Haven’t been feeling particularly eloquent today. Been doin’ homework. All the Jeep heater parts are in. Din din was a total experiment of throwing a bunch of stuff into a frying pan. Ended up with a quite tasty taco casserole.
rosie’s sig to all. I’m off to study spanish vocab while playing CoH.
One of the few things I liked about my Scottish dorm was that, if there was a fire alert (real or practice… we had way too many of the first kind) and you hadn’t left the building after 5 mins, you got fined. Even if you’d been in the bathtub singing Little Mermaid songs (as this Nigerian dude liked to do at 3am), 5 mins were enough to grab a towel and gettheheckout.
(((((Kai))))), I agree with the sentiments about boys and poopyheads but it’s still something you don’t need on top of everything else you’ve had to deal with.
I have been productive this morning! After an extremely tasty fried egg butty for breakfast, I did a bit of tidying and mopped the floors. Once they’re dry enough to walk on, I shall be cleaning the bathroom properly and get that job out of the way.
There will be ironing and laundry-folding later, and then I am going out to meet a friend for a Thai meal. She’s on her way back from India via Dubai, she sent me a text just after 4am to say that she’d reached Dubai so she should be back home early this afternoon. I hope she is dealing with jet lag ok, otherwise I’ll be poking and prodding her later to make sure she stays awake.
So far, that has been the extent of excitement in my life today.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 58 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 84 and sunny. We need a little sunny after last night’s deluge. Big time rain!
shortdrum yay for jeep parts!
BooFae maybe the pointy stick will come in handy with keepin’ your friend awake.
Shadow she is a dumbass. She needs to be set on fire.
Ok, I need me some more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence. Fortunately it’s only half a day. Unfortunately the other half will be irked tomorrow mornin’. Oh, well, life.
**doggio **- you need to work on your reading comprehension. **swampy **and I included disclaimers and avoided saying that *all *boys are poopyheads. There are some good ones out there, and I’m sure you’re one of them. All better now???
Up after another night of not being able to fall asleep - it was well after midnight this time. Which means tonight is a melatonin night. I can’t be a zombie at the fest tomorrow. And I’m pretty sure **gt **won’t want me falling asleep at the wheel enroute.
Hey, **BBBobbio **- tell the patient that you need to run to the store for, um, a present for her, then join us tomorrow. We can stop at a WaWa on the way back and you can get her something… <snerk> I don’t suppose your new rescue supplies include a little something to help her sleep for 6 or 7 hours while you’re gone…
No, I didn’t suggest what you think I’m suggesting, so hush.
Hot lunch date today! OK, not exactly. I’m meeting up with someone I knew last time I worked up this way. He’s been in Norfolk for training and he’s driving back home this morning (to Baltimore) so we’re going to meet in LaPlata for lunch. He’s supposed to call when he’s 45 minutes out. I just hope the place I picked is open for lunch. Otherwise, we’ll be having Kentucky Fried…
It’s still drizzly and ick here, but it’s supposed to get sunny, and the weekend is supposed to be glorious! Right now, I’m tentatively thinking Sunday will be a good day to move some hostas.
And perhaps a visit to a Dopefest wouldn’t be too bad, either? A girl can hope, right? Seriously, though, I hope the recovery speeds up. Oh, and, on preview, I also don’t endorse what FCM didn’t suggest.
I’d planned to be up much earlier, but woke up for a while, thinking it was about time to get up. Finally grabbed my iPod and found out it was 5:10. Fell asleep, figuring I’d wake up at 7 as usual, but didn’t wake up till someone’s alarm went off at 7:30.
So I’ma go for a bit of a walk, I think, then join a tour of the Capitol Hill area.
It was so nice out last night I wandered around the yard looking for things to do, plants to trim, flowers to smell, etc. In the back yard there are two beds off the porch that were in disrepair when we first moved in a year and a half ago but that I planted full with some beautiful shrubs, flowers, etc. Last summer that was all that came up but this year a bunch of volunteers filled in everywhere and I’m not sure what they are. Lots of reds and pinks and I think I need to take some pictures to my favorite nursery so they can identify them for me. In the meantime though I sure am enjoying their surprise appearance. They go really well with the ornamental peppers, carissa, yellow bells and gin & tonics.
