I was driving across the state and I stopped at a drugstore to buy a soda and use the men’s room. As I was heading up to the front of the store to check out, I noticed a rack of books. They were horror novels, which I enjoy. They were clearly published by some minor publisher so I assumed it must be the work of some local author.
I was right. As I was looking at the book, the cashier told me she was the author. I bought the book and she autographed it for me.
Well, as suspected, the thin layer of white stuff has turned the un-gritted roads into skating rinks, and my little car, which has no winter tyres (because it never snows here, this is the first time in 8 years) is really not equipped for the back roads. Irk is picking up some people who live closer, 'cos they also have a farm, so have access to a selection of 4wds and tractors, but I’m a bit far. No irk for me today then!
There’s an ambilance station opposite, and they’re having trouble with the roads. That’s my ‘nope’ point. It’s all supposed to melt by tomorrow anyway, so I said I can do then instead.
Yes, we are pathetic. Yes, we’re obsessed with the weather. We know.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and clear (I saw the moon!) with a predicted high of <snerk> 69! <snerk> and N.O.S. for the day. I shall go visit Miss Becky today and take her a pimento cheese sammich cause that’s one of the things she will eat right now. I also need to take care of a few errands and will continue to move stuff out of the rooms to be painted next week. Excitatin’ day ahead! We shall sup upon salmon patties, peas, smashed N.O.T. and bizkits. YUM!
Nettie HEE! I have that site bookmarked.
Nuts that pretty much is what goes on around here if TWPTB even mention the “s” word.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, since I am to go about the public, purtification and the donnin’ of adult goin’ outside clothin’ shall commence.
Holy crap on a cracker, is it windy!!! I woke at 2AM and heard it howling, and I’m pretty sure I heard branches falling on the roof. Then when I was showering, the power flicked off and on a few times. Fortunately, we didn’t go black, but I was a bit nervous, standing there with my hair all lathered up, knowing we’re on a well and we need power for water.
OK, it wasn’t that dire - the well pump fills a pressurized tank, so I would have had enough water to rinse my hair, but still. Then I got to thinking - is there a flashlight in the bedroom? I don’t think so, but there is my tablet and it was fully charged, so there would have been some light. But, wait - our garage door opener is powered and that door is so heavy, it’s a pain to lift manually…
I made it to work and if we do lose power at home, **FCD **is there and so is a generator. This high wind warning goes thru 6AM tomorrow - lots of local schools and even the federal gummint is closed today!
I am awake but still abed as it was about 60 degeees F in the bedroom. I turned off the air conditioner. It is 73 F outside. I really need to adjust the thermostat.
I saw where the channel from the Atlantic to the Chesapeake Bay has been closed by the Coast Guard. My mom and sister are supposed to leave on a cruise tomorrow, but the ship may not be able to get back to Baltimore - their cruise may be abbreviated. My sister is NOT going to be happy.
Moooooooomm that sounds like some nasty weather! They’re reminding us in Ali-bama that tornado season starts soon, bug t what you have covers a whole lot more territory. Take care and make sure Higgs doesn’t get blown away…
Nut, driving there is a lot like North Ali-bama; I think you’re being smart about things.
Need to come up with a plan for evaluating 50 or so soccer players all at one time, hopefully I’ll have some help in doing what I envision. Also need to take the extra-large comforter from the bed and to the dry cleaners and get the Spring-Fall comforter out of storage and onto the bed, file my insurance claim now that all the work is done (for the first time in weeks I’m not waiting for a contractor or waiting for one to call to tell me when he’s coming), and oh, I also want to go to the home remodeling show down in Huntsville this weekend.
Didja plan ahead & get [del]French toast fixin’s[/del] a tray from the skool cafeteria; they do great double duty as a sled/saucer.
I’m waiting to hear if my wickend plans are on or off; stoopit weather. Sounds like I’ll be mostly on the rain side of the line iffn I go, but will be interestin’ driving on unfamiliar roads in the dark with heavy rains & gale force gusts. Hopefully they’ll be head on or from the rear & not from the side; always hated those on the bike - I’m on the white line, I’m on the double yellow line.
Blurfage Irking of course. Today was payroll day so that is done. It’s easy when one does not have any employees.
