Blake is pretty good. He’s doing about as well as could be expected for this theme. The dancing wasn’t bad. I think he managed to survive the theme without sucking. That was really pretty decent.
Oh please! Oh please! Maybe he’ll do that thing she does where she lifts her leg over her head. Or he could wear a belly dancing outfit like Jeannie!
Blake was the best so far. I was hopeful that his beatboxing might reflect some bit of rhythmic ability that seemed to be lacking in so many of the other runny mushy performances. To be honest, even he was a bit too runny for me, but not bad.
Blake showed he could sing low-key this week. I liked it. And, on a totally irrelevant note, this is the first time I’ve noticed his right arm is tattooed. Have I not been observant or has he been mostly sticking to long-sleeved shirts? And could anyone point me to a better picture out of, um, ethnographic curiosity, yeah, that’s it.
Sanjaya is singing in Spanish! And a real Spanish song too. I declare him King of Latin Night!
Aw…that was nice. Sandy didn’t suck. He was in key the whole time. He sang in Spanish. His hair even looked pretty normal.
Maybe he should stick to this understated crooning thing. He wasn’t embarrassing.
OK, pardon my French, but: Is this fucking opposite land, or what the fuck? Sanjaya was actually good. And he sang an actual “Latin” song. I … I’d stick my head in the oven, but it’s electric anyway.
This theme was complete ASS and I hope they never do it again. Ever.
My jaw is still on the living room floor from where it dropped when Sanjaya began singing. That. Was. Good. That boy just owned Latin night. I think I’ll remain stunned for a while now.
I only saw the last two performances, and now I am watching the recap. Latin music? More like Gloria Estefan and Santana… half the songs where done by them…
It is funny to watch them, and Sanjaya just looks creepy.
So many better Spanglish songs to play…
I gotta say, the one who impressed me the most tonight was J-Lo. Useful, mature, and seasoned advice. I agreed with everything she said, and I thought she was second only to Lulu among this year’s mentors. I had obviously misjudged her.
Heh … that’s like being “NL East Champion” or Employee of the Month at your Dad’s store.
That was a terrible night. JLo actually gave good advice, but nobody was able to follow it. You either got it or you don’t.
Blake was the best this evening, and I want to add another vote for Sanjaya who was actually surprisingly right on.
Haven’t looked at the thread yet, but here are my notes as I watched:
Melinda - I’m not feeling any emotion, it’s very clinical. Her hair looks much better this week–suits her body type better (she almost has a neck).
Lakisha - her back fat jiggling over the top of that dress is distracting in a bad way. She’s doing the song justice though, and I agree with Randy that she looked like she was having fun; this is probably my favorite performance of hers so far.
Chris - starting off rough, kiddo. I just realized one of the things I don’t like about him: his vibratto sucks. It’s like he is holding a vibrator to his neck while singing, kind of like a little kid making machine gun noises, not that lovely wavering quality that a really nice vibratto can have. Ok the song got a little better toward the end but mostly I hated it.
Haley - she sounded out of breath a few times and like she was having a really hard time keeping up with the speed of the song. Didn’t like it, but she still has nice legs. Don’t think the whore look works for her, though–not the makeup, not the slut shorts (and wtf, they were bunchy! bunchy??), not the ginormous earrings, not the semi-seethru shirt with the sequined bustier underneath…
Phil - I still don’t like the nasal quality of his voice. It only works when he sings Police songs. He also seems so hesitant, like he’s seriously holding back. It’s bland. His runs sucked. I found it weird how he would suddenly shout certain lines of the song… it didn’t fit in.
Jordin - is she struggling with the low notes or is it just me? And did she forget the words? I’m not liking this at all which makes me scared because she is my favorite in the competition by far. Ok it’s getting a little better near the end but still seems kind of weird like she’s uncertain of herself which makes the listener feel nervous as well. Ok the judges seemed ok with it so maybe it wasn’t as bad as I felt like it was, so hopefully she’s safe.
Blake - I don’t have any complaints about his performance (except the sweaty pit stain) but it’s not completely blowing me away either. Probably my favorite of the night so far though. Wow, I totally agreed with the judges on that one.
Sanjaya - did he actually pick a song that suits his voice? Oh my god I’m going to have a heart attack. He’s looking ridiculous with the facial hair though, and I hate his smug flirty glances at the camera. He’s not missing all the notes like usual, so I’m not hating him like I usually do, but I can’t say that I’d listen to the song again on purpose.
Here are my notes as I took them:
Melinda-Why is she wearing a Hefty Bag? Still boring, but didn’t dislike it for once…sounded like a James Bond Theme…nothing exiting AGAIN…she is a bore
Lakisha-Horrible…can’t imagine a worse performance tonight…nasal as hell.
