Moooooom, my mother, once she figured out pizza dough, tended to use pizza as a leftover vehicle. Another one of her pizza specialties was the Friday cheese pizza (RC, back when most still kept meatless Fridays).
{{{MrsLA}}}
Farted around a lot today at irk because TPTB hadn’t signed off counts for a couple of days. By the end of the day, a whole mess of them were signed, but I didn’t have enough time to make too many adjustments. That means that I likely won’t get to knock off early tomorrow.
Thanks for the good news on Mrs. LA, flyboy. May I say she’s lucky to have kind, smart you to care for her when she’s discharged? I had only myself, and while that was fine–friends would have helped out if I’d asked, I can’t help thinking that having a caring human about helps healing. I assume last night was rough and hope you can get some rest now.
Migraine was strictly ocular. I went for a long walk, maybe 6 or 7 miles. At one point, I was at the state capital complex. The buildings are fenced off now, but the campus is still lovely. Walking helps me stay quiet inside.
FCM, my Italian mother would have been confounded by beer in pizza dough. They definitely didn’t make dough that way in Salerno. But she was all for trying new things, and if beer makes a better dough, she’d have approved.
Evening all. BLT’s have just been consumed for dinner and all is right with the world.
flyboy, good news on Mrs. L.A., hope the Doc decides to let her go, I think she’ll be more comfortable having you doing the ‘gofer’ stuff than asking the nursing corps to do so tonight.
BBBoo, t’was still good advice even if not required in this case.
OK, need to do some more internettin’ and stuff. All y’all take care.
Mrs. L.A. called. She’s in the Decision Unit with the IV. They’re going to keep her overnight because the appendix ruptured when they were taking it out. She’ll get some more antibiotics in the morning, and then she should be released.
Well, I can’t say that the beer did anything for the dough. I didn’t taste any difference, so I shan’t mess with it again. FCD did request that I make the trust thinner. He liked it better, I didn’t. So next time, I know. I did determine that 1/4 of a recipe is enough crust for a personal size.
Not sure what tomorrow’s plan will include. Then again, indecision is the key to flexibility.
That they do. Mine did it to me when I was eight. Spent entirely too much time in hospitals that fall, betweeen the week of surgical recovery and a readmission for peritonitis.
At least the goldbricks are being clamped down on. Apparently, some manipulation of phones to achieve excessive not-ready has been noted to management displeasure.
The callers were way too numerous and heinous. Very cranky and rude, everyone agreed. I am peopled out. Only really want to deal with DH (and he’s kinda borderline), but had to make nice with new neighbors in the apartment above us and the one to our left as we face out our door. Both seem pretty OK and I managed to fake being sociable, but I am OVER humans today. Maybe some Plague Inc is in order.
The downstairs neighbor found my note and came up to talk. His English is broken, which made it harder. (Also, no mask. ) He said they have little furniture in the living room, so it echoes, but they’ve been loud in the other end of the apartment. I didn’t push this, though. He plans to get rugs and furniture in there at some point. The important thing to me is that he’s aware and will try. I really hate complaining to neighbors–What if they get angry?–but I think it turned out OK. It’s definitely quieter tonight.
Good that the nasty appendix is out. Not good that it blew up on removal, but at least they were able to deal with it immediately rather than be simmering away for hours while someone ponders if they should go to the hospital or not.
I think PWAISDN’s housemate might do that. He whacked some sort of growth on his skin, which immediately commenced with the bleeding and being messy. He doesn’t want to go to the doc because he “knows” that the doc would need to tend to the bump in the hospital. Guess he’s never seen Dr. Pimple Popper to know the extent of what a dermatologist can do in their office.
Up early after a broken night - kept waking for no apparent reason, so by 5:30 I just gave up.
Today’s main goal is setting up the new printer. I’d also like to finish hanging our prints in the living room, as the painting has been completed for months now. Plus the living room curtains are due to be delivered today - I think I may run to Lowe’s and get a new curtain rod - the old one was just meh. That’s still TBD.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and rainin’ with a predicted high of 58 and rain for the day. UGH! The big item on my agenda today is to go get shot at nine-fifteen this a.m. Even though it means I must be out and about in the rain, which I would rather not be, I am happy to go get shot. Sup shall be baked poke chops, green beans, squishes, scalloped N.O.T. and rolls.
Flyboy hope you got some rest and some booze. I’m sure Mrs.LA was well taken care of last night and will be more than happy to be back home today.
gotti appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed that PWAISDN gets his grant. It was just your average, everyday, run of the mill colonoscopy. You know me, I don’t need anything fancy.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Why must life be so difficult!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s Friday and I’ve got the day off which is always a good thing. It’s bright and shiny outside, and the weather app says “The sun’s out, but it could be warmer. You could also be chatting with fucking Beyoncé, but you’re not”. To be fair, I have no great desire to chat with her, there are far more important rockstars in my life that I would prefer to talk to. App says I will get 5C/41F up to 6C/42F and it’ll be mostly sunny.
Taking the app at it’s word, I decided to forego a chat with someone I have no interest in, and I went on a brisk walk into town instead. I had to do some stuff at the bank that required seeing a real person, but they don’t open on Saturdays now so I had to take a day off work to do that errand. Not that I object to having a day off work at all. I have been outside in proper being about the public attire too. Had to queue outside the bank for a while, town was busier than I’d expected. Had a pleasant chat to the bank lady (perhaps the weather app spelt Beyonce wrong and meant banklady) and then walked home again.
gotti appropriate and inappropriate appendages crossed, here’s hoping for good news.
