American Idol 2/23-25

Best of the night were Lilly, Siobhan, and Crystal, with Michelle and Katelyn close behind.

Going home are Lacey and Ashley.

What means “‘show’” as an adjective, in scare quotes?

I liked Katie. The best three were the last three.

Katie…I thought that was going to be better when she started, got rougher as she went and agree with Simon, thought it was too mature of a song for her.

Katie is best of the night. Better than Bowersox. I still don’t care about her grandma, though.

The judges are completly full of shit with this “too grown up” garbage. Their criticism ahs nothing to do with her performance. She was not pitchy, that’s a lie. Everything they’re saying is lies. I hate when they do this. They have their list of who they want to and who they want to stay, and they pre-script ther responses before the kids even sing (remember, Pauler got caught reading her script too early that time? She was critiquing songs that hadn’t been sung yet).

This show is really kind of rigged…not the voting, that’s probably legit, but the judges critiques are tailored to shape the voting, and they don’t let the reality of the performances get in the way.

Did AI screw the audio up on the singer review for the Paige and Ashley?

Katie was technically good but I just don’t care. She isn’t interesting to me. She’s somebody who thinks music is all about her doing well so she can succeed.

Katie held up 21 instead of 12.

Crystal and Siobhan (who I liked even more in review) winners.

Hailey…nice kid,… please send her home.

I mean Katie put on a show. She had the wink and lusty eyes and the making love to the camera thingy. Which is what the judges had a problem with, I think. When you’re 17, you shouldn’t vamp for the camera.

From her perspective, it was 12.

OK, how old are you? If you happened to be about 19-20 when it came out and were surrounded by college women who found it all so deep and meaningful and that Alanis gave a voice to their hidden life experiences and played it endlessly for its “truth”…well, I think you would feel the same way I do about that particular CD.

Or I’m a poopypants. Could be.

I’m 46 years old. Poopypants.

The music on JLP is catchy but the lyrics are so asinine I’ve never been able to really enjoy it.

Isn’t it ironic?

I liked Lilly, Didi, Siobhan, and Crystal. No one really put themselves out in front IMO, but if I had to pick those who will last awhile, it would be Siobhan and Crystal. Too little material to really judge though.

Aren’t they all?
I don’t like her either, but I think I like Bowersox less. That whole attitude she seems to have that she’s just really too cool and to legit for this show is going to get old fast. Sh thinks she’s already somebody.

The exploitation of her kid is really annoying too. So is the stupid lip stud.

I’m on DVR and Siobahn just went. It started badly and I don’t know what is up with the sound mix but it was my favorite of the night so far.

She’s got an odd distant quality to her personality. She’s got that nerdy/socially awkward thing. Whoever asked if her glass blowing was related to ren faire is on to something. I like that though, because it’s not your Hollywood plastic famewhore thing you usually see too much in the female contestants (in particular) - Ashley Rodriguez being the prime example of this. Gawd, I wish we could vote out six this week and go straight to the finals.

I liked Katelyn more than I thought I would. It’s nice to see the Matt Giraud Memorial Forehead Mole continuing on its Idol journey.

snort

I was sick to death of her friggin’ kid about four weeks ago. I don’t like her or her attitude, either - I think you nailed it - she’s far too artsy and cool for this shit, but she’s Doing It All For Her Kid. Hey, don’t do us any favours, Banana Chiclets. It sounded like she was about to start arguing with Simon et al, too - that could get interesting; Little Miss I’m Too Good For This arguing with the star power on the judging panel.

We really need a good nickname for Bowersox - can we not do anything with such a weird name?

Is Ellen serving any purpose here now?

I liked Siobhan.

ETA: Michelle might be this year’s girl who sings everything technically perfect and just barely missing the spark of genius.