Chris R- Good god… I think I dislike him more than the first two
Haley-Finally!! A good performance…haley should sing nude next week.
Phil-I thought his first hat was stupid…the second one was even worse.I can’t decide who sucks more,Melinda,Lakisha,Chris or Phil.
Jordin-Ugh…lifeless…ugh ugh ugh.
Blake-Phew…finally another good song
Sanjaya-Look Out…he might win this damn thing
Best of the night…tough call…Blake,Haley or Sanjaya?
Melinda a distant 4th.
The rest of em should be worried.
Is Latin music really difficult to sing? Why did the contestants suck SO bad?
I couldn’t agree more. I’ve never been a big fan of hers, but she’s always struck me as someone straight up, even when the paparazzi followed her every move. I’m glad she’s no longer tabloid fodder.
Now then. I think “lackluster” should be the adjective of the evening. Blake was the only one who came close to what J-Lo was saying about “finding the soul of the song” (I know I’m paraphrasing). The others, save perhaps Sanjaya, sounded like they were in a huge karaoke contest.
Dear Chris R.,
You are not Rob Thomas. Don’t even try.
Dear Haley,
I agree with Simon competely. You are out of your league, you know it, so you flaunt your best asset.
Dear LaKisha and Jordin,
You guys tried. Really tried. I give you props for that. You both had fun with your performances, and it showed.
Dear Phil,
I don’t know what to say. I really don’t shakes head
Dear Sanjaya,
Please shave off your facial hair. There’s something creepy about it. And you surprised me. Not the best performance, perhaps not your best performance, but I think you pleasantly shocked a lot of people.
Dear Melinda,
I didn’t see your performance; therefore, I cannot comment.
Melinda - Good vocals, still boring
Lakisha - I thought it was better than Melinda’s but still lacking. I have nothing against big girls, I am sort of a big little girl, but when your back fat looks like jiggly boobs you need to not wear dresses like that. I actually like Lakisha but I have noticed that she doesn’t ever look like she’s having fun because she doesn’t smile.
Chris R - That was hot … a hot mess! I could not believe they didn’t jump all over him for that. He was out of tune. It was just awful. Why are they pimping him so much? Ugh!
Haley - Simon called that one on the clothing. I don’t think Haley has a terrible voice, but she isn’t really good enough to win this and she really isn’t good enough to stay in longer than several other people.
Phil - He has a nice voice in parts, but he’s dull. Except when he takes off his hat, then he’s shiny. Did he woo! again?
Jordin - Great vocals but something about the performance was just off.
Blake - Loved him
Sanjaya - He’ll be safe again, but I found his attempt to be smoldering and sexy with the lip fuzz a little unsettling. Still he’s at least entertaining, which is more than I can say for Chris R.
Who I think should leave? Chris R.
Who will leave? Probably Haley or Phil.
[ol][li]Blake[/li][li]Phil[/li][li]LaKisha[/li][li]Sanjaya ?!?!?!?[/li][li]Melinda[/li][li]Jordin[/li][li]Chris[/li][li]Snacking on an entire florescent light bulb[/li][li]Haley[/li][/ol]
Ummm…is the theme Latin Week or Opposite Week? Some mightily strange things afoot this week.
[ul][li]Full disclosure: This week was more or less lost on me. With a small handful of exceptions, I find this flavor of music boring as hell.[/li][li]The other day my wife made a comment about how bad Sanjaya is. That got me thinking – I liked him during the auditions, so what the hell happened? Where did the decent singer go? Looks like he decided to trot Good Sanjaya back out for a cameo this week…that was the perfect setup for him.[/li][li]Careful there Jordin – your Rasmusen is showing. I like Jordin more and more all the time, and had really high hopes for her this week, but I don’t know what the hell was up with her voice. Really weak and bleaty this time around…shame. [/li][li]Blake gets the top spot for me this week, but it’s more of a testament to other’s doing poorly than him doing great. His was simply the best of a meh bunch (see my first comment).[/li][li]This is two weeks in a row Simon calls it like he sees it and (in different words) calls Haley a no-talent whorebag. At least this time she was smart enough not to try and deny it. How much do I hate this simpering, tone-deaf gutterskank? Enough that I’m actually splitting my time between typing this post and voting for Chris just to help ensure you get the boot you so richly deserve. Of course, the fact that she’s forcing me to vote for him make me hate her even more. Haley, you’re carpet fluff – please just get the fuck off my television.[/li][li]LaKisha and Melinda, you’re both amazingly talented. And I’m caring less and less every week.[/li][/ul]
It’s not on here yet. Crap, I don’t care much for J Lo. Can I bear it?
So, if Chris stays I will have you to blame.
