I have been productive today - I got up and did the vacuuming then I ironed a load of stuff so I have presentable clothes for work next week. I didn’t bother with breakfast since I got up too late for that, and have had a rather nice prawn and mayo sarnie for lunch followed by a banana.
Now I have baked ginger cupcakes that have just come out of the oven and smell extremely yummy. They are cooling off at the moment and will be iced and decorated yesterday. They get some lemon icing and will be topped with chopped bits of stem ginger. They’ve also got stem ginger, ground ginger, black treacle and golden syrup in them so they are about as far from Fat Club friendly as it’s possible to get.
I’ll be taking them into work tomorrow so we can all share in the calorie-fest but I’m sure they will go down well.
If I want to try one, I think it will cost me at least half an hour’s running on the Wii!
Second load of jeans is in the washer first is in the dryer. I’ve got a DVD of The King’s Speech that I’m going to pop in and watch while knitting and waiting on my various laundry loads to finish. I already checked the place in the yard where I want the firewood stacked, and it’s good to go, so yay! I need to bring in 4 more logs and the other rack will be empty. It’ll be interesting to see how much space a cord will take.
I should pull something out of the freezer for supper. I think I have a small roast in there that will thaw in time to go into the rotisserie. We shall see…
We had a nice time at our friends’ place last night and so did the dogs. We came home around midnight or so and I stayed up to watch some television.
I kept waking up and finally around 7:15 I decided to haul my carcass out of bed. I’ve made coffee, had some to drink and have read most of the local news.
I don’t have any plans to go anywhere today and will just do laundry and other chores around the house. It should, I hope, be a nice quiet day.
I have a friend who cannot crochet - not because she lacks the manual dexterity, but because she has some carpel tunnel symptoms, and the twisting and turning of the wrists involved with crochet makes her wrists really, really hurt. So, she sticks to knitting, of which she is a goddess, and she is happy.
Late answer for Ashes, Ashes on medication: bruxism is a side-effect for pretty much all the SSRIs out there. I am broke, so any medication I get needs to be off patent and inexpensive (Prozac is $4 per month, so it was do-able). I have a follow-up appointment with my psych in one month to tell him how I’m doing. Need to remind my mom to check on my breathing when she gets up, to see if I may have sleep apnea.
Sticks and Stones, I don’t think I’m you, primarily because it sounds like you’re accomplishing something. However, if you would like to share credit on any particular thing, I’m open.
Aaaaaand, I woke up angry this morning. Why? Who the hell knows. Not me.
Never mind that my dad can’t make up his mind to have the vapors or let his head explode, or that I’m the one who gets to clean the carpet of severe puppy pee when I wanted to crate train her and Mom said no. Or that my best friend in the world fell off the face of the Earth months ago, can’t be bothered to answer my emails or phone calls until I threaten to send police on a wellness check. Or that I hadn’t even decided what to do for breakfast before I had three chores/errands assigned to me. Or that this weekend is the local Ren Faire, and there’s no money for me to go. Or . . . Or . . . Or . . .
Fuck my life, people. I haven’t seen my friends in nearly three years. No single one of my health symptoms is enough to say “hey, that sucks” but the compilation of all of them makes it pretty much impossible to live like an adult. I can’t hold down a job, I can’t make commitments more than five minutes out, because I don’t know how I’ll be that day.
But give me twenty minutes, and I’ll probably be singing show tunes because the barista laughed at my joke.
Last load of laundry is in the dryer. I just finished The King’s Speech - I really enjoyed it. FCD finished making the new hood for the aquarium and I helped him install it - boy, is it bright!! I bet the fish are confused… hehehe
I forgot to get anything out of the freezer, so we’ll have to go out to eat supper. Damn the luck.
There was a long thread/argument about ginger ale some years ago, but I’m too lazy to look it up.
