Back to "normality" in the MMP?

IU just had to spend a lot of money on my car. Something about a coil, and running on only three of the cylinders. Oh, and the oild change I originally went in for. I knew it had problems though. Pitty me. Then I had to go pick up my dog Mauser from the vet, and pay for his teeth cleaning. That wasn’t cheap either, but maintaining a pet is kind of like maintaining a car. If you keep it up it will cost less in the long run.

Moooooom, have you checked to see if your textbook is available solely online? My former grandboss had a textbook business that went gradually from dealing in hard copies to online only.

moon unit, congrats on the baby kittehs! Unfortunately, they’re difficult to ship across the border. :frowning:

I’m alive! I appreciate all of y’all’s concern. <3

It’s been an eventful day. The tornado missed me. It pretty much stayed on the US 70 / I 40 corridor (for reference, they run SW to NE, I24/US41 is NW to SE and I65/US31 N to S, making an asterisk in Nashville. I live along the I24/US41 corridor). I awoke to the weather alert going crazy and a loud, long roll of thunder around 3:30 this A.M. I made sure that the hall closet was clear and the bug out bag handy just in case that Nelson and I had to duck in or bug out. Our new cycle counter at irk left early to help her daughter who had lost the roof of her rental (young and no renters insurance). Since she’s still a temp and not eligible for our assistance program, the rest of us are collecting money for a gift card somewhere where she can buy groceries, clothes and prescriptions.

I also stopped to vote this afternoon (when it was beee-yooti-full) and was in and out in 10 minutes. Then I called my dad, since he’s the only one I know who’s not on FB. :stuck_out_tongue: Now, it’s chilling and watching the election results.

You awoke at 3:30 in the morning to thunder rolls; were you pacin’ by the telephone in your faded flannel gown? :dubious:

::raises hand:: Sure, don’t call me. :frowning:
The rain has started here.

Glad you and yours are OK, Red. And good on all of ya at work helping out.

Cupcakes, glad dog and car are still in order.

FCM, I could be proven wrong, but I was under the impression that moon unit was a grandmama.

Sari, doggio, swampy, the genius of American technology: Meet Rover! The Remote Controlled Cooler - YouTube OK, it’s not a keg, but…

The last furniture is in the house, I had to move the display cabinet from where I told them to put it, looks better where it is now (IMHO). May get two more dining chairs, but there’s no rush on them. Outside of that and the normal Tuesday Mac-n-cheese, all is quiet at casa Rat.

One of our dear sorta relations has a daughter who lost their home in your area Red. Already a go fund me with a goal of $20K has surpassed that. We even donated a little. They and their dogs are fine thank goodness.

Busy day at irk. I finished all the A/P that had kinda backed up a bit while I was out. Hubs had an eye Dr appt and I talked him into going to the VA office since he was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam era. He talked with a nice man who has requested his medical records in order to start an Agent Orange claim. I hope something comes of it.

I have an appointment with the doc about my throat at 0845 in the morning. It will make me late to irk but this has gone on long enough. He can also recheck my broken foot.

I was hit with a request today from the CO to come up with a list of affordable pet/family hotels in the Orlando area to be used for hurricane evacuees. Places that will be amenable to an influx of Navy folks should the need arise. Deadline is Moanday which is not a lot of time. I have already started to irk on it and have one of my clerks helping and a colleague that is more computer savvy than me making me a template in which to put desired info. Forget calling individual hotels I went straight to hotel groups. The first and only one I spoke to so far has 43 properties within 40 miles. Our orders are to get to within 150 miles of Orlando. This is a huge task and a little more notice would have been nice but I shall
produce his list of 200 or so properties.

Glad you are OK Red. Life can change in the blink of an eye.

Congrats on kitties MoonUnit. Everyone else Rosie’s sig.

HaRUMPH! You mentioned kittens, but there are no pictures? HaRUMPH, I say. We need the cute!

Yay, Kiko! Good dog, taking care of your kitties.

Glad your thumb’s doing so much better.

The callers weren’t too brain-dead today or overly abundant, thankfully. Worst annoyance of the day was the mosquitoes chomping on me.

yeah i have that same scar … mine was 97 or 8

Happy mornin’. It’s early. Didn’t sleep very well at all. Maybe I’ll take a nap later. Nothing much on the agenda for the day, so, I can be lazy

It got chilly, overnight. It’s down to 36*, at the moment. The dogs didn’t want to stay out very long. It’s supposed to warm up to around 55*, though. That works for me! No rain, either. Just windy. Again. It was really blowin’, yesterday.

I feel much better than I did last night. Good grief, I was eatin’ Imodium like they were Tic-Tacs. My guts actually hurt. I didn’t have a stomach ache, though. It was just my guts that hurt. Glad it’s gone, now! I’m still afraid to eat anything. Not gonna risk it!

I hope everyone has a decent day.

someone asked me how the military would handle the virus thing … i assume a lot of the ships are gonna get called home hence the overflow?

It’s gonna be a long day. Our neighbor’s car alarm went off about 2:30 in the AM. I’ve been up since then. I might have gotten 3 hours of sleep up till then. So, yeah, long day.

