Because Nobody Else Did, Here's The MMP

Hmmm…I made the cake base last night and I’m not entirely happy with it. It isn’t a cake as such, it’s more like a large chocolate brownie which I had to cook in a ceramic dish because I didn’t have a deep enough sheetpan thingie for it. Anyway, it smells fine but took 15mins longer to cook than the recipe said, and I think I turned it out before it was quite cold enough because it’s now got a dip in the middle.

Never mind, I can fill that in with icing. I’m considering cheating on the icing and using a tub of good old Betty Crocker’s chocolate fudge stuff but I’ll have to see how the time goes on Friday. The cake is a graveyard, it’s a brownie base covered in chocolate icing and has crumbled choc chip cookies on top to resemble dirt. I will still have make the little meringue ghosts (they are supposed to float above the surface which is what the florists’ wire is for) and the gravemarkers which are chocolate-coated finger biscuits. All that, by Saturday afternoon…and I’m going out for beerverages tonight.

Get well soon, sickies!

Morning-- optical migraines scare me! I can deal with pain. But distortions to vision always make me worry that it’s a stroke or something. Happily, this one did not last long and I only feel a little off this morning.

Blech.

Huh, happy Thursday all. Well, whatever it is, I seem to have gotten some iteration of it. I’m home sick today; if I’m not feeling better tomorrow I’ll be home then too. Better to rest and get well then to try to go in to work, I say.

Let me see … sorry that your daughter is sick, Rigs but glad that son is feeling some better. Those cookies do look delicious, Rosie. My brain isn’t functioning very clearly right now although I have had a bite or two of toast.

At least tomorrow is FURDAY!

Glad you at least feel better, Soapy.
Up, not currently running a fever, don’t feel completely horrible right now. In an hour or so 'll call my parents and find out how Nat’s doing.

Do you ever sort of forget how to eat when you’re sick, if you haven’t been doing it much? Really weird.

Congrats on the Weird Earl’s, bobbio!

Feel better, li-li and all the other sickies.

pie, you are amazing!!! Time for some pictures of the new sveltness, methinks.

Can you imagine driving across that bridge and all of a sudden a huge cable swings down and crashes over your car?? I don’t much like bridges anyway but that would just send me over the edge.

Last night’s dinner was marinated turkey cutlets on the barbee with broccoli. Very tasty.

Dept. head is out sick today. Other coordinating cow-orker is also out sick today. Looks like it will be a long day.

Tupug

Blurf. Is it Firday yet? Hell, I’d even settle for beer o’clock today.

OTTIGN.

Awake. Caffeinated. Thankful there’s only one day left in this Og-forsaken work week. I really need to get more sleep and hit the sack earlier, but it seems like every time I make plans for it, there’s always something else that needs doing.

Blurf.

Is it time to go home yet?

Blargh.

Work took us out to a corn maze yesterday, for a “team building exercise” and pizza lunch… it was rather fun, despite the fact that the weather was alternating between drizzle and heavy mist. My team came in a respectable third last. Wheeeee.

The Boy’s mother has taken to calling us daily to ask if we’ve gotten our Swine Flu vaccinations yet. She got her shot on the first day without much hassle, but then again, she happens to be in two high risk groups, as she’s immuno-suppressed AND works in health care. She doesn’t seem to comprehend that for the rest of us, getting the shot would mean using a half-day vacation so we can wait in line for 4-5 hours. Sorry, not gonna happen.

Today is substantially less fun than yesterday, and involves no corn or mazes or pizza. Ick. Think I’m going to crawl under my desk and take a nap.

Wow - I finally have a second to post in here.

Rosie’s sig to everyone! I read the thread, but my comprehension is kinda slow today.

I finally uploaded some pictures of our latest visitor. He luuuuurves Lucy, and almost every evening comes by and barks to be let in. We know his owner, so it’s all good. his name is Dipsey, and I would guess he’s got some long-haired dachsund in him. Ernie’s very jealous, but he’s warming up to him.

Ain’t he cute? And he loves me, too.

:: sprays Lysol around MMP :: All you sickies stay away!

… I mean, I’m sorry to hear so many people are sick. Please except my sympathy.

And stay away from me!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Gotti, what’s SF like in January? Is that the rainy season or is it cool-but-sunny? We probably don’t have time for the current Southwest fare sale, which ends tonight, but that got us thinking about winter get-aways, and SF/Bay Area is on the list of places we want to see. But we want a winter trip and don’t want to go there if it’s going to rain the entire time. The alternate location, if SF will be too yucky, is San Antonio, which does seem like a better winter vacation location. But I thought I’d ask anyway.

Descriptions don’t cut it, boofae! We require pictures of your creation!

We got cheap tickets to go see The Importance of Being Earnest last night. Fun play. What ever happened to all the plays/movies about the aristocracy? I mean we still have rich people, but you just don’t see contemporary plays/movies/tv shows about people like those that Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, and PG Wodehouse wrote about. Movies like The Philadelphia Story and Bringing Up Baby and the ones with Asta the dog. Why not?