What I’ve learned from 64 years of ginger ale imbibing, (yes they give Vernors to babies in Michigan.): Vernors - the ginger ale of the gods. Medium spicey and very smooth, but sweet. When Vernors was local to Michigan it was aged in oak barrels. They don’t do that any more, unfortunately, but it’s still the best. Cock & Bull Ginger beer - not really alcoholic IIRC, but very smooth, lighter and less sweet than Vernors. I haven’t seen this for years. They may be out of business. Stewarts Ginger Beer- non-alcoholic. Strong, bitey ginger taste, but smooth and sweet. Very good. Reed’s - Find this at Trader Joe’s - Very strong, bite your nose off ginger taste. Sweet but a bit rough. Natural Brew Outrageous Ginger Ale - As strong as Reeds but smoother. Not for the uninitiated. My second favorite, I find it at Fred Meyers (Kroger) Boylan’s - I’ve only had this once. Medium strong, sweet and smooth.
Canada Dry Ginger Ale - Doesn’t belong in a discussion of real ginger ale/beer. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.
Schwepps - never had it. No Comment
I know there are brands not represented here. I haven’t tasted them all. If you want me to review your favorite, send me a six-pack and I’ll let you know.
I’m doing a journal for the Cardio doc. I have to weigh myself every morning and take my blood pressure. (I have a machine), and write down any possible side-effects, headaches, etc. I’m the king of medication side-effects. Since I’m also trying to lose weight, I’m also recording everything I eat and when. It’s really interesting reading, actually. You’ll should try it sometime. No, I won’t post mine here. There are things I don’t want you to know.
We watched The King’s Speech a while ago too. I didn’t think I would like it, but by the time it was over, I was sorry it was over, if you know what I mean.
I think that mmmmmmmmmmmmmm has posted on FB, so I think she’s OK. (Heh.)
It’s been more than 20 minutes, Kanga. How’s it going? (Seriously, sorry about the emotional ups and downs. Hope things smooth out soon.)
I was also raised on Vernor’s. Well not exclusively, but still. It used to be available in a very limited area (they didn’t sell it here when I first moved to Columbus), but I think it’s now available in most of the Great Lakes area.
My toes do not hurt.
Am being lazy today. Have been adding to my contacts on my iPad (mostly via iCloud, which, I have to say, is the best thing since sliced bread). Am about to watch a movie (haven’t decided what yet) and work on some park stuff. Although I really should go to the grocery store and get some veggies, first.
I am here! We are OK. Interesting night last night with the earthquake. We heard it coming first then wobbled and shook and rattled for over a minute but 15-20 seconds felt pretty strong.
We went and had lunch out and did a bit more Christmas shopping. We are almost totally done
Tonight supper will be poke loin and roasted veggies and I am about to go sort out my closet and move my winter stuff in and summer things out of the closet in the bedroom. I love Sundays!
The only brand you mentioned that I have heard of is Stewart’s. I’ve never seen their ginger beer though. Mostly it’s root beer and orange creme. Even when I lived in upstate NY and went to stewart’s gas stations all the time, I still never saw it.
I’m feeling a bit deprived.
Schweppes is pretty much the same as Canada Dry. Polar is even less like real ginger ale than Schweppes and Canada Dry. I’ve got Canada Dry today. I still enjoy it but I know what I’m missing thanks to that trip to Disney all those years ago. It makes me sad.
Takin’ a break from cleanin’. Bathrooms and kitchen are clean. Master bedroom, livin’ room and dinin’ room dusted. About to dust the study and guest bedroom. Next comes vacuumin’ and moppin’. Rah. Oh and vacuumed out the garage and back porch beofre dark time. Double Rah.
Back from not-so-bad Chinese - we dined in a sit-down Chinese place in Leonardtown - it wasn’t bad. Then we went by Food Lion so I could get some ice cream. Triple chocolate with peanut butter.
And on that note, I’m going to log off for the night and knit till beddy-bye. Did anyone volunteer for tomorrow?