**FCD **has left for another appointment in Baltimore with one of the other surgeons. Apparently, there will be 4 - 2 orthopedists, a vascular surgeon, and a neurologist. Very glad we have good insurance. I made him bacon and eggs before he left, but I burned the bacon. I can’t remember the last time I made bacon, but now I know I set it too hot. Dammit. I’ll do better next time.

It’s Wiggle Giggle day, plus I have class at 6. Between the two, I’ll have to do my homework and figure out tonight’s supper. I’m pretty sure I’ll sleep with Mel tonight.

Happy Wednesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slug abed until seven a.m.! 'Tis 66 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of the same with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted today, tonight, and tomorrow. Fine by us as we have no where we need to go. A good day to be in da cave and dry. Laundry shall be accomplished and beast stew and cornbread consumed for sup. As I mentioned yestiddy, I might even bake sump’n. It’s a willy-nilly day!

Butters sounds like quite a task!

Red good on y’all for helpin’ out your co-irker’s daughter!

CupCakes pets and vehicles be expensive. We deal with vehicles cause we need 'em. We deal with pets because we love 'em. Skritches to Mauser from Unca swampy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Happy Hump Day!

It’s another sunshiny day, 48 degrees now, getting up to 61.

Got the brats off to daycare, forgot their food, had to come home to get it and take it out to them. Got the photos out, Niece1 should get them tomorrow.

I woke up at 4 and couldn’t get back to sleep, now I am doubtful any yard irk will get done.
Well, even if it’s only 15 minutes worth, that is better than nothing.

Morning all. Slept until 8am, except for two kidney-relieving trips and the day is clear and 60F. Unfortunately, weatherfolks say that’s as hot as it gets and rain is due this afternon/evening and tomorrow. Oh joy.

Some laundry to do and I’m thinking of donating some of the plastic storage tubs I have accumulated to the local thrift store, I figure they can probably use them if not sell them. Onle lead of washing planned but that is about it for the day.

FCM, burning bacon is not a capital offense…at least the first time…

shady, I think Butter’s boss is more worried about hurricane season than the virus. I don’t think you had joined us yet, but Butter’s got evacuated a couple years ago due to Hurricanes. Guess boss wants his best person working on options. And my gall bladder got pulled abut '95 and I got the same 4 small nicks.

Speaking of medical, hope Becks and gotti are doing well, and glad you’re feeling better ** nona.**

All y’all take care on Hump day.

That sounds familiar.

And I’m back from Wiggle Giggle. Only 6 kids there today, but they all seemed to have fun, except the one girl who kept building a tower, only to have some other kid (including Roxy) knock it down…

I’m lunching. SIL took Roxy to have lunch with Daughter. **FCD **is probably still in Baltimore - I asked him to call when he was on his way home, but he may have forgotten. So for the moment, I have a quiet house. Yay!

It’s 47 F here now, heading for a high of 53, or so they say. In a little while I’m gonna see if I can get the lawnmower started, 'cause our ‘lawn’ is a veritable jungle. That should be enough excitement for one day.

Rosie’s sig to all, and happy hump day.

**FCD **is home and napping. He really liked the surgeon he met today. The guy tried to convince him to have the surgery in 2 steps, but that would add 3 weeks to the time he couldn’t work, and that’s just too much.

Meanwhile, I’m going over my ASL homework. I expect to have some problems - it’s a rather theatrical language, and I’m not a theatrical person. But we shall see…

Evenin’ all.

Today was just blurf day at Uni- everyone was having trouble staying awake, so glad to be back home, where I can fall asleep and not feel bad. We had a meeting today, with sammiches and donuts and stuff provided, all the class reps were invited and… I was the only one who showed. One other happened to be in the same building, and was bribed over with donuts, but there was at least 10 people invited.

I see why people hate dealing with students sometimes.

Anyway, not to be all mysterious, but I have applied for A Thing, and I would appreciate generic good application thoughts. If I get through to the next stage, details will be provided, but I’m trying not to get myself excited over what is probably a very small possibility of getting A Thing.

I got up early to go play Hide-&-Go-Seek with Mr. Sun. (He’s not very good at it as he really doesn’t know he’s supposed to stay hidden behind the building.)
Once I’m done there, I went back to my car & was going to go to another place where the sun is better once it’s up a bit. I put on an old pair of jeans this morning. They had started to become threadbare in the crotch so I put an iron-on patch on them. The patch lasted all of one wearing. I guess the stress & flexing in that area meant it didn’t hold all the way around. However, since there was a patch under the hole, even if it was not fully attached meant they weren’t obscene & that I could continue to wear them. Well, as I go to get back into the car I hear “RRRRIIIIIIPPPP!!!” & assume that that threadbare area has just gotten bigger. Nope!

I look down & see what turns out to be a 7½"-8" () tear starting from the bottom of the zipper area on the front of the jeans!!!   (They’re 501’s, so button fly instead of a zipper.) I was planning on going home after shooting but it’s bad enough that I drive home with my hand in my lap lest a high SUV or truck pulls up next to me at a light. :o

Even if it was fixable, this is now the second piece of denim to rip; those jeans are now securely in the trash can awaiting trash day.

**Moomm **why was the surgeon suggesting two steps? What are the consequences, potentially, of doing it all at once? If there are concerns about the safety of doing it all at once, it’s worth the 3 week delay, IMNSHO.
Today I take daughter to doctor. Tomorrow she starts her very first day at her new school! Yay!
