American Idol 4/10-4/11

Someone refresh my memory - what did she tell him? And what was J-Lo’s advice to her this week? I keep stepping out of the room and missing important stuff!
[/QUOTE]
Tony Bennett told her, basically, to stick to the song (“Stormy Weather”) as written and not “muck it up” with unnecessary melismas and glory notes; he told her outright not to sing the line “… ain’t no sunshine when he’s gone” at the end of her song, but she did anyway. She also blew off Lulu, by singing “Diamonds Are Forever” instead of that other song, and she absolutely did not listen to Jennifer Lopez, because she both pronounced and sang “Conga” like the gringiest gringa who ever gringed, and I include myself in that category. (I don’t remember what advice Gwen Stefani had for LaKisha, but I’m pretty sure it was ignored, too.)

The music video was better than previous ones, but the clip they chose of Phil seemed to be of him singing a different part of the song–his mouth had nothing to do with the lyrics we were hearing.

I would like to borrow a few lines to bitch about two things, very lightly:

  1. Simon needs to consider how he feels about Latin music. The fact that he felt pretty much everyone sucked (relatively) would certainly make me ask myself: maybes it’s the songs? And I think it was. The songs sucked. But I really dislike most “latin” music, so maybe it’s my bias.

  2. Excuse me… but wasn’t it Simon, Randy and Paul who decided Sanjaya should make the top 24 out of multi thousands then multi hundreds of others? No, he has not shown himself to be of the calibre of the rest, but he’s not nearly as bad as many others that have been in the top 12 over 6 years. Of the…is it 60, not including this season?..previous top 12, I’d say he falls in the middle of the pack. Hell, the first few years were pathetic! The fact that they made it past the first year at all is amazing, and mostly I think it’s a tribute to Kelly Clarkson, who is genuinely talented. Her competition was not, however.

So give Sanjaya a freakin’ break…the kid has unbelievable confidence. Good for him. And I actually liked his performance probably better than just about anyone’s last night! So there!

I think people have been giving Sanjaya a break, especially this week. I always thought he had potential to become a better entertainer but I thought it would take a few years of experience. He’s doing it now and it’s great. I don’t think he should win but I don’t think it would ruin the show if he did and that is the part that makes me a little giddy. Stoopid Idol Haters are helping the show!
By the way, I think Tamyra Grey was the only other major talent in the first season, I did expect to see more from her since but I think she decided to go into acting. I remember seeing her on a few TV shows. Still I agree with your assesment on the other contestants, although I think Season 3 was the worst of the bunch up to and including the winner.

Well the bottom three is no huge surprise.

I can’t see it because I’m TiVo’ing two other shows at the same time. Someone please spoil me, in the appropriate boxes! Or not, depending on how you feel. Kthxbye.

Who goes home???

Please let Phil be the one to go. Chris would be fine as well. Haley is actually the best performer in the bottom three plus I like ogling her legs every week.

I guess I kind of spoiled it already but Phil, Haley and Chris are bottom three.

Aaaaand…dickweed Chris is safe.

Crap. I hope its not Haley going home. Phil is so much more deserving.

Nah, s’alright.

Aaah, there she is, singing…

Who is Sanjaya kidding about wanting J-Lo’s number? I think he’d rather call Mark Anthony.

Oh gross did Sanjaya just indirectly hit on JLo? EWWW

(um… Jennifer is wearing many, many bracelets. Almost surprised she can lift her arm. That is all.)

Ahh, geez, J-Lo just did the “C’mon!” thing.

Well, it’s not like she hasn’t dated every third guy in America.

She hasn’t dated me. :frowning:

Well, then, you’re one of the other two guys. And she’s still young: there is always hope.

Haley is gone. Phil stays.

Aw, that’s too bad. Haley got shafted. There’s at least three people who suck more than her.

Oh well, Phil is living on borrowed time.
