I used to see their ads and Praeger U’s. Now there’s a fine pair of institutions.
Red alert! Red alert!
talky I hate double-booked meetings. Hate. Them. At my old company, a person wasn’t “really” working unless they had double or triple booked meetings, plus their own work to complete. I don’t miss it for some reason. I wish you patience.
shoe Hugs from me as well. (Also if you can, please talk to a doctor. There are some great online options now, if it’s overwhelming to talk to someone in person.)
nettie Happy Birthday!
Almost done with my morning kid wrangling. Pixel does not like the kidney food. I’ll try again this morning, and then we’ll switch brands if needed. For a rescued street dog, he’s become a lot pickier than I would have predicted.
Yesterday turned unexpectedly busy, so I imagine today I will sleep. Nonstop fun around here!
Nice morning at the park, not too hot. Some new pups showed up, and I think they may become regulars. The more the merrier.
Echo got a little testy with one of the newbies. I think because not only did he get too close to me, he is unneutered, and she seems to have a bit of a problem with intact males. I grabbed her harness, one of my friends got right in her face and told he NO! Then I put her in a timeout. She seems to be catching on. I hope so. Panini got in her face today and Echo walked away instead of fighting back.
Lawn guy is coming to cut my grass today, and it sure needs it.
Shoe, you don’t need to change for anybody, and IMNSHO, the appropriate response is not crying, but fuck you. Well, it doesn’t have to be fuck you, sometimes just looking at them like they have three heads works. People who want to change you are usually the ones who need to work on themselves, don’t let their issues become your issues.
That said, I cannot stand Billy Joel, and it may take a while for me to forgive you for that earworm.
So happy for Polar poo.
We sign the papers for the refinance on Moonday morning.
Finally.
Time for irk, and waiting for the lawn guy. I need to run the dishwasher and restart the dryer.
I went out to check the temp of the wading pool water, and apparently I startled a couple of snakes on the deck. They slithered off too fast for me to see what kind they are. I doubt that they’re bad ones, tho.
Which reminds me - when I was waiting for FCD to get his eyes checked, I saw a skink skittering around the optometrist’s waiting area. It was almost invisible on the carpet. I was entertained.
Howdy all. Somewhat more cheery than earlier, just got up before 6am and that made me a bit grumpy. Another bright and hot day in N. Ali-bama, get to meet the 8U girls team I’m coaching this afternoon, so that’ll be three soccer teams and 25 kids all told. At least it gets me out of the house and doing some exercise.
Already wished you a happy birthday on Facebook, Seanette, but why waste the opportunity, so Happy Birthday again!
Taters, happy for Polar’s poop. Even happier I don’t have to clean his butt…
swampy, happy mowage.
OK, need to seek sustenance and follow-up on some early-morning cleaning. All y’all take care.
talky, I know what you mean…sometimes you just gotta sit down and do the work I used to be much the same. Oh, and Chuck in Accounting can get his own &*(%^% coffee…
Got into the orifice, put my Monsters in the fridge (the small ones I got yesterday, and some 24-ouncers I found at a gas station this morning), and put on half a pot of coffee. Went through my emails, checked social media, and then went to get a cuppa joe. I’d forgotten to put coffee in, so all there was was hot water. Trying again, with coffee this time.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 19C/68F and mostly cloudy according to the weather guessing device, which would explain why it’s bright and sunny out there.
Happy Nettie Day!
shoe I certainly loves you just like you are - and if we all lived closer, I’d probably never get the lot of you out of my house
nellie it’s good to know we don’t have to bake cakes with files inside, will you settle for some celebratory file-free cake instead?
Mooooom you should definitely charge appropriately for your pottery! I still have my moooom original sitting on my desk at the office, carefully guarding my stock of tea bags.
talky one thing that really irks me is when my calendar says I’m in a meeting, my online presence thing says I’m in a meeting, and my Teams wossname says I’m in a meeting…but someone still messages me saying they need me to do something for them. Yeah, right…not happening!
Today has been as deeply frustrating as yesterday. One of my minions is starting a PhD in September so she handed in her notice this morning. She asked if she could drop from full-time to 18hrs a week so she could keep the job and still complete the studies but our dept is so stretched that we can’t accommodate it. She’s a fantastic minion and I will be very sorry to lose her. Also means we have to start recruitment again - there’s currently an open application for her grade which closes on Tuesday. So far we’ve had 10 applications, with a wealth of experience from Burger King to a doc’s receptionist.
Pub last night was fun, my friends are off to an outdoor music festival at the weekend so I get to feed the critters for them. Four ferrets and two cats. Fun times!
Just found out that my mom’s cousin lost her husband this morning. Apparently he’d been sick in recent days - by my reckoning, he was probably close to 80. No word on a memorial service, but Carolyn is going to stay with her daughter in Fl.
Supervisor: “slow down, you’re filling the slide too fast.”
