose Red? He wrote both of those as scripts rather than books first. I found Rose Red disappointing myself, because it goes from really scary to lame in the final quarter.

I didn’t realize that he wrote those two as scripts first.. Interesting!

I loved Storm of the Century even though I was pulling for good to win over evil in the end.. Was hoping that they could outsmart him!

I agree with you on Rose Red. It had a great storyline in the beginning then it lost me..

No comments on last nights episode? I thought it was quite good with revealing what happened between Constance and the Maid.

I’m starting to wonder if the burned man is real or a ghost? Are all the characters other than the family ghosts too? Seems like there’s only so many times you can die…and have a gazebo built over your grave.

It was helpful to see what happened to the maid. I am thinking that Constance isn’t a ghost, but the others are? The realtor could see Constance when she walked by? I think I caught that right.

Also, what motive does the burned guy have for helping him kill the husbands mistress? Why would a ghost want $1000? I think he is real.

Still cracks me up how the husband( I can never remember his name!) sees the maid as young.. Funny as heck!

Awright, I take back what I said last week - I *loved *last night’s episode.

The last act was so bizarre and absurd, and yet, if you’re Kyle McDermott, finding yourself in that situation, what else are you gonna do? I’m loving the burned face guy. And there was lots of good depraved maid thrills.

Obviously I was wrong - it won’t wrap up in 4 weeks - but it has to be a fixed length story, doesn’t it?

It’s a TV show, not a mini-series, so unless it’s canceled expect a dozen/thirteen or episodes just like every other cable TV show in the US. One presumes that if ratings stay favorable it’ll be picked up for further seasons as well, so no, they probably don’t have a fixed length story in mind. Shows that do (like Harper’s Island) are pretty rare.

The detective visiting about the missing patient definitely did see the maid, he asked Ben how he managed with ‘something like that around’ - but I don’t know if he saw the old creepy maid or the young one!

I really liked the blond 1920’s wife of the original owner, something about her struck me right.

And I hate to say it, but I’m glad burned-man killed the pregnant girlfriend. Talk about a horror story! Stomping through the house yelling for Ben’s wife! This show throws in little bits from other scary movies, and that was a nice little Fatal Attraction homage.

After burying the girlfriend’s body with the maid’s body, then covering it with concrete, Constance said that now, she’ll (the maid) always be stuck in this world. That leads me to believe the girlfriend will be back to haunt the family, too. Seems that whomever is buried somewhere in the house, will keep coming back!!

The mom had sex twice in one day in the first episode, once with her husband and the second time with the man in black suit. Does anyone think she could be pregnant with twins, one good and one evil?

Does anyone think we’re meant to dislike the wife? I can’t tell if it’s just my aversion to the actress or if it’s something deliberate on the part of the director. I get that she’s supposed to be troubled and angry with her husband but I don’t have one iota of sympathy for her. I’ve also never liked Dylan but that kind of works here because I think we’re meant sit back and watch his undoing rather than root for him to survive.

That being said, I don’t thinnk I’ve ever enjoyed a show so much where I had so much contempt for the lead actors. Someone is doing something very right.

He saw the hot one. Guys talk like that about hot chicks, not old women.

If you’re skeptical, remember when he said he’d see himself out, and that he hoped to run across the maid on the way.

Frankly, I’m not sure if we’re supposed to like any of the protagonists. I sure don’t. I’m rooting for the ghosts.

Same here - it’s one of my problems with the show…

Does the maid using laudanum (not in use since the 30’s) imply that the maid’s story with the house dates back to the 30’s?

That can’t be right, because it conflicts with the *young *version of the maid being in the service of Connie (who, even if the boy is a ghost, has the girl with Down’s who seems to have aged naturally since the 1970’s).

I guess the maid used laudanum from the basement from before her time (obviously the abortion doctor era), but that saddens me a little. Ghosts should stay consistent to *their *time.

Me too, me too! What was up with Larry Harvey (burned psychopath)? He was positively giddy. Wanted Ben to read lines with him?!? That was awesome. And I don’t think Ben properly thanked him for that solid. We all need guardian angels (ha!) waiting in the wings with a shovel in case bitches get feisty.

And when the old version of the maid (Conroy) piteously cried out “I don’t want to be here anymore! I’m frightened, and I miss my mother.” My heart broke for her a little.

But Constance (Lange) responds with "You think I want to stay in this world of rot and regret!?! …Every time I find my heart breaking just a sliver for you, I suddenly remember, you made this mess for yourself. And…I also remember every time I see that ghostly eye, that I was and continue to be: a hell of a shot. wink

Woo! ** I cringe at cheeseball acting (cough Bill Paxton) but this campy goodness is so much fun. I love how the rest of the cast is gelling, in spite of or because of Vivian’s (Britton) frosty attitude and Ben’s (McDermott) disengaged, twitchy character.

Just about the only thing I continue to have a problem with is the Idiot Plot of husband and wife saying things in just the right way to continue not realizing that he sees a hotter version of the maid. Seriously, how long is that going to go on?

As long as the plot needs it to. It does help that the two of them are really barely on speaking terms, so they do not have the communication that a normal couple would have to bring this to light much sooner. He can’t just ask “why did you hire a hot maid?” without her assuming that he intends to bang the crap out of her, so he says nothing and they contineue to talk past each other.

AHS is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly this week. Rubber Man has attracted a lot of attention, you’d think he was a leading character even though he only had one scene in three episodes. I foresee lots of earnest discussion on Slate and Salon and such, on the history and use of rubber suits.

Also - the maid said “men see what they want to see” while Kyle was accusing her and trying to fire her. So I’m thinking that all men (except Taint) see her as the young hottie, and all women see her as the older woman.

There’s a cliché of thinking all Asians look alike, but I have serious trouble telling apart women with similar hair color/styles. This has made it someone difficult for me to figure out who anyone on Pan Am is besides Ricci and the French stewardess. In this episode of AHS, I had trouble telling who the new ghost was - was she supposed to be the Doctor’s wife, or the girl having an abortion?

I don’t get why we could see her head wound but no one else noticed.

I liked that this episode addressed a number of plausible reasons why they will have to stay in the murder house.

Oh! I thought he was talking about the patient, since the previous sentence was about her being boring.

Ratings are doing very well so far.

This mystery intrigues me. I’m eager to get at her motivation for various behaviors. It seems she thought drugging the husband would lead to her being free somehow but the girl’s death prevented that. There’s not an obvious connection I can see.

There’s not much of anyone who is all that likable, other than maybe the daughter. But yeah I kind of want to tell the wife to shit or get off the pot.