Not happy with the jobcentre today- last time I was in, a week ago, the very friendly lady cheerfully explained that I’d have to come in every two weeks at 8.40 on a friday- except next session I had a meeting at 12 to finalise the claim, so don’t worry about coming in for the normal time; just come in for 12, they’d do it all in one go.
Last night, I had one of them ‘did I turn the oven off?’ moments, when I wasn’t sure if it had been 2 weeks or one week since I last went- and pulled out the printed reminder letter she’d given me for the meeting. Turns out, she was wrong (and I did have all the session dates written down, by her, this is not me mis-remembering) - the ‘in two weeks’ session was actually today. One week later. I nearly missed it- which would be 1/3 of the way towards being booted off the claim before they’d even processed it… grr… Oh well, I made it there anyway.
By the way Nava, a butty is an English regional dialect word for a sandwich- especially a bread roll, with egg and/or bacon. Or filled with chips. Only used in some areas- around here people just give you blank looks if you ask for one.
It’s a lovely sunny day here; I should take the excuse to go down my allotment, but I was there yesterday and overdid things somewhat and my leg’s still a bit hurty. Maybe I should just lounge in the back garden and enjoy the sun before it disappears for months.
mmmmmm fried egg butties. Where I am from it is a stottie:D
Rough week this week. We are all still a mess but grateful for the time we had with Echo and thankful he is no longer in pain. Miss him lots.
Anyways…
Boys can be poopy heads - I concur!
mr ems is getting ready to leave to go down to his parents for the week. His sister needs a break and so is going to visit her daughter in CO for a week which means mr ems is taking care of his mom & dad. His mom is doing OK - the tumour has not shrunk anymore but now that the chemo has worked its way out of her system her appetite is coming back so she is eating again and has even put on a few pounds. Which is good news although she is still really frail but her feistyness is coming back which is even better.
Right must get to work. I have some slides to pull together for someone else to add their part to on Monday.
I’m here, and things aren’t looking very good. The family is circling the wagons, and we have hospice in and out as often as we need them to be here. They are really awesome.
I dropped Tisiphone off at the vet for urinalysis. They gave her subQ fluids and painkillers yesterday, so she was frisky last night, but uncomfortable again this morning. I hope she’ll drink enough in a strange place for them to be able to get a sample.
I had breakfast at Coco’s this morning and ordered what I thought were multi-grain pancakes, but got some bizarre pumpkin concoction with nuts with a glob of pumpkin-and-fat. It wasn’t butter, because it didn’t melt. Pumpkin lard? Pumpkin Crisco? Pumpkin tallow? Plus my eggs were lukewarm. I’m sticking with the diner near my house from now on.
Howdy Y’all! Home from irk. Actually have been for a bit. I have had N.O.L., put chikin boobs, laigs and thighs on the smoker, and have macaroni boilin’ for mac & cheese as I post. Did I mention that tomorrow evenin’ folks are comin’ for dindin? Yeah, in addition to the fact that I have to irk in the mornin’, six people are comin’ over around fiveish for adult beverages to be followed by dindin. I am a dumbass and insane. I’m doin’ a green sallit, smoked chikin, mac & cheese, green beans, garlic bread and a candy cake. Oh yeah, cake is bakin’ too. I envision havin’ most everything cooked today, so tomorrow stuff can just be heated up. That way I also get me an afternoon nap after irk tomorrow which I shall deserve.
Hee aig buttie. Well, aigs do come out of a chikin’s butt.
Shadow thanks for providin’ more proof of the evil ickiness that is pumpkin. Also, hope poor Tisiphone is better soon.
Ok, need to check on macaroni and cake. MMMMM… mac 'n cake!
Secondly, here’s a little social nicety tip for all: a conversation is a two-way thing. Each person gets a chance to talk. If one person is just saying stuff like “wow” and “oh, really?” and “no kidding…” chances are you’re not having a conversation. So think about how much you’re talking and consider asking the other person a question and allowing time for an answer, listening to that answer, and not re-hijacking the “conversation.”
Yeah, my lunch meeting with former work associate wasn’t all that great. He’s nice enough, and he’s gotten to do some interesting things all over the world, but so have I, as he might have learned if he’d paused occasionally. On the other hand, he picked up the check, so there’s that… Anyway, I’m back home.
Mac 'n cake is certainly an interesting mental image…
Coffee is supposed to go in me, not on me. I had about half a mug left, and I didn’t have a good grip (I don’t use the handle - too plebian) and fumbled the thing and covered my top in coffee. sheesh.
