Because some of us are awake already, a Place Holder MMP

hehehehehehehehehehe:D:D
Will they not use the hand first time even if you ask for it? (asks the girl with insanely perfect veins that spurt blood gleefully whenever necessary)

/headdesk

So, yesterday, when I was at the doctor’s, I mentioned that I needed a referral for a mammogram, since I turn 40 this month, and I have a really stinky family history of cancer on my mom’s side. That’s bad. But I got the referral, and the doctor told me they take walk-ins. That’s good.

So, I went upstairs to the clinic there and was taken back in less than twenty minutes. That’s good. The tech had to step out for a moment, I was curious, so I came around and looked at the screen of her mammography gizmo. She returned, freaked, and started yammering about HIPAA violations - that’s bad. I assured her that I hadn’t seen a thing (actually, I’d seen a list of names), so she switched over to telling me about all the egregarious HIPAA violations she’d seen other people do. That’s . . . good?

Oh, and it turns out that mammogram technology has improved over the last five years, so instead of flattening the girls to the thickness of a heart omelette, she just plopped them up there, covered them, x-rayed them, and went to the next. It took less than fifteen minutes. That’s very good.

And half an hour ago, the clinic called me to ask where I’d gotten the original mammogram done when I turned 35, because the radiologist really wanted to compare. That’s . . . uh . . . not good? I didn’t have the name of the place, because it’s 1300 miles away, but I was able to give them the name of my former primary physician, which is wonderfully unique, so they’re going to call her office and find who’s got the original films. That’s good.

I have no idea how long it’ll take to hear back. That’s not good.

Also, does anyone know why California GPs don’t do pelvic exams? I mean, yeah, my doctor did one yesterday when I said “lump in my groin, and I can only feel it through my vaginal wall”, but he was . . . extremely uncomfortable. The other GP I saw was the same way. I got the feeling that unless my vagina had fallen out of my body, she was not going to look at it. WTF, doctors?

Drink lots of water and take some aspirin several hours before you go in next time.

Dehydration makes veins very hard to get to, but aspirin makes your blood slippery and thin. (I used to have really good veins. Now, I’ve had blood drawn so many times, my elbow veins are getting scarred. Now it’s about a 50/50 chance of getting a decent stick on the first try.)

It honestly never occurred to me you could do that, and next time I will do so!
phouka: I drank lots of water but I didn’t think of the asprin. I’ll do that. Also, do you know that a cow vagina (well: uterus) can actually fall out? James Herriott!

I haven’t had blood drawn a lot or anything. It’s always been like this. Stick the tip of my finger, squeeze, squeeze, squeeze, get half the blood they need. Vein is hard to find. Back of the hand - she still had to do both.

MOOOOOOM those cats on the wall are !!!111 Definitely crazy cat lady.

mika I’d have left the gauze and tape on and went around mutterin’, “next time I’ll look up instructions on the internet before I try this.”

Home from irk a little early just cause today. Chikin in the slow cooker simmerin’ away smells soooooo good! Green beans, brown rice and rolls will complete a nummy dindin.

Too late to complain about the early hour. I spent the day making salsa for a día de muertos potluck today. HOLY SHIT habanero peppers are hot. I made a batch with jalapenos, wasn’t hot enough so I added two habaneros. Now I need a tongue transplant.

WAG: afraid of malpractice claims. It’s easier to refer someone to a specialist than risk a patient claiming she was… treated unprofessionally.

Back from my interview. Have post-interview blues. Oh, look, we have brownies.

Yes, thanks. I needed a good laugh. I have a headache and got no sleep last night and I have to give a presentation in a couple hours.

I swear my life is more bipolar than I am sometimes. Ah, the joys of the self-employed. :smack:

HarveyKangaphouka, I’m sorry. I hope you find out something soon.

It is Friday tomorrow!

It is Friday tomorrow!

It is Friday tomorrow!

I hate wishing away weeks but man I hate this job.

Is it wrong I giggled at the cat picture fcm?

**mmmmm **- giggle away. My sister is nuts!! Just ask **CatDude **- as far as I know, he’s the only Mumper who’s ever met her. Oh, wait, **BBBobbio **has had the honor also.

