Archer S10

They didn’t start the season with him in the hospital and they don’t have any scenes with the other characters bedside. I like this approach better, just all in on the season’s premise.

Would you say “please detonate”?

Heh. A polite British android WMD is an interesting concept.

The premise of a sentient explosive seems cribbed from 1974’s Dark Star, though I never saw it myself. Carol/Cheryl’s multilayered psychopathy remains good for a laugh.

I’ve seen it, and yes, kind of, although the explosive there is a big nonhumanoid bomb that becomes fascinated by phenomenology. A funny low-budget sf movie, though, and worth a look.

Well last week’s episode was by far the best of this season. I really liked the references to “Alien” with Cheryl in the cube and Archer going mad…and…

Looks like Archer is starting to wake from his coma!! We got to see the whole gang with season 1 outfits!

Really, it’s actually less about spotting specific Easter egg’s IMHO as it is about counting various space-tropes and design trends from Star Wars through 2000s sci fi.
The Seamus is your basic “ISO Standard Human Spaceship” brick in space design.

Archer gears up with what looks like a Aliens USCMC smart gun, motion tracker and armor that also looks influenced by design of the Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry armor.

Their shuttle is clearly derived from the standard “tilt-engine VTOL human combat shuttle” design of the Pelican from HALO, the landing boats from Starship Troopers and their originator, the USCMC Cheyene dropship.

Many of the firearms have that “offspring of a Belgian submachinegun and an iPod” look of films like Oblivion, District 9 and Elysium.

The “Cubert” is reminiscent of any Mcguffin “space treasure that drives the crew insane” found in movies like Sphere, Event Horizon, Supernova, etc.

Finding your own clone from Oblivion, Battlestar Galactica, countless others.

The sentient doomsday weapon I’m sure has been done multiple times in Star Trek and Doctor Who.

Sentient bomb is from Dark Star.

The monolith is from 2001, the insanity from Event Horizon etc as noted

Finished the season and I’d say it was… OK. Funny, but just not as many laughs as in the early years, although I certainly liked the sf setting.

The show’s now been renewed for an eleventh season - sploosh! Some minor spoilers here, and a Comic-Con interview with the cast: Archer renewed for season 11, reveals major changes | EW.com

Bumped.

Maybe I’m the last Archer fan to realize it, but I just learned that Salvador Dali also had a pet ocelot named Babou: Salvador Dalí - Wikipedia

Yes, you are.

I watched the first 4 (?) episodes and I gave up on it. I thought it was easily the worst season so far. At least the previous season had a semblance of a plot and a great variation on the opening theme song.
