American Idol Mar 20/21

I just figured out what’s weird about Blake! He has no lips!!!

Melinda did a lovely performance, but I actually preferred Lakisha’s tonight. Her sultry act won me over.

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s show. I even enjoyed the bad performances. Except for Chris R. I didn’t like one little bit of his.

I think the botttom three are gonna be Chris R,Gina and Lakisha.

Thank God.

Did Ryan just dance and sing (after Blake)? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little :X

I think Lakisha’s interpretation was better than Melinda’s…

And Phil now sounds weird… And Sanjaya’s singing is not as good, but definitely entertaining.

The women, overall, seem to be much better than the guys.

I think I’d actually give Blake the top spot tonight. He didn’t have the best pure vocal but I think I enjoyed his performance the most.

I’d put Jordin second and Melinda third. I’m only dropping Melinda because I think she makes dull song choices. I wish she’d sing something somebody’s heard before.

Bottom three: Chris R, Haley, Stacey.

I have no idea who’s going, but I wouldn’t mind if Haley stayed just for the booty factor.

Overall review of the night: far better than last week.

Question for the music knowledgeable: were all of those actually by British artists? (I’m looking at you Tobacco Road, you sound like Southern rock to me.)

“Tobacco road” was a hit for a Brit pop band called Nashville Teens (who weren’t really from nashville and weren’t really teens), but it was written by an American country singer named John D. Loudermilk.

This is the first time I’ve done a full ranking. Here we go!

  1. Jordin
  2. LaKisha
  3. Melinda
  4. Blake
  5. Gina
  6. Stephanie
  7. Chris R
  8. Sanjaya
  9. Phil
  10. Chris S
  11. Haley

Oh, good. I thought that I heard something about Nashville in there, but it seemed like a little too blatant a violation of the theme for me to have heard correctly.

Jordin just blew my mind. Um, seeing her stand next to Ryan… just…how…tall…is she???

Blake, Jordin, and Lakisha were my favorites. I agree with Risha, this week was an overall strong one compared with last week.

Sanjaya is off pitch a lot… but he is having fun. The crying girl made the most hideous face I’ve ever seen a human make, I think, in that first shot of her crying. Good GOD. It was like her chin and lower lip vanished into her neck and did this horrid thing…

It was good to see Sanjaya bust it out though. He has always annoyed me in the past.

Gina sounds like she’s scared/nervous or something… her voice is doing this weird shaky thing… wtf? GINA what happened?? I like her usually.

The Rankings:[ol]

[li]Jordin blew the fucking roof off with that one. First time we’ve seen serious competition for Melinda. And Simon? Feeling depressed after hearing a song like that means she performed it correctly![/li][li]In retrospect, I’m a little surprised at my list. I think I may have overrated Chris S. and Phil a little. Thing is, I can’t see anyone I have ranked under them that did any better.[/li][li]Someone needed to more properly define “British Invasion” for the producers.[/li][li]Gina, I like you…I just wish you were a better singer. Ah well…[/li][li]Not one, but two, count 'em, two songs that more viewers know because of a David Lee Roth performance than the original.[/li][li]If Blake had speeded that song up just a notch, he’d have gotten a much higher ranking from me. Of course, it would’ve helped if he didn’t give his worst vocal performance ever each time he sang the title line.[/li][li]Stephanie, you’re a gonner. Maybe not this week (please, in the name of all that is good and right, not before Sanjaya), but before too long. You just don’t have the chops to make it vocally, and you don’t have your own style or hook to give people something to latch on to. [/li][li]Oh, Sanjaya…have I ever mentioned how much I fucking hate you and your no-talent guts? Anyone remember that guy who made it to the Hollywood round last year, even though his audition was a total goof? Randy and Paula let him through, and then in Hollywood he did this manic, screaming, jumping version of Bat Out Of Hell that was just brutal to the ears? That guy could outsing Sanjaya any day of the week.[/li]BTW, what was with Little Weepy Girl? Make-A-Wish Foundation thing or something?[/ul]

I love Gina, I could totally see buying her music, but…she’s trying to hard, she’s getting all nervous and shouty.

Still one of my favorites, Jordin being the other, and I hope she gets it under control.

I don’t like Melinda. I just… can’t.

Melinda was still the undisputed standout this week in my view.

I’m not going to do a complete ranking, but I will guess four candidates for the bottom three:

Chris R.
Chris S.
Haley
Gina
