American Idol Feb 27-Mar 1

I wonder if Lakisha’s natural talent will hinder her. Not now when there are still quite a few contestants who suck, but later when only the favorites are left. People will be expecting her to knock it out of the park every single time just because we all know she can.

Melinda also has that horrible plastic hair that I HATE. This is what I expected Lakisha to do with Midnight Train to Georgia. She didn’t end it with a high note but she kicked Funny Little Valentine ass.

Simon needs to stop telling Melinda how much he loves her humility or she’s going o lose it.

Ayeup. Like I said last week-- how can someone stay humble if people keep telling them how humble they are?

Wooo. Antonella is next. Maybe she’ll flash some cooter.

I think Sabrina has a pretty strong voice as well (as I recall from last week), but we’ll see I guess.

I hate the song Melinda sang but she sang it well, that’s for sure.

Exactly what I was thinking! Though the arrangement was a touch old-fashioned for my taste…

And America, on behalf of my province, I apologize in advance for the next number: Antonella doing Celine Dion.

Antonella

Poor girl is going to get clobbered by the judges.

Celine is always a bad choice anyway, but especially if you don’t have the chops.

Antonella both sucks AND blows!

She was better than last week, I’ll give her that. And that’s about it.

Oh lord, with this performance, I think we’ll need to get the whole province to write up a formal apology. (And New Jersey, we expect you to be hanging your head in shame as well.)

Antonella was awful, and she didn’t help herself by mouthing off to Simon about Jennifer Hudson. I guess she wasn’t listening to what he said to Melinda about precocious monsters with no talent. I have no doubt that Randy and Simon were instructed to bash her and get her off the show ASAP.

Tip to Antonella:

When responding to the judges’ criticism, don’t remind us of someone else who sang far better than you and still got booted.

We’re supposed to be whooped by a snowstorm this Friday, is that enough castigation?

Antonella’s performance would certainly have a unique graph: flat flat flat flat flat SHAAAARP flat.

I don’t really recall her performance from last week but I can’t imagine it being better than much of anything? When you sing a song by an artist with a voice that powerful (be it Whitney, Celine, Mariah, etc.) you really have nowhere to go but down unless you are legitimately that good or at the very least way different.

What would be the point of a judge plot? She’s sucking quite badly enough on her own.

Okay Jordan Sparks, a little tip for the future. Stay away from the low octaves - either that or work on them because you hit the high notes just fine but the low octaves are trouble for you.

Not bad though.

Ryan’s crack about Sanjaya: It’s funny cuz it’s TRUE.

Oh Jordin, no! Your lower register is sucking mightily and, is this a Disney song? I don’t know that it is but it sure sounds like a horrible, treacley Disney song. And this is coming from a person who loves top 40.
Good thing Jersey Girl and the other girl whose name starts with ‘a’ and I’m already forgetting were so much more terrible.

Re: Jordin – Does anyone look good in a dress that length?

Awww…could her dad tearing up be any cuter?

I admit I’ve got a soft spot for Disney songs, but I believe this one (Reflection from Mulan) in particular has trancended the movie and become an interesting song in its own right. Jordin’s performance wasn’t perfect, but I enjoyed it very much.

Agreed on the low beginning.

About the song – I have to laugh, because in my head I kept hearing it segue into “Inside Your Heaven” (dreadful treacly Idol single of Carrie/Bo era), which I had no clue actually remained in my head.

The “my parents believed in me when I didn’t” backstory is much more engaging than “my parents hate me and think I stink” backstory.

Stephanie isn’t bad but I think we can add Beyonce to the list of singers you shouldn’t try to sing on AI for right now.
