Well, good. That gives me hope for some of the other non-winners that I liked. I don’t listen to a lot of radio so I’ve missed who’s getting airplay, apparently. I’m happy for Chris and Elliot, wonder if John Stewart ever put out that croony standards album we were all presuming he would, hmm.
Slight hijack.
I saw Elliott Yamin’s new video - he has a mop of curly hair and a full set of new shiny straight teeth. I didn’t even recognize him.
I think she’s really pretty and has a great attitude. Of course I’m not a teen.
Wow, that must have took a team of the best and miners and carpenters in the world! They should make a movie about that dental transformation staring Bruce Willis and Ben Afflack.
Whoa- they’re too perfect. Sort of horsey, actually. Like the flat-chested girl who gets double-D implants, I think he went a little too far.
I don’t think I want to hear Jon Stewart crooning to me (I’m happy just to have him host the Daily Show), but John Stevens did do an album a couple of years ago.
D’oh! :smack:
Guess who watches more Daily Show than Idol?
I commented on this several times. I thought her advice was generally both musically sophisticated and oriented around a clear understanding that this show is about the performance.
It was mentioned a few months ago that a dentist from California gave Elliott several thousand dollars’ worth of free dental work. Elliott Yamin Gets a Dental Makeover
He also has a girlfriend who’s a model. ![]()
A quote from another article:
I can’t say that I disagree with the rest of you. I thought Lakisha did better than she was given credit for. After Sanjaya sang, I commented, “That was kind of pretty.” Good for him, the little screwball.
I agree that Haley needs to go next, for no other reason than to spare her the Simon treatment each week. What he says is true (that the other girls are far better vocalists) but dismissing her because she’s so beautiful is hardly fair.
I think Blake has a good shot at winning. He’s a natural performer and seems so comfortable in his own skin. I think Lakisha and Melinda are both very talented, but neither strike me as being pop idols.
My Prediction: Phil, Haley and Chris in the bottom 3. Haley goes home.
Checking in late. I thought I was over AI this year, but like the line in GIII, (paraphrased) they just keep pulling me back.
Overall
-
Blake – He seems to be able to do it all. Good-looking. He’s the anti Taylor.
-
Chris – Not quite as good as Blake, but also good-looking and “contemporary.”
-
Lakisha – Has the voice. And that attitude rules! Also, riding the Jennifer Hudson Oscar bandwagon doesn’t hurt either.
-
Sanjaya – Weird, but some weeks, like last night, not half bad. The interest/hate for him is enough to keep this mostly bland group watchable.
-
Melinda – Great voice/singer. Maybe top four, but she’s a lounge singer or backup. Not a star.
-
Haley – Playboy is going to call when she is voted off. I could see her in a Vegas lounge earning a decent living.
-
Jordan – nice voice, nice person, but…
-
Phil – good voice, seems like a good guy, but his time is up.
Someone help me, please. I can’t quite put my finger on why I have such a visceral hatred of Lakisha. I’ve narrowed it down to any, or all, or a combination, of the following, but I really feel like I’m still missing something:
-
She never, ever listens to the mentors. Indeed, she was downright rude with Tony Bennett.
-
She does NOT know how to dress. I’m not saying she should come out in a muumuu, but for god’s sake- I keeping thinking “She’s going to pop out of that dress. She’s going to pop out of that dress. Any minute now.” It’s more distracting than Phil’s head, which is saying a lot. Last night’s dress was a travesty.
-
So she’s a single mom. Who has her kid right now? Who will take care of her kid during the tour? Aren’t there more simple, faster ways of making a better life for you and your daughter than parading your size-ZZZ mammaries on TV every week?
-
The lisp. Ugh, the LISP. Melinda managed to fix up her teeth- can’t you do something about that lisp-causing gap??
-
She doesn’t appear to respect the judges or the audience.
-
She sounds the same week after week- she’s a churchy-type power-singer.
-
I want her to stop eye-fucking the camera.
Looking at the list, a lot of it is purely superficial, which makes me wonder if there’s something I’m missing. It just feels… off.
Any thoughts?
I dug her first audition, but since she lives in my state they had some interview on our local news that completely soured me on her. She was doing shout-outs to a seemingly endless list of homies, confidently stating she wasn’t nervous since she knew her hometown of Detroit wouldn’t let her down (She lives in Flint, an hour away, and was born in Maryland, ugh.) and cracking about all the hairstyles she wouldn’t have to pay for.
She seems to at least be smart enough to try and keep that aspect of her personality toned down, 2 inch talons notwithstanding, but in doing so she winds up coming off stiffly; lacking in personality and/or appearing stupid and utterly unable to carry even the simplest of conversations. I really don’t think she’s that paralyzed by nerves or lacking in conversational ability, she’s just so busy trying to suppress herself that she doesn’t have it in her to be charming.
I’ve never noticed her eye-fucking the camera. She always comes across as a bit uncomfortable to me because she’s really out of her element. I just now saw her on Extra saying she has stage fright, I’m not surprised.
As for the single mom thing, other contestants have been single mothers, at least Lakisha isn’t trotting hers out every week to show the fans how much she needs the opportunity coughNikkiMcKibbinFantasiacough
Someone refresh my memory - what did she tell him? And what was J-Lo’s advice to her this week? I keep stepping out of the room and missing important stuff!
I would like to borrow a few lines to bitch about two things, very lightly:
-
Simon needs to consider how he feels about Latin music. The fact that he felt pretty much everyone sucked (relatively) would certainly make me ask myself: maybes it’s the songs? And I think it was. The songs sucked. But I really dislike most “latin” music, so maybe it’s my bias.
-
Excuse me… but wasn’t it Simon, Randy and Paul who decided Sanjaya should make the top 24 out of multi thousands then multi hundreds of others? No, he has not shown himself to be of the calibre of the rest, but he’s not nearly as bad as many others that have been in the top 12 over 6 years. Of the…is it 60, not including this season?..previous top 12, I’d say he falls in the middle of the pack. Hell, the first few years were pathetic! The fact that they made it past the first year at all is amazing, and mostly I think it’s a tribute to Kelly Clarkson, who is genuinely talented. Her competition was not, however.
So give Sanjaya a freakin’ break…the kid has unbelievable confidence. Good for him. And I actually liked his performance probably better than just about anyone’s last night! So there!
Gaah, not Bailamos… it doesn’t sound soo bad… but I prefer it with sweaty sexy Enrique Iglesias saying it in a very sexy voice…
I thought the previous night’s star guest was supposed to perform the next day, why is J. Lo not singing, and they have Akon instead?
Yay for the return of the group sing!!
Apologies to everyone who hates these, but it’s my favorite part of results night.
Who the heck is Akon (no, I have no idea how to spell it) and why’s he singing instead of Jennifer Lopez?!
WTF was that performance? Was he making it up as he went along? The freaky-hair guy randomly shouting “hey” and so on was distracting and seemed out of place.