Regarding blood draws, I have only one decent vein left - in my right arm just outside my elbow. When the phlebotomist approaches, I point to the spot and say “This is it!” It’s good enough for a couple of tubes for tests, but unfortunately, not good enough for donations. I’m B+, so it’s not like I’ve got super rare blood, which makes me feel less bad about not being able to give blood.

Waiting for daughter to get here so we can take my sweetie to supper. Punkin pies are cooling - I should probably put them in the fridge before we go. I talked to my mom - she loved her Hawaii vacation and hated the flight (no surprise - she hates flying of any kind) but she didn’t get us hula dancers for our dashboards. Dammit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Back from b-day dinner out. I had a very yummy crabcake and some amazing fried mushrooms… nom nom nom nom…

It’s time to log off and knit. My sweetie has taken off tomorrow, so we get a 3-day weekend together - yay!

Well, then, MOOOOOOM there is only one solution. Your mother must get right back on a plane to Hawai’i, march herself to a souvenir shop and buy bobblehaid hula dancers for everybody. I think that is a very reasonable thing to ask.

Or you could go here: http://www.hilohattie.com/

These stores are all over the place over there. It’s where we bought many trinkets for the kids and family when we went to Kauai.

Ugh, another long and frustrating day, but the good news is that this is my Friday. I’m so glad.

Hubby is making breakfast for dinner. Works for me. I’m sure I’ll be called out to the kitchen at some point to “help”. If not, I’ll be pleasantly surprised and very happy.

Zooming by between laundry and other clean-up.

Loved the cats, Moooommmmmmmm. If only my house were brick, I’d ask you for some as well.

Hope you get everything back soon and things are just fine, Kanga.

Hugs all!

Well, I’m seeing my psych tomorrow morning to discuss the fact that Prozac was actually making me more depressed (caused teeth grinding, teeth grinding caused loss of restful sleep, loss of restful sleep caused vicious depression, vicious depression caused increase in medication, rinse, repeat), and that having gone off it, I’m actually doing better, but that with a pending mammogram and a gyn appointment a week and a half off, I’m a little . . . stressed.

Sometimes, he takes pity on me and gives me Valium for the anxiety. Sure hope I get a little tomorrow.

Happy to report my snit from earlier is over as is my presentation!

Things are going to be very busy around here, but it’s all going to fit together very nicely.

On that note, since I’ve been working and schooling nonstop since 7 a.m., I’m off to bed!

Hee!

Dinner tonight was pulled poke sammichs with cole slaw. Actually old-fashioned cabbage salad with oil and vinegar, (and other stuffs), instead of mayo.

Everybody cross appendages for me please. I’m going to see the cardiologist tomorrow. At least this will put to rest those rumors that i don’t have a heart. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t remember those cats at all, Mom, they must not have done that in Florida.

Still up, for some reason.

Something reminded me that Nava asked about sites for looking for music (other than YouTube). Don’t remember seeing an answer. Here’s what I’ve got: you can check for samples on either amazon or iTunes (I think they’re up to 90 seconds). You can also check the NPR site to see if they’ve ever been interviewed or performed on the air. Their music section always has really cool stuff on it, all different genres. (I tend to just wander around over there rather than actually search.)

I’ve watched a couple of episodes of Castle and the first installment of Case Histories (which is excellent, by the way). Now I’m not very sleepy. Guess I’ll read for a bit.

It’s almost Firday!

FCM, those cats are cool! I especially like the stripey one. I wonder how long I could get away with one climbing up to my balcony?

Which reminds me! It was horrible! I locked myself out and I’m the only one with a key. I was in semi-sloppy clothes, with sort-of combed hair when I knocked on my new neighbor’s door and asked if her brother wouldn’t mind breaking into my place. Didn’t take but a minute to climb up, which is good, but bad ya know?

Phouka, have you tried other meds? It took a while to fine tune mine, but it was worth it. It’s ironic that seeing the therapist for anxiety can actually cause anxiety. A regular laugh riot.

Nava, for music I use Pandora and have heard accuradio is good.

Everybody who’s worried, you can give it a rest, I’ll take care of the worrying. Got candles, charms, the whole schlemiel. Besides, there’s no use wrrying till you know you have something to worry about. It’s a waste of your worry management skills. So hand 'em over, I have just the place for them.

Waitaminute, where did schlemiel come from? I meant shmir. I’m blaming it on my cat.
