Riddle me this, Batman: Is anybody besides Melinda aware that there are Latin artists who are not Gloria Estefan or Carlos Santana? Hell, Linda Ronstadt sang in Spanish; does she qualify, too? These songs SUCK ASS in a million kinds of ways. And I like Gloria Estefan and Santana! Hello? “Here We Are”? “Oye Como Va”? Anyone? Bueller?
Wow. I actually think Haley is the best of the night so far. She’s the first one to bring any energy. Randy is on crack. She was way better than Chris.
Those were some pretty uncalled for remarks by Simon. It’s obvious the show wants her out for some reason because she wasn’t bad tonight.
Simon is also wrong that her voice is any worse than anybody else. She’s better than Phil, Sanjaya and Chris, to name a few.
A hat is always a good idea Phil. And poor Phil, the guitarist has to play as good as Carlos and he isn’t doing it. Still, Phil was the best so far. Damning with faint praise.
Haley sang the song as well as I think she could (vocally she is only marginally better than Sanjaya). She is a terribly nice girl but she is way out of her league with that song and it didn’t go over well. I’m not sure she’ll survive this week which is a shame because I do so enjoy looking at her.
Is it just me or can Phil hit nothing except the big notes? He should just yell the entire song because when he turns down the volume it’s over for him.
Ouch. Haley and Phil, IMHO, have turned in the best performances so far tonight. They put some energy into their songs, and actually held my attention. Time to pour some Bailey’s over my ice cream…
This is killing me because I love Latin music. It’s the Puerto Rican in me. These guys are killing it! No one will want to hear any Latin music after they watch this.
Ditto on that. Come on, would it have killed the contestants to think outside the whitebread box and think of something both Latin and contemporary? A first baby step would have been watching the Latin Grammy Awards to learn what’s actually playing on Top 40 radio south of the border (or even south of the Mason-Dixon line).
Aaack! And now Jordin is doing Gloria Estefan too! I have nothing against the lady, but please, enough is enough por favor!
Oh, Jordin, that outfit! Horrid, wretched, miserable! You’re cute, but you look so lumpy! And normally I like her, but to trot out one of Simon’s old chestnuts, tonight she sounds like she’s singing on a cruise ship. I can actually picture this version of this song in a cruise ship commercial. (Why not? They used Iggy & the Stooges.)
Edited to add: No joke, I am editing my iPod right now to put Gloria & Santana in a separate playlist. I can’t listen to them for about a week.
And Blake is doing Marc Anthony? Shoot me now. Hate this slimy little song. But, hey! Hoooooooooooorns!
Jordin is good. Not spectacular but better than anyone else has been so far. This theme is killing them. Latino music isn’t really singers’s music. It’s more instrumental and dance oriented. Not much in the way of glory notes or sustained vocal melodies.
I have to give her credit. I think she really works hard every week, never coasts and never gets lazy. If Melinda and Lakisha aren’t careful, Jordin might end up stealing this from them.
