We definitely need pics of that cake, BooFae! Sounds cool.
Why are there non-academic folks in your academic program anyway, Nava?
Yikes, gotti! After the bridge collapse a couple years ago here and now a falling chunk out there, I’m getting nervous about driving on bridges! And that was never something that used to bother me. But… yikes!
Good luck as Awesome Drawing Reviewer, Rebo!
I went to the dentist this morning. I like the dentist. It feels good to me when they poke my teeth. Dunno why. I’m just weird I guess!
Tonight we’re going to see The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. Last-minute tix were $15 yesterday. It’s worthwhile at that price, not so much at $50.
Man, have I been snurfly and sneezy today! Not sick, just annoyed by having to pause for nose-blowing and sneeze-muffling. ugh.
Got a new project assigned today that takes priority over the other project. And I get a flunky assigned to me. I spent about an hour figuring out what my flunky needed to do and ensuring he could do it. He’s still awaiting his final clearance, so he doesn’t have access to the same network I’m on. However, I checked the one he can use and all the data he’ll need is there. So yay! He can do the grunt work.
Plus I scored an aquarium for my daughter - it needs to be sealed since it leaks, but it’ll be perfect for her turtle over the holidays. Huzzah for freebies! I’ll be getting it next week.
Came home and cleaned the section of gutter over the garage. With all the rain we’ve been having, it was overflowing and causing some minor flooding in the garage. Here’s hoping future downpours will be diverted to the downspout.
Steak for supper. And beef rice-a-roni. And some vegetable matter.
I mean those of us who are “non-traditional students.” About half the students in the program have come directly from bachelors in translation which they felt were “too focused on literary translation” so they chose “a more dynamic program;” the other half is people who have been translating for decades without a related degree, a guy who has a degree in translation but who worked in a bank for ten years, a chiropractor who moved to Scotland following a woman and who’s discovered he’s got it easier to find a job as a translator than as a chiropractor (everybody believes he speaks German just by seeing his passport, but getting his degree “approved” is much more complicated)… so, people who want to know “how do I explain to the client that sometimes you need to change punctuation, because punctuation rules are different in different languages” rather than “who wrote a seminal paper in the field of transactional semiotics in 1997.”
I loved the look in the face of the professor who explained to us how to write an annotated bibliography when she said “I imagine none of you is a published author, laughter, is any of you a published author?” and I raised my hand Kodak moment, boo-yeah!
Aw dang, Li-Li. I hope it passes quickly. I hope your sneezes and snuffles go away, too, FCM.
So, I went and had goop put on my neck and they did an ultra-sound of my thyroid. I don’t have the results yet. After that, I had couple more appointments, and then I had to pick my son up from school early. After that, we went down to the DMV to schedule his driving test. After that, it was back to my HMO to pick up a 'script.
I’m finally home.
I’m a little tired, but have a lot to do, so after relaxing for a few, I need to get started on some chores.
They’re now suggesting that the bridge brace broke because of 30 MPH wind yesterday. Some flexing back and forth, and it snapped like a paperclip.
The brige is something like 65 years old and it’s withstood plenty of wind stronger than that. They’re also saying that because it’s windy, the repair work will be slower. Oy…
Feel better LiLi. I’m not sure how much H1N1 is goin’ around down here but I know it’s here. Does anybody else think H1N1 should be pronounced “hiney”?
We et General Tso’s supper. 'Twas good.
I have a headache. I’m convinced it’s work related even though it didn’t start til I got home. Still, I blame work. All bad things are work’s fault, right?
And it’s swampy, for the win! Hiney. :D:D Yes, juvenile humor appeals to me today.
On the other hand, it’s not nice to eat other people’s supper. What did General Tso have for supper instead?
Feel better soon, LiLi. One of my employees has been home with the flu all week. She was really sick Friday and Saturday, but started to feel better on Sunday, I think. Still running a fever, but closer to human. Hopefully it’ll go that speedily for you.
That bridge break sounds scary, gotti. How was traffic?
I’d like to second taxi’s request for cake pictures, BooFae.
Am indulging in comfort food for din-din. Tomato soup and a ham and cheese quesadilla (technically a burrita - in my family at least - because it’s on a flour tortilla). Yum.
Work was stressful and will be stressful through the weekend, I’m afraid. Big implementation and we’re not quite where we need to be.
280,000 vehicles normally cross the bridge every day. No typo there - more than a quarter-million cars, trucks and buses use the bridge every day. I saw somewhere that it works out to an average of 4,000 people at any particular moment are making their way across.
Some people did the smart thing and took BART, which reports a 47% increase in ridership. Some ferry routes have seen nine times the usual number of riders.
Those people who either have to drive (such as my neighbor who’s a courier) or just stubbornly refuse to take transit clogged the other area bridges anywhere from 40% more to three times as much, depending on the time of day.
I’m just happy that tomorrow and Friday are my normal telecommute days.
So last night I met a girl on another forum who is also majoring in Poli Sci. After a bit of PMing there, we talked on Gchat for three and a half hours. She’s said that she doesn’t want a long-distance or internet relationship, but I still enjoy talking to her. She should be on in a bit less than two hours, if her Wednesday evenings are similar to her Tuesdays.
I just enjoyed, no, savored the most decadent chocolate-chocolate chip cookie in creation. My friends Ian and Kit have taken their baking talents to the web. Oh. My. God. So much yummy in one little cookie ought to be illegal!
I encourage you to order now, because you’re going to want these at your next party, family gathering, or self pampering night.
I can vouch for the quality of all the goods available here - those two having been baking for their house parties for years.
#2 son is doing ok–no fever again today and his cough has improved. We’re going to try a half day of school tomorrow and see how he does. I do NOT want him taking gym.
Now Daughter has called and she has the flu–most likely H1N1. It never rains but it pours.
I was extremely busy at work today–I left over an hour late. Life at the library is never dull. I spent the whole day in constant motion, trying to get caught up. Gah!
Am off tomorrow to watch over #2 son (and pick him up from school). Sorry I didn’t really read–am deep into ST:TOS and trying now to catch up at home on stuff.