Today is accounts payable and plenty of that to keep me busy and I am logged into the POS in case we get swamped which I don’t see happening. We are still short of hotel rooms by over half and my cheap customers cannot afford to come unless they can stay cheaply on base.
Happy Firday for everyone whom (who?) does not have to irk tomorrow like me.
We have had some of that white stuff falling out of the sky, but yesterday evening it turned to freezing rain which is even worse. Driving in that was nt fun at all - I had to go shopping so that we had adequate supplies of TP and the makings of French Toast, just to make sure swampy wouldn’t worry himself over it.
Supplies were acquired, and on the way home I managed to stop the car from slipping and sliding around too much on the ungritted road. I was not about to faff around trying to get the gates open to park on my drive so I have left the car on the street and have to hope that nobody else slips and slides into it.
Today it’s been dry but now there’s white stuff coming down again. Tell it to stop!
Well, I’m going to Vegas for the first time over my spring break, which is the week of April 2nd. One of those days will be an all day trip to the Grand Canyon.
I’m thinking about an Alaskan cruise in the beginning of July. Not sure yet because I may want to start saving for a Mediterranean cruise over next year’s spring break.
Is it ever windy out there!
I think we had a bit of sleet this morning, something was rapping at the windows.
The power blipped out for a bit, but wasn’t out for long.
I am so happy I don’t need to go outside today.
I’ve been up since 4am, thanks to Ripple. I have no idea what he wanted, sometimes he sits and stares at me but I can’t tell what he is thinking.
He can make you laugh FCM, it’s not your ankles getting nipped. Red - he has a long way to go with training, and he is still quite the brat. The other day my son left the bathroom door open and Ripple grabbed the end of the toilet paper and ran through the upstairs with it.
Having a puppy will teach you to close doors and to pick things up off the floor.
Sorry about the marathon - Spidey
Glad things are mostly back to normal for you MetalMouse.
I found a website the shows current ships in the Chesapeake Bay. All it’s showing are 5 cargo vessels anchored south of the Bay Bridge. I assume they’re bound for Baltimore, but due to the wind, they’re not going to be allowed anywhere near the bridges.
My sister is still in denial. I’ll be surprised if the cruise ship gets to Baltimore by the morning. We shall see…
The winds brought down trees and aggravated the landslides; we’ve got like 15 in this county alone. And remember this is PA and not California. Our mayor is reaching out to the state for economic help with it all. I still have a detour to and from irk due to one of the worse-located. Other than that just getting ready for our no-coaster event this weekend.
Howdy Y’all! Back from errandin’ and visitatin’ Miss Becky. She snarfed that pimento cheese sammich down as soon as I got there. She does love her some pimento cheese!
There’s some icky weather stuff goin’ on so y’all in its path stay safe. 'Tis N.O.S. but windy out. March is definitely upon us.
Spidey we called it “dinin’ hall trayin’” back in the day. So much fun slidin’ down a hill on a tray. If I tried that now, I’d probably break my entire body.
Mid-30s, windy as all get out, and rainy with a possibility of snow flurries. Yee-ha.
I am bundled up with the pooches. 'Beamer is still sick. 'Beamette is at skool. They have had 2 “threats” that involved the police in the last month. One ended up with an expulsion (angry young man), and one that ended up with the kid being sent home early (mortified young lady who chose the wrong turn of phrase).
I want to upgrade my directv package, just one little hop up.
There’s a few channels I want that I don’t get and I’m willing to pay for them.
What pisses me off though is now I have to pay an extra fee for ‘regional sports’.
I don’t watch sports, I don’t like sports, I don’t want ANY sports channels on my TV, just more crap to scroll through, and I really resent having to pay it.
I think cable companies should give people the choice to opt out of sports channels.
Comcast has a small sports fee that I would like to get out of.
I liked C-Band satellite. There were packages that included things that I didn’t watch, but there was also ala carte. But G-d hates me, and Motorola didn’t make enough money off of C-Band subscribers, so they stopped the feeds.
You could also watch C-Band when it rained, the dish being ten feet in diameter unlike the two foot wide Direct TV Ku band dishes.
