Yeah, another bad day.
Overall, it’s definitely better than it was a few months ago when every other log on was an aggravation. My experience isn’t everyone’s but it seems that on most days, there are only a few times where it hangs or times out. Some days it’s almost back to normal. But once every 7-10 days, it’s just awful and this is one of those 24-hr stretches I guess. As I may have posted before, it seems to happen on weekends (at least for me).
Seems like the only solution would be Deus Ex Machina
Mostly having login issues today. Seems mostly fine after I get in, but it takes a few tries to get in.
Seems particularly bad now. Three timeouts to quote a post, two more to preview, three more to try to post, then more timeouts when I try to refresh to see if the post went thru.

Why is it that sometimes instead of the time-out error message, I get the “offline for maintenance” message? Then the next try, I get in, which is how I know the SDMB isn’t offline–or else it’s the fastest maintenance on record.
The hamsters have a variety of cards to post, which they select at random. They’re just messin’ with you. Rodents gotta have fun, too. 
IOW, who the fuck knows…
One thing shelps, if you click on the last page from CP, etc, it often burps- at least for me. But if you go to page one, *then *to last page, it works better.

I’ve noticed that, too, for the error messages. The “maintenance” thing seems to happen regardless. Maybe ThelmaLou’s onto something.

Yes, this is the worst stretch I’ve experienced for a while. In the past, I’ve had one day out of about 1-2 weeks where I had 3-5 timeouts, but it usually went away. But this is the 2nd or 3rd consecutive day or “timeout hell.”
I wasn’t on much over the weekend, but yeah, today is the worst I’ve seen in terms of timeouts.
I agree-- very bad today. And this whole issue has been going on for many weeks. Seriously aggravating.
I have subscriptions expiring soon, membership and custom title. Usually I will have renewed by now. I know the Board needs money to fix the problem, but at the same time I’m not sure I want to pay money for such poor performance. And so I am in wait-and-see mode and will decide later what I want to do. After all, I can be aggravated for free, so why pay for that?
Every time I come in here and read what you guys are saying I wonder why none of this happens to me? I have probably had ten total time outs ever, and none for weeks. Sometimes it gets real slow so I go elsewhere for a few minutes and come back and it’s ok. Weird. I know it’s not because I’m such a nice person…or is it???
Well, you probably are a nice person, but I think what matters here is that your post per day average is very much less than that of some of the folks here who have been complaining the most. Although the problems seem to arise just in trying to read as well as when posting, so I dunno – maybe just lucky I guess.
I’m already detecting a slow down the last hour or so. In my mind, it adds to my suspicion that weekend drives up traffic, which in turn leads to the slow down. This server can only handle so much, it would seem.
Has “weekend” really been a meaningful concept for the past 7 weeks, though?
Maybe the moderate improvement over the past month or two has been fewer people surfing the dope at the office.
And, like I said, more people surfing on the weekend. It seems to be a problem that’s related to site traffic - only able to handle a certain amount of visitors, clicks, posts, or other requests at any given time. The number of those requests - even if it’s just clicks for page views - goes up on the weekends and the servers can’t handle it (my WAG anyway).
Started getting some delays yesterday evening and now it’s definitely worse today.