Junior Shouting Officer: < radios to take away 1 bag person >
15min later:
Senior and Junior Shouting Officers: “WHY IS THE SLIDE NOT FULL, DUMP FASTER!”
But we did get manpower, which is the only way it gets done like they want. I managed to rip my pants, too. I stopped at Harris Teeter on the way home. The cashier gave me the Senior Discount.
: quietly sweeps wafer crumbs into Confessional :
Yay for Polar Poop! And I saw the Polar pic on FB. : skritches :
Happy Nettie Day!
“I almost took my dead pet lizard to the necromancer, but I didn’t want to raise a skink.”
Roxy has been returned to her mother. It’s peaceful at FairyChatEstates, and the smell of ribs fills the house. I’m thinking salad and steak fries as the sides.
Darkening skies and I think I may have heard thunder. Or not. We shall see. I don’t care - I have no place to go.
I am trying to make it rain by sheer force of will. So far, not working.
I sent flowers to my daughter today just to surprise her. If I were wealthy, I’d send flowers to one deserving person a week. There’s nothing like getting flowers to make you feel special, I think. I’d send flowers to each of you had I money and addresses.
I’ve been wrapping books I got to send to great-nieces/nephew. I have to figure out what to send them in. I don’t have the right-size boxes. I like to imagine their little faces when they get surprises in the mail.
Boy, I HOPE my IRS worries are over. I never heard back from the CPA, so I called and left a message. His secretary said he’s out of the office but will get to it in a couple days. So it really WILL be down to the wire. Kids, don’t put off your homework 'til the last minute.
Red, I’d get myself arrested just to get a File Surprise cake from you. BooFae, thank you! I’ll be there to pick it up on the next bus from Washington. It may be awhile…
Taters, yay for Polar! Are you still taking him to the vet? Hope he’s infection-free! Poor little guy has been through enough this week.
Happy Day, Nettie!
Oh, the irony.
BooFae, sorry you’re losing your minion.
Moooom, so sorry about your cousin’s husband.
It says the hornets excavated the wood. They could make an honest living in excavation, but no, they go and murder bees…
I can’t stop myself prowling around the house right now. It’s raining buckets and storming super loud and overlyboy was supposed to be going to cross country. Danged kid hasn’t texted me yet and the bus just went by, so I’m assuming he’s still there. I guess I should call him. I’m trying not to be clingy and weird, but it’s lightning, dammit.
TIL that you don’t have to boil frozen gnocchi. You can bake it as part of a sheet pan meal. Who knew? This greatly expands my evening meal options that require minimal work. Just mix the gnocchi, a protein, some veggies and seasonings with olive oil, spread on a baking sheet, bake and Robert’s your mother’s brother.
A day spent driving high school students crazy doesn’t count against your Earthly allotment.
What temp and how long? I wonder if it would work with ravioli?
The ribs were truly falling off the bones. Very tasty. I’ve wrapped half a rack for the freezer, and the remains of the other half, minus what we ate tonight, are in the fridge for whenever. I’ve decided I’m going to rotiss a chicken for tomorrow when my daughter comes to dinner. It’s on the counter to thaw - don’t let me forget to shove it in the fridge before I go to bed!!! I’m serious!!!
FCD is still working - he had to do a major re-re-re-re-redesign (for an infinite value of re) and he needs the model ready to be shared in a meeting in the morning. Seriously, he’s on the 15th or 16th iteration because the guy doing the electrical is a moron (no really, he is. I’ve met him.) plus various and sundry folk like to pipe up with “Why can’t we add…?” which of course changes everything. But for $75/hour, he’ll do what they want. I think he should charge more, but it’s his business.
Thunder rumbled earlier yet nary a drop fell. It’s so humid out there - thank goodness for a/c! Perfect for an evening of chillage!
metal mouse, I do use a company issued box knife, but sometimes the ungodly amount of tape (y’all can use a little if it makes you feel better, just don’t cover up the tear strip) on some of them is ridiculous (usually, the phone inside is a busted up flip phone).
Mooooooooom, the sundae bar comes AFTER the wacky tobacky! I’m sorry about your cousin.
Yay for Polar poo!
Happy birthday seanette!
nellie, for most books, a padded envelope will work.
Drum roll please: I got Nelson’s DNA back today. According to it, he’s pretty evenly split between chihuahua, rat terrier, yorkie and Welsh Pembroke corgi. I can see the first three, but WTF? Corgi? Maybe he’s descended from one of the queen’s puppers. I knew both paternal grandparents. One was a 3.5# chihuahua and the other a 6# chihuahua mix. Now we know what his mama’s mix is.
Speaking of “back to the grindstone”, I’ve basically been on vacation since departing Hades Annex.
Temp gig, with the Elections office, starts tomorrow, running until late October/early November, possibly longer. FT, decent pay, shorter commute. Mixture of call center and other clerical.
