And giving props to the band! They aren’t that good, but it showed he’s a pro and it sounded sincere, not like a measured “develop my persona” gesture. He just knows as a singer that you shout out to the band.
I realize this is not terribly constructive to the discussion, but I am deeply troubled by the fact that Paula’s upper lip does. not. move. At all.
FWIW, I really like Alison, and thought the softer opening section of “Don’t Speak” was quite good. I feel like the rest of the song was just poorly arranged and could have showcased her “rock” voice better if arranged otherwise.

If the “recap” was recorded during the rehearsals (as I read somewhere), Allison’s sounded better than the live performance.
Anytime a contestant does a song that a previous contestant has already done really well, I end up comparing that version to the other contestant. In this case, Kelly Clarkson did a better job with that song, and she was hoarse when she performed it.
As much as I want to hate him, that would be awesome!
The judges were ridiculous tonight- critiquing Allison after (in my mind) a solid performance almost solely on her outfit? Really? Also, anyone else getting really tired of Kara’s constant insistence to name off artists/songs that the contestant should have done? Gag.
Being an impartial observer, I thought Gokey was decent tonight but I still can’t stand the guy. Bleh.
Adam is almost getting predictable in delivery. Would that song have been anything but manic and high-note-laden? That being said, Kara did make a good point - he’s the star attraction. People are tuning in just to see him - including me.
I agree - my thoughts on that song were that the arrangement needed some work. And really, these people spend large quantities of time with Paula Abdul and they felt a need to discuss Allison’s outfit at such length? Really??
Lots of boring tonight. I liked Adam, I like Kris better every week. That’s my top three - Adam, Allison, Kris. There’s a lot of Anoop-love around here, but I just don’t get it.
I don’t like Adam’s ‘look’, but I sure enjoying him sing. I would love to see him cover some B-52’s.

I couldn’t believe how much I liked Kris Allen’s version of that song - he did it just right. He even had the balls to tackle the “I knows” and make them sound sort of interesting.
Adam was weird as usual, but back to musical theatre.
Lil is going to lose this competition if she can’t pick a song or two.