Howdy Y’all! Three down and two to go!

Da cave smells nummy! I have a beastloaf in the oven. Veggies shall be squash and steamed cabbage. MMMMMMMMM… I’s hongry!

Rebo Dipsey is a cutie.

Muppet I went through a corn maze once in Iowa. Duh! Corn. Iowa. Whodathunk! Anywho, it was a blast. It was also accompanied by a steak dinner and mucho beerverages. Oh, and the ride to and from was a hayride. Ok, it was on a truckbed with lots of bales of hay. That’s hayrideish.

Glad you’re feelin’ better LiLi. Hope you’re feelin’ better Herbs.

BooFae cake pictureage must ensue.

CutiePie, cite!

Apropos of nothing (except in my own mind since I’m looking at Food Network’s November magazine), I hate cranberry sauce. Except the jellied kind that comes in a can. That’s ok. But the texture of real cranberry sauce is ICK.

Whew - long day. I had to drop daughter off at school this morning, so I was late getting to the office, so I had to work late to get my 8 hours… Her classroom turtle is insane - he cracked me up!

Work wasn’t too bad, but I alternated between feeling fine and feeling mega-ick. I’m fine right now. We’re going to Salsa’s for supper - hope I stay feeling fine.

Daughter and SIL are enroute to Orlando. **Puggy **- you will let me know if they act up, won’t you? They’ll be home on Monday.

That’s all for now. Off to have some Pollo Fiesta - YUM!!!

It is almost Friday! Whoohooooooooooooooo!

Know what else that means? 21 days til I seen mr ems!:D:D:D:D

My awesome boss is transfering :frowning: so we did my review this afternoon before she leaves and it went really well - I should get some bonus for this year early next year! Criptic message though it seems I may be moving soon as well…

No-one else get sick you hear!

Earnest is a very fun play. I think, in general, we don’t have the kind of aristocratic/plebian separation anymore. We have rich people, but our social system (especially in North America) isn’t as rigid and stratified.

Hah. Well, TVMan and I are going to dress up for Halloween so I’ll post those pictures.

This has been an incredibly busy day. I fixed lunch for 35 people by myself this morning which normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but it was tacos and I didn’t have enough taco shells so I had to run to the grocery store in the middle of everything. Then I had to deliver somewhere that was an hour away. Fortunately, the delivery was just down the street from one of my suppliers so I spent $200 :frowning: on stuff I needed. And on and on from there. Now I’m sitting waiting for my oil to be changed and then maybe some relaxing after that.

I’m sorry to say, but it will almost definitely be wet and gloomy as January is our rainy month.

Do you know where you might be moving to, mmmmmmmmms?

That’s a good point, LiLi. We were also thinking that it might be due to who was writing then compared to now. A century ago, the lower class and even middle class to some degree didn’t have time for frivolous activities like writing plays. Now, everyone (or most people) are literate and many more people have time to write. So we get plays/tv/movies about the lower and middle classes. And people want to see people like them or like what they aspire to but what’s in reach. So we see professionals in tv shows - doctors, lawyers, cops, etc. Those were our theories anyway.

Thanks for the info, gotti. It’s looking like San Antonio may win. In which case, I probably should plan to see the aunt that I’m having these email political debates with. She lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (and I always think of the two together when I think of her because she used to work at the DFW airport) but used to live in San Antonio and still has friends there. So we probably should tell her we’re going to be there and make dinner plans and/or have her show us around the Riverwalk or something. Assuming we keep our debates civil and we’re still on speaking terms.

Home from Salsa’s - pollo fiesta was yum as usual. And I was more hungry than I’d thought - I planned on bringing half home for lunch tomorrow - nope.

I almost giggled when I went to check out. The girl at the register had a nametag that said “Rebo” - If I hadn’t met our Rebo, I’d have had to ask…

And if no one has claimed the next MMP, I’ll take it. I have an idea that may work. Like it matters… hehehe

The next MMP is yours, FCM! (Yeah, I’m skipping the vote. :stuck_out_tongue: )

::Hides behind protective Lysol cloud::

Glad you’re feeling better, LiLi!

Can’t remember if I’ve seen Earnest as a play, but it’s a fun movie. As to why aristocrats aren’t the subject of fiction any more: I think there’s also a component of “average people” also wanting to see works of fiction about other “average people.” They want to see characters that they can “relate to”. Or people who have gone from their socioeconomic situation to a more privileged one (see all that reality TV out there…)

Long tiring work day. More of the same tomorrow.

Burrita and tomato soup again for din-din tonight. But I also got a slice of chocolate sheet cake - one of my work friends brought it in today and kindly set aside a piece for me. I am living for Sunday…or maybe next Thursday, when I plan to be off.

Gotta go knit to de-stress.

Hugs.
