BeatBoxBoy had just mixed it up with Doug E. Fresh, and had already blown his wad.
I taped it so I could watch LOST, so will see the remainder tomorrow.
Hated Gwen Stefani’s outfit; never cared for her voice.
Did not like the arrangement for “heard it through the Grapevine.”
I liked the goofy awards and I really liked Tony Bennett.
I was playing Inspector Parker in the corner of the room while Michaela watched the show (we already knew the outcome, of course, thanks to the SDMB and the results that came up when we did a Yahoo! news search on the phrase “Jordin Sparks Wins American Idol”).
I felt very bad for Tony Bennett. Then I felt even worse for Bette Midler.
The finals show this year was pants. I don’t like Bette Midler, but I thought she could sing. Not tonight!
Recapping the season’s weirdos is lazy and just proves they needed filler. I did not need to see the big Black lady in her Big Bird outfit rubbing her belly (who actually had time to read a long-ass haiku) nor did I need to see the bushbaby guy, whom Ryan humiliated on national TV. Nice!
Studdard and Sparks duetting was very good, though.
Wonder what Blake whispered to Jordin right before the announcement.
Stands up, brushes off seat of pants, stretches
Well, that’s that. Same time, same place, next season?
When Bird Suit said “I’m a poem writer,” Seacrest says, “yeah, they call that a poet.”
Pointing at laughing at the freaks is all right in the audition atmosphere, but I really didn’t see the need to bring them out again.
But, that was a pretty funny line from Seacrest.
Did anyone catch GMA this morning. They interviewed Simon Cowell, and he was actually quite lucid about the show. He mentioned that he told the producered he would ask for his resignation if Sanjaya won…and that he was deeply displeased with Melinda not winning. More so than in past years with other contestants. He mentioned Daughtry and his unbelievable sales…then Simon sort of snidely said just wait to see Melinda in a year.
I don’t see Melinda outselling Daughtry.
Rock still sells in this country.
I’m not saying she’s not better (she is), but I’ll be surprised if she outsells him.
I’m not bummed about missing the finale, except for the Joe Perry part (I’ll admit it. I’ve been in love with him since I was 12). I switched over from Lost for a minute and saw him with a brunette but her back was to the camera. Sounded like Kelly Clarkson. Was it? If so, I’m going to have to see if I can find it online somewhere.
It was Kelly Clarkson. . .and Kelly Clarkson’s got BACK!
Admittedly Joe Perry overshadowed Sanjaya when he was playing with him. Sanjaya was belting out something like a baffoon, and the only memorable thing was Joe Perry’s guitar playing.
That was really disappointing. It was like they copied last year’s results show but secretly replaced all the good people with crap.
Well, I’m glad Jordin won. She’s the sound of today (along with about a million other people who’ll dull down the music of the decade). She does what she does very well.
I agree with Simon, though…wait a year and see what Melinda is doing. There are plenty of people who like the music she does. I think she’ll do fine.
I have to admit, that was a very entertaining show, except for Bette Midler. Kelly Clarkson is still the best singer and performer of any Idol, winner or loser. I like the new song a lot.
Blake’s beatboxing duet with Doug E. Fresh was the highlight for me. I loved “The Show” when I was 14, so that was a real treat! Blake even out-beatboxed Doug E. Fresh! I was really impressed.
All I remember from last year’s finale was me, standing in the middle of my living room, rocking my colicky 2 month old in my arms for 2 hours (she screamed louder when I sat down). So I *saw * the show, I just didn’t *hear * the show. I noticed that Prince was there and I was disappointed that I couldn’t hear him.
So this year, I wouldn’t even let my husband run the dishwasher after 8:00 because I didn’t want to miss anything.
Thanks! I’ll have to find it later and watch it. After recently re-watching the first season of American Idol (: Rewind), I’ve become fascinated by Kelly Clarkson. She really has an amazing voice, and I’ve come to believe that she’s probably the best singer the show has ever had. JMO of course (and Nutty Bunny agrees, I see!).
You think.
I think the most memorable thing was that a guy with one of the biggest set of balls in rock & roll was sincerely playing along with a guy who gave the world a text book example of what happens when you remove balls from rock.
We had (A) Sanjaya singing to (B) the crying girl in front of (C) the bird suit with (D) Joe Perry wailing in the background.
It really was a perfect storm of absurdity. And I don’t believe for a second that “surreality”, if you will, was lost on the producers.
Seriously. I never realized what a bootay she has; that sucker rivals J-Lo’s.
The Sanjaya mess was just insane. It was about as bad as that crazy yellow woman- why to they indulge these nimrods?
Blake & Doug E. Fresh was pretty cool. I’ve never been a huge fan of beat boxing, but I have to admit it sounded great.
Because for about four weeks Sanjaya’s improbable run – pushed by the dialing fingers of millions of tween girls – was the biggest news coming out of the show.
Have no doubt that in addition to the records of Jordin, Blake and Melinda that Sony will release, there’ll be a slickly produced CD of Sanjaya softly crooning out in a few months for crying girl and her compatriots to blubber over. I don’t expect that his career will go anywhere (unlike the top three, who have great potential in their genres, if nothing else), but there’s a quick buck to be made on the boy, and yes that buck will be made.
The show seems to get a couple different kinds of viewers.
There are people who take it as a serious singing competition designed to find the next best thing in America. I guess these people get upset when Melinda and Daughtry get voted off, and maybe when Bird Suit and Sanjaya make mockeries of their competition.
But, for me. . .I just think the show is good entertainment. I prefer seeing Bird Suit and Bush Baby as much as I do Blake and Bo Bice. To me, the freaks are not being indulged; they’re no less a critical component of the show than is Jordin.
And, I don’t mean that like “I’m above your silly talent show.” I enjoy the talented singing and the competition aspect very much. But, we could all buy Whitney Houston DVD’s if all we were tuning into was serious vocal performances.
