That 1"-3" gridlocked DC last night: Carmageddon 2. I was lucky and got home in 4 hours.
Some people I work with were still stuck 8 hours after leaving work.
The light snow on 25 degree roads meant the snow fell, voted the roads, melted slightly, then refroze to ice. The heavy traffic prevented salt trucks from getting out.
The various DOTs screwed up by thinking the snow would be too light to worry about.
It was amazing, and hopefully it means it will scare people off the roads on Friday.
And yeah, Mom’s still gonna get 1’-2’ starting Friday.
There were red skies this morning so I’m going to do my annual birthday excursion today instead of tomorrow. I’m going to take myself out for lunch and hit up every downtown bookstore I can get to. Except the highfalutin’ ones that are too fancy for me. I am but a simple redneck gal.
From this post we learn that Mooommm’s commute tooks her thru Winslow, Arizona…& she needs beano.
red skies at morning, sailors take warning
[Sgt. Phil E]Let’s be careful out there[/Sgt Phil E]
Spidey, you are a sick, sick man. Guess that’s why you’re so perfect here.
Yeah, rosie, our slightly less than 1" last night ain’t nothing compared to what we’re being promised tomorrow and Saturday (happy birthday to me ) - current forecast is like **tugig **said 1’-2’ starting after lunch tomorrow. Since I get out at 2:30, I expect to be safely ensconced in my house before it gets bad.
Last thing we need to do is make sure we have a can of gas for the generator, just in case. Because as long as we have it, we won’t need it. Murphy’s law, you know.
I’m now out of work to do again. Dunno where Jason is. This does not bode well…
This important announcement is to remind you that next Wed, Jan 27th is the MOST important day on the Mumper calendar; yes, even more important than Mooommm’s b-day. It’s
I hate weather reports- all I want to know is how much to expect up here.
Why show me pictures of previous snow? I don’t give a damn about what it looked like 2 years ago. Why show me what it looks like in the mid-west? I don’t live there and it has nothing to do with here.
So then I get a headline of ‘Maximum accumulation of 2 feet or more’. Uh - shouldn’t that be minimum accumulation of 2 feet? How does one have a max plus more!!! Max is max, there is no more!
Awake and watching the weather more than usual. We have a meeting scheduled pulling people from several states Saturday. Because of schedules, we can’t reschedule. Because a lot of us are technologically challenged, we can’t do an online meeting. Almost everyone is saying lets go for it but I have to make the final call on it tomorrow. I may just keep a couple coins handy to decide for me.
Lunch time!! I got some work from the engineer sitting next to me, and I learned some new stuff, so yay! I’ve finished 2 of his drawing and started the 3rd, plus Jason showed up (late - had to deal with his daughter and delayed school opening) and he’s left me a couple more things to do. So I shall be gainfully occupied today.
The sun is shining and snow on the roof is melting - I expect the roads are clear also, thanks to their dark surfaces, so that’s good. Maybe 24 hours till the next batch of precip moves in. Meanwhile, I’m having a yummy salad from WaWa.
Been in meetings for the morning, and have my annual physical this afternoon, and I am of the age where it includes those immortal words: "Now, please roll over and pull your legs up to your chest while I slip this rubber glove on…
Otherwise, no snow for North Alabama, but I’ll still get some bread tomorrow (all out).
I got handed a projectthis morning that revealed a comedy of errors. Fortunately, they weren’t from my department. I’ll work on more mundane administrative crap this afternoon.
Ducked out of irk early and came home and have a pot of beef stew cooking. Well, the meat is cooking right now. I’ll add onions, celery, carrots and potatoes in a while. I will also make Cole slaw, rice and cornbread. Good cool weather food.
We are promised 100% chance of rain tomorrow followed by lows in the upper 50’s again but I am not complaining. It warmed back up today to the high 60’s.
Just who do you think you are leaving early & coming home to cook? Swampy? :dubious:
I’ve heard they’re trying to get all of the presidential candidates to spread out over the Mid-Atlantic region & given their stump speeches; this will ensure a rainstorm starting tomorrow as all of that hot air will make it too warm for snow.
Howdy Y’all! One more day survived. Tomorrow is irk from da cave day. YAY! It’s been rainy and ick all day. Tonight and tomorrow promises more. So irk from home sounds like an especially good idea. Sketties 'n meatballs, bag sallit (don’t judge!), and cheesy garlic bread for dindin. I’ll crank all that up when OYKW calls to say he’s on the way.
rosie I cannot imagine bein’ with out a crock pot/slow cooker. Guess that’s why I have so many of 'em.
rosie, even I, who lives by herself, have two slow cookers (a 4 qt. and a 1.5 qt.). However, one does not need a slow cooker to make stew. A slow cooker makes it easier, but any good, heavy dutch oven on a low burner or in a low oven will work.
Highlights include needing a new battery and alternator. If I asked you which of my two cars was more expensive to maintain, the Honda or the BMW, what would you answer?
It’s the Honda. BMW has had no issues and has more miles on it than the Honda. I thought that Honda was the “never has problems” brand. It’s also mind-numbingly boring to drive. And it loses traction all the frickin time in the rain. I actually really dislike the Honda. (What gave it away?)
Yeah, yeah I have a BMW. I drive 4-6 hours a day, so I splurged. I spend more of waking time in my car than I do in my house.
After a week with two major accidents between work and home (Greyhound bus crash Tues, and over-turned fuel tanker on Weds) I had the BEST thing happen this morning on the way in. I carpool. I frequently get extremely irked because people drive in the carpool lanes without actually being a carpool. Today, not 5 minutes after I was bitching about why the Highway Patrol wasn’t handing out tickets, a motorcycle officer pulled in behind me. 3 cars from behind me immediately moved out of the lane. The officer stopped 2 lanes of traffic and pulled all three of them over.
The migraine glasses I mentioned last week (?), or sometime, actually seem to really help at the office. I also get all kinds of compliments, which is kinda funny because they’re a shockingly bright fuschia color.
Tomorrow I irk from home. Yay!
Now I just need to figure out what we’re having for dinner. I mean, after I go to the dentist.