** flyboy** hope you manage to get Mrs LA home today and she’s on the road to recovery.
{{{nellie}}} just 'cos.
Off to drink tea and decide what to do with the rest of my day now. I suspect there might be a book involved although the carpets are looking at me like I should get the vacuum out…maybe I’ll just ignore them until tomorrow. Tonight my favourite singer in the whole wide world is doing a live gig from his living room in Spain so I’ll have dinner cooked and out of the way before that starts so I can enjoy the entire 2hrs from the comfort of the sofa.
It’s finally Friday. It’s been a week, I tell ya! Even though it was only a four-day week, it felt longer; mainly because there just seemed to be no end of fires to put out.
We are waiting on a quote for a new fence. Part of it blew down in a windstorm a couple of weeks ago. That portion of fencing is 17 years old, but it didn’t help that the neighbor decided to put some kind of sandpit right next to the posts supporting those panels and the stone wall helped to rot out the posts more quickly. It’s hard to describe, but if you saw it, you would know what I mean. At any rate, we’re hoping the quote doesn’t send us to the poor house, lol! We’ve just opted to replace that whole side along with the backside. We’ve been repairing various sections of the fence over the years; it just makes sense to do the whole thing at once. We’re not paying for the fencing on the other side. That belongs to the neighbors that we never see; we only know they only seem to be there in the summer and we hear lots of work going on inside the house. They never mow the lawn and they were illegally burning something last year. They are the ONE house exempt from the HOA. Fortunately, we can’t see their yard. But, yeah, not paying for their fence too,. We’ve repaired or replaced many of the panels on that side, and I’m sick of it. We never saw a penny for any of that from the previous neighbor, nor this neighbor.
I hope Mrs. Johnny recovers quickly.
We may see some lowland snow over the weekend and through Wednesday, but there will be no real accumulation. I don’t mind a good dose of cold. It helps keep the bugs down in the spring and summer, especially fleas. Which is important when you have dogs. Well, only one dog now. We lost our sweet lab mix around Thanksgiving.
Once we have a new fence up, we will probably get another dog. Mainly to keep Polar company. He really misses his sweet girl, even still. Before we lost her, you would never have guessed that Polar is a senior dog. He was playful as a puppy and very active. Since we lost her, he’s lost a lot of that vigor. He needs a canine companion, and we’re going to get one. To be honest, I don’t miss picking up the double amounts of poo, but it’s all about what’s best for Polar.
Well, I need to head to my upstairs office and start my workday. At least it’s my short 8 hour day.
Get well wishes to shadey and Mrs LAstrong text**…I had my left cataract out yeaterday. I was hoping for thegood sedation, but got the IV equivalent of a Valium. My sister spent the night with me and is taking me to the follow up visit later this morning. I can tell I will need readers but that’s ok.
Howdy Y’all! I left the house at ten of nine to go get shot. I got there, filled out some paperirk, got my temp checked, got shot, got my next appointment (February 19th at 9:45 a.m.), waited the required fifteen minutes afterward and was back at da cave at ten o’ clock. Not shabby at all! Everyone was great and the experience was easy. Little bit of soreness in the right arm, but that is not unusual for me after a vaccine.
We ran to the credit union, only to discover that you’re allowed inside by appointment only. So I’m waiting for a callback to schedule said appointment. Meanwhile, I got my new printer set up and my curtains have been delivered. It looks like my curtain rod is ready to be picked up at Lowe’s according to the website, but I haven’t received and email yet. I may just call them. I don’t want to make the 15 mile (one way) drive until I know.
I have a bird feeder on the patio outside the big windows. It’s a pole with dangly things to hold the food, as well as a tray and a water thingy. I have planted it in a big pot with a bay tree growing in it.
It’s taken the local avian population a while to get the hang of it but we have some regulars now. The pigeons scoff most of it, but there’s plenty left for the others. There is a solitary blackbird, several sparrows, some goldfinches and two robins. I am surprised that we have two as they are intensely territorial and very aggressive. I just watched one of them chase the goldies away.
The odd thing is that the goldies are not too interested in the nuts but prefer seeds. I will probably have to tip the nuts out and crush them before they go mouldy.
A bright, frosty day here today. Lots of news about the poor souls who are now mopping up the floodwater from their ground floors. If it was just water, it wouldn’t be too bad, but they get the contents of the sewers as well.
Just of curiosity, who is this person? (I’ve probably never heard of him.) My favourite singer in the whole wide world is Judith Durham.
Currently 45o (wind chill 39), with a predicted high of 42 and low of 21. We did actually get snow flurries yesterday; more snow is supposed to arrive Tuesday. No plans for the day.
I didn’t get my walk yesterday, but I did manage to lift some weights downstairs. My family, wonderful as they are, were totally dismayed I didn’t watch The Mandalorian with them. I really couldn’t care less about said show; it’s okay, but they typically insist on waiting for me to watch it. I love that they want to do that, but I really didn’t have any more attention to spare, I asked them to watch without me and - yay! - they did. But when I admitted I was lukewarm on it, you’d have thought I kicked a puppy.
Anyway, coffee and toast have been had. Performance reviews (including my own) have been scheduled. I’d really rather not talk about it. I’d rather pretend that this year didn’t happen because I know I didn’t hit my goals (I couldn’t) and I also know that I need to take the hit for that on my team’s behalf, and I’d rather not have that conveyed to me. It’s kinda like my weight. I know I need to take some off, but I really don’t want someone to tell me that.
I’m glad to hear Mrs LA is doing better - how scary that it burst! I sympathize with not wanting to stay at the hospital; I hope she comes home as soon as possible so she can recover there.
