It’s 11 American here.
I has a blurf
16F according to my car’s thermometer this Ay-Em; but no precipitation in the forecast yet, which is good since as bad as Pennsylvania or Merry-Land drivers might be, they do not compare to Alabama drivers when it comes to snow…terrible, they is.
Fortunately, we usually see 1’2" of snow for the winter, so just have to worry about the usual idiots.
73 Work Days and counting…
MetalMouse - We had a wee bit of snow once when we lived in Jacksonville, FL. The body shops around town did a lot of business!! And that was just based on morning driving - it had all melted by noon…
Brrrrrrrrrr!
Tis a balmy 13○ in the greater Nashville area this morning. TWPTB are calling for snow tomorrow. And while Pennsylvania and Merrylande drivers may ba a bit bad on the stuff, like Alabammy drivers, Tennesseans truly suck at snow.
I’m off this morning for a regularly scheduled retinopathist appointment. Then it’s back to the sallt mines.

I still remember about 2-3 years ago, we had an unprecedented 9" of snow. I went out driving about 1PM (I learned to drive in the Northern Ohio snow belt, where 9" is a light dusting) and you’d have sworn the Zombie apocolypse had begun; nothing was moving, no one in sight…
Finished a meeting where I was exhorted to expedite a project; while at the same time it was made clear I couldn’t move the project forward until someone else had coordinated, lest they disapproved and make us have the project returned…
Oh joy.
Its shot all the way up to an unexpected 22 but thats mostly due to the bright sunshine.
Beloved Brother has the same kind of advantage around Jacksonville. Most of the people around him are born and bred south and coming from the PA mountains he still has his skill-set. He went out in one storm a couple years back just to do spins and things that would usually get him a ticket just because he could get away with it.
(Well, we are from the same gene pool even if he did get the majority from mothers side in terms of nurture
)
It was a cool 58F this morning but I am not complaining
At irk of course. Seems like Moanday. We are not too busy yet though.
So I’m home with the sprog. He’s got a sinus infection and the resulting cough is driving him crazy. The doc put him on an antibiotic and a nasal spray, so he’ll be back to his usual PITA self soon.
I’m also finalizing taxes today. There seems to be no good way to do it where one of us doesn’t owe, so it’s a question of who has to pay less and jigger withholding so it won’t happen again next year. Why do taxes have to be so taxing?!
16 here
Up, caffeinated, and disheveled here
TAXES??? :eek::eek::eek:
C’mon…April is so far off! But those who get care less than those who have to give:dubious::dubious:
I thought we were talking mattresses in here
In case: King size and hard as a rock!
Mattress is a king size firm with a memory foam topper. I bought a plush mattress but gave it away after a couple months. Too soft. Expensive mistake that was.
Nah, I have the kind of job that requires me to pay taxes and stuff, as does my husband. But it’s just a question of the loan forgiveness program I’m on and how to maximize it, and taxes are a component of that. Yes, it’s legit; I work for the state government and I’m just taking advantage of a program that’s offered. NBD.
I was in a (historic) salt mine last year. Meh, kind of interesting but I don’t think I’d want to go back.
Of course, it’s warmer underground. than the 14°/ wind chill of 5° that we had here this morning, & I have to go outside at lunch for an appointment.
I got my po’ folks repayment letter from the college loan folks last week. It’s due on the fifth of February.:eek: Fortunately I can submit last year’s tax return because I haven’t even seen a W-2 for this year yet.
Today is my one day of irk this week. I am getting as little accomplished as possible mainly because I’m freezing cold. I threatened to climb inside one of the dryers when I was on break. I still might.
My goal with taxes is always to have withheld +/- $100 of what we owe. I don’t want to write a check, but I don’t want a big refund either. Unfortunately, since I’ve gone back to work, it’s hard to tell what this year will bring.
Speaking of money, I’m going to have to ping on my elected representative to help me deal with OPM. In 2013, I earned in excess of what was permitted for my supplemental pay. So in 2014, they withheld a chunk from each pension check to make up for it. No biggie - I was prepared for that.
HOWEVER, in 2014, I earned pretty much nothing, so in July of 2015, my check was supposed to return to its normal amount. It didn’t. Since October, I have contacted the assorted folks and as instructed, I submitted my W2 from 2014. I haven’t heard anything from them since November - not even an automated email reply. Meanwhile, they owe me in excess of $3K. I sent yet another inquiry last week. No response. So I’m going to print out copies of everything and go to Rep. Hoyer’s office in Waldorf and hope they can light a fire and get me my money. That’s too significant a chunk of change to ignore.
Meanwhile, lunch. This has been a challenging morning, to say the least…
It was ONE degree when I drove to irk. With a MINUS FIVE wind chill. Warmer than yestiddy which was MINUS TWENTY FIVE wind chill.
I have a TempurPedic that is about 8 years old. You will have to pry it out of my cold head hands. Power to the Pedic!
Still got the crud here, which matches the weather - chilly windy gray and rain.
Plenty of new sinkholes, washouts and potholes all over. El Niño is going to give our infrastructure a pounding like it hasn’t had in many years.
Happy Toosday!
It’s a cold, sunny 21 degrees outside.
My phone app keeps changing the forecast.
I have to work with Sah-son on a school issue today. He is being graded on work he hasn’t turned in. He notified the professor who sent back a ‘Lucky You!’, then said he was kidding and would look into it. Anyway, on the professor’s side the grades aren’t showing but on Sah-son’s side they are. Weird too, because the professor had to correct the scores on one of the assignments for the people who had already turned them in. He had marked some answers incorrect by mistake. Sah-son’s score on that assignment went up, but he still hasn’t turned it in - not due yet.
I guess he needs to call tech support for the college? Or maybe wait until he turns his in and see if the grades are fixed? I don’t know what to tell him.
Seems like it is always something around here.
I don’t know if I need an attitude adjustment or not
well, okay I know I do
My son’s math professor would drive me crazy. the constant emails saying now that you have turned in this assignment don’t forget to do this. He calls it hand-holding and that she must really care about her students. I call it back off bitch, I’m a fucking adult and don’t need you hovering over me.
His latest assignment, for a math class, is 20 questions.
Examples - Where do you find the contact information for your instructor? How many times a week have I requested that you minimally enter the MYMATHLAB course? What are the hours of the Learning Support Center? What are the hours of the Academic Testing Center? Which email account will you receive your announcements?
I think she needs to go teach a kindergarten class.
Oh and if you send her an email - it MUST contain a greeting - or she will ignore it.
Everything must be in complete sentences and grammatically correct, even though everything she writes would benefit from the use of a red pen.
I told him - do NOT even mention this class to me anymore. She’s not my professor and I want to smack her.
This is a compressed class and she comes up with time wasting assignments like 20 questions and writing lies in your intro and playing guessing games.
Maybe if you’re 18/19 and fresh out of high school this is normal?
