American Idol 3/31-4/1

:p:p I was going to say something about this but I was afraid there might actually be a Studio 57 and I’d end up looking like the lunk head. Did we miss the joke or was that just crazy talk?

D’OH!! I forgot about that  She really has a problem with numbers, doesn’t she!! I thought maybe she was being catty, like “Settle on a look, none of this Heinz 57 stuff!” but probably not.

My list, in order from best to worst:

Adam - He’s fabulous. Sell me tickets to his tour right now. Amazing vocalist. Great showman. Although I do agree with Sam Stone that he needs to be careful not to put together a whole album of high notes.

Kris - A really nice surprise. He’s really starting to settle into a groove as a performer. It’s comfortable to hear him now – I don’t worry if he can pull it off, like I did before. I can just sit back and enjoy. And I love that he also plays piano.

Allison - Her sound was a little thick last night. It felt like the song weighed her down. However, she’s a good solid vocalist and I always enjoy her.

Danny - I’m really conflicted about him. I want to hate him because there is this deeply cheesy, goody goody, Christian rock streak in him, which I despise. And because of the whole dead wife thing. And yet… I have to agree with Paula that I was moved by his performance. Argh.

Matt - I like Matt, but last night: ugh! Go back to R&B please.

Lil - She can sing, but she just doesn’t get it musically. She performs like a precocious child. I’m impressed by her pipes, but I want more. More nuance, more dynamic variety, more colors, more… something.

Anoop - Sigh. The kid has some serious vocal talent. But he hasn’t a clue how to make it work on stage. I keep waiting for him to find “it.” He almost found it last week, but this week was a throwback to earlier performances. I probably am placing him higher than he deserves based on this week, but I still have hope for him…

Scott - Sappy performance. Froggy, nasal vocals. He needs to open up that voice more.

Megan - Will somebody please put her out of her misery? Horrible, horrible, horrible. A voice like a cross between Kermit the Frog and a nanny goat. Flat, boring phrasing. Can’t hit pitches to save her life. Please go home. (I wish we could vote against as well as for contestants.)
About Adam:

My partner and I were commenting how the other contestants were talking about what songs they would pick to show what they could do or to please the judges. In contrast, Adam talks about the songs themselves and what he interesting things he can do with them. He also recognized the band and their arrangement. His mind is in a different place, and it shows. He has a kind of maturity or confidence in his performance and artistic choices that many of the others do not. Not that he’s always on the mark. I don’t always like what he does. But he’s definitely in a different category as a performer.

Agreeing with this and the earlier poster who said the beginning was pretty. I thought when she toned it down and sang it straight, her voice was rich and really nice. I understand the rocker/screaming, but just show the quality voice you have.

I can’t stand Megan but I really can’t stand Scott. He just isn’t good.

And Lil trying to follow the judges’ advice and still bombing. Too bad, because I was glad she slowed it down, but that just wasn’t right.

So even YOU were about 8 years behind the times. No wonder you liked Scott’s hair last night.

Adam - Hilarious. Awful, but hilarious. Seriously, how could anyone like this screechy, howling, grating and corny performance???

Kris - Either he’s actually good, or performing right after Adam made him sound good.

Danny - The perfect Idol contestant. Good voice, sings on key and is totally boring.

Megan - Probably the only truly original singer left on the show. Not that it makes her any good.

Allison, Lil - Big ole voices, just not that interesting to listen to.

Scott - Dull, but nailed the piano playing.

Anup - I don’t know what to say. I’m not really familiar with Usher, but this song was totally lost one me.

Oops, I forgot Matt, but doesn’t everybody?

I’m glad someone else noticed this. Lil was painful to listen to.

There are a few people I find mildly entertaining (Megan, Adam, Allison, Kris), and everyone else is just boring. Or vomit-inducing, in the case of Danny Gokey (and, actually Kris’s mustache). If Megan goes home tonight I probably won’t bother watching any more.

I think the addition of a fourth judge makes the show much less interesting. Randy can’t say real words, Paula can’t be coherent, Kara can’t stop talking about “artistry,” and Simon is only right half of the time. I don’t know why they all need to comment after every performance. Why not let the contestants sing longer?

Ok, this is a little late, but…

Things are back to normal and I hate Adam and Danny again. And three even tiers!

Liked:

Allison– Nice. Not sensational, but very good for Idol.

Anoop– This was awesome. Anoop was getting fierce out there.

Megan– I’m in love. I might be the only non-institutionalized person who non-ironically enjoys Megan.

Eh:

Matt– At least this is the first time I wanted to like Matt. Though it may be just too late.

Scott– Totally proficient, horrifically boring. I only didn’t put him in the Yuck category because he sang better than as of late. But really, I think he should go home this week.

Kris– Super-boring performance. More boring than Scott this week, if that’s possible.

Yuck:

Lil– You can choose pretty much any song ever and you choose this turd? Bad singing, too.

Adam– Screechy, schticky, and unentertaining.

Danny– Pitchy, dawg. Just not good.

They’re doing three groups of three tonight…

I think they’ve got a joker in their sleeve. They’ll say April Fool and make everybody move around.

David Cook strikes me as a decent guy. He doesn’t seem to have a big ego.

He was always like that, thoughout last year’s competition…
dedicated alot of his performances to his brother. (the AC on his guitar is for Andrew)
Wasn’t Andrew sick?

S^G

I hate to say it, but last season when he said he does crossword puzzles…he had me. ::swoon::

Megan is on crack tonight
but at least she’s in bottom three

S^G

His brother has brain cancer. Tough story.

Let her go home, please, please, please…

judging by the other two with her, I think it’s safe to say Meg’s gone

Dialidol has Megan going home.

I can’t believe Allison had to sit in the bottom three once, let alone twice. I don’t get the non-love.

Cook was good. Not the kind of song I’d pay money for but I guess I’m not the target audiece for that. He does seem like a humble guy.
