Baltimore-DC Dopefest,part 2?

goboy asked how far Chevy’s is from the Greenbelt Metro station-it ain’t walking distance. Off the top of my head, I would say it’s about 4 miles (but I’m assuming Chevy’s is in Greenway Plaza, I’ve never been to Chevy’s).

Give me a call beforehand and I’ll drive some people from the Metro station to Chevy’s.

I don’t see any reason why Nicky shouldn’t be O.K. in Chevy’s.

I doubt if I am gonna be able to do the trip to hell and back, on the 17th. Sorry RT, but it just ain’t possible. I have been very busy of late. (Mom in the hospital, doing well, but alone, and ninety miles from home) I still have some hopes of making it to Chevy’s that evening, but the down and back trip is just too much for right now.

Wendell, I might well need that ride from the Metro, too. Or if someone else were thinking about dropping by there on the way, it would be a real help. (I am spending a lot of time on Metro lately, getting into town to see Mom, and back out to work.) I could use a good night of wild carousing or at least a few drinks and some good conversation.

Tris

Well, I’m still in for Chevy’s.

Rufus- if there’s room in your car, I might be up for that trip to hell; if not, then, Tris, I can probably pick you up at the Metro- just let me know when.

Opal - If Nicky’s coming along, I’ll see if I can’t get Mrs. O and the Tzeroling (aka Izzy the Terrible) to come along so maybe the two of them won’t be so bored with all the grownups ignoring them!

bring wierddave, please, oh please, oh please? I’ve been wanting to meet him for a while now.

Anyone who is coming down to Raleigh, the trip is only four hours. I suggest you shoot down 95 to 85 to Rt. 1 not far from the VA/NC border. (E-mail me for information or find the thread).

If anyone wants to come down the night before, I will look into cheap lodging. If it’s only a single person, my floor is available (that’s so punk rock!)

Anyway, go to THIS THREAD for the Raleigh details and let us all know if you can make it!!

Yer pal,

aenea,

I’ll try. I’m just wondering why you want to meet me so much. Do you have a grudge? Am I gonna be in trouble? I promise that you WILL be disapointed.

just like some of your posts…

come on down and have milkshakes with us! It will be an interesting lunchfest.

Falcon - we’re driving to NC Friday evening. We may be crazy, but we know our limitations.

Tris - Given the situation with your mom, I was pretty much assuming you wouldn’t be able to make the road trip, unless I heard otherwise from you. I’m glad she’s decided to stick around awhile longer, and I’m hoping to see you at Chevy’s!

John - if Dave decides not to go, it would be no problem. If he does go, then you, Dave, Sqrl, and dcnewsman, and me might be a bit tight. (My car’s a 2000 Accord, FWIW - a lot roomier than my old '86 Accord, but three adults in the back would still be a tad cramped.) But there are two possibilities that might get us all there and back, while reducing the crowdedness of my backseat a bit:

  1. As I understand it, Surgo’s driving from the Shindig to Chevy’s, so he might be able to take a passenger on the way north. That would mean y’all (not me; I’ll be driving) would only be squashed on the southbound trip. If my passengers agree that that’s tolerable, that’s fine with me.

Surgo - are you still driving up? Thought I’d better ask!

  1. Satan - you had the Dennisons on the ‘Confirmed’ list for the Shindig. How sure are you that they’re going? (Phil, Peta, speak up if you’re reading this - and don’t forget, inquiring minds want to know where to meet you to help you move on June 10!) Because if they’re going, that would give us two cars, with up to seven people, headed down from DC. That’s pretty manageable.

I could pick up all the DC/MD folks, after which we rendezvous with the Dennisons, redistribute passengers, and drive on down.

One way or another, we ought to be able to squeeze everybody in who wants to go.

RT -

I’m starting to want to drive on down…where are you crazy people staying? Email me with more info…I wouldn’t mind being squished on the way down, or I could drive myself.

Falc - I’ve reserved a room at the Econo-Lodge West, IIRC; at any rate, it’s the only Econolodge in the Raleigh area. Go to http://www.econolodge.com, then use their locator to find the one in Raleigh. SqrlCub and dcnewsman said they were also going to book a room there.

All - The room I’ve reserved has two double beds; anyone who wants to split the room with me, drop me an email. I’ll be in TN this weekend; back Monday or Tuesday.

bump

Aarrgh.

My housemate’s been trying to set up a seven player game of Pax Britannica for two months now; he finally set the date as June 17th. If I don’t play, either he reschedules (delaying the game possibly another two months) or it’s only a six-player game (which means one more drop and the whole thing falls apart again).

So, given that going down to NC would involve my housemate being passive-aggressive all over me for the next month or so, I’ll have to decline.

But I’ll still be at Chevy’s, come Hell or high water.

John - does Pax Britannica bear any resemblance to Diplomacy? (There aren’t that many games in existence where seven is the optimal number of participants.)

[/hijack]

Sorry you won’t be on the road trip, but I’ll look forward to seeing you (and the rest of the crew!) at Chevy’s whenever we roadtrippers pull in.

I see Metro is extending weekend service to 2am - but not in time to help us this time. (The extended hours begin June 30.)

RT- yes, and no. It’s a lot more complex (and involves die-rolls); it’s based on the Great Powers of Europe (as well as Japan and the U.S.) setting up and/or expanding their Colonial Empires from 1880 to 1916.

The problem is, it’s set up as a “four to seven player” game; certain major powers are relegared to minor power status depending upon how many players there are. The main person who’s willing to play (and bring a few friends) will only play if he can play Japan, and that requires six players. Without him and his friends, we’ve only got three players, which means no game. Ergo, if I’m not around, we’re not likely to have six players, which means said friend will refuse to play and go home, taking his friends with him, leaving my housemate sitting around feeling pissed off.

Since this is only a few days away, I thought it deserved a bump. See you all there!

Well I’m going to the N.C. gathering and am going to spend time with some family down there. So I hate to cancel (If the gatherings weren’t on the same day, i’d attend both). I’ll come to the next D.C. gathering, ok guys.

I won’t stay until the wee hours like the last time, but I’m sure I’ll be there for at least 2-3 hours.
