Begorra! A St. Paddy's Day MMP

No kidding? I spent 3 extremely cold winters in West Lafayette - 76-77, 77-78, 78-79. It was the first time I ever had to drive in snow - talk about your baptism by fire!!

I look forward to the day when I don’t have to wear multiple layers outside and sleep with 2 blankets inside.

Working on music.

Ah, I am familiar with your tale of woe. My boyfriend, RT, is OTR. It sucks. And this worrying about the weather. Yuck, no fun. How long has your husband been driving?

Someday when I get a real job and we figure out where we’re going to live, he’s going to find a local job and maybe go back to school and find a job where he can live like a normal person.

But RT is here now and I’m happy, happy, happy!!

(Let’s not discuss that I have to drop him off tonight because there’ll be no time to do so in the morning before I go to work…)

There it is Doggio. When I first walked in I thought the room was unfinished and needed sheet rock. Nope, I think it’s supposed to be decoration.
I like the stone wall and the second story porch. The back yard goes way beyond the fence. The kitchen is nice.
What I don’t like is the stairs to the second floor they are closed in by walls on both sides, maybe if I took the wall out and opened them up on one side I would like them better. The floors upstairs are a little uneven, the house is over 100 years old. All the really cool old house features are gone though. You have to go outside to go to the basement, which is a pain in the ass if your furnace goes up in the middle of winter, been there and done that already.
The other cool thing is that it is catacorner across the main road from a bright yellow house with bight purple shutters. That’s an easy landmark to use as directions - you can’t miss it.

I know what you are saying** FCM** and that is where I am having trouble, seeing through the ugly to what it could be. I can’t add yard to the perfect house, I can fix the house with the good yard. I got spoiled by the one I really wanted last year that was pristine move in condition, I wouldn’t have had to do a thing with it. I want to hear back from the mortgage guy about the HomePath one. I like it better as a house, the neighborhood is good and I’ll have the money to fix it the way I want it.

It’s too bad you don’t live on this side of the country, sari. We’re in the process of fixing up my MiL’s house to sell. Nothing too extreme, enough to make it presentable and sellable. Painters should be coming sometime this week. It’s been quite a journey.

Nona, my husband was an OTR truck driver for a few years. He works for the same company, but switched to being a local driver. I have to say, I got used to him being gone, but I missed him all the time. He’d be gone for weeks at a time, and I too, worried when weather conditions were bad.

My son is coming home for spring break. Can’t wait to see him. It’ll be a busy week between car shopping, dealing with MiL’s house, and work.

Howdy Y’all! Home from deheathenization. We swiped the General’s N.O.L. 'Twas good. OYKW has decided to go take a nap and then decide whether or not he wants to head to his place or just stay at da cave. ‘Tis stormy out. Big time stormy. Lots o’ rain and tboomers. I’m all sniffly and sneezy. I foresee Benedryl[sup]TM[/sup] and a nappy poo in the near future. This is a good afternoon for that.

Sari it is indeed Sunday. :smack:

Nettie indeed the dreaded [del]shingles[/del] cookies did show up last night. I saw ‘em again this mornin’. I think they multiplied overnight.

Ok, ‘tis really gettin’ stormy out. Definitely sleepy time.

Laterz!

**sari **- as stupid as those “beams” in the dining room are, that’s a fairly easy fix, as long as you can get them down without totally destroying the sheetrock. Altho if it’s plaster, that’s outside my experience. With sheetrock, you patch the nail holes, sand it all smooth, and paint. Done. Personally, I like that house better than the duplex, but having grown up an a row house, I much prefer stand-alone to attached. Hope you can work out one of the other soonest!!

It’s staying cold and mostly overcast. The precip is still a few hours away, but it’s still coming. ugh. I am not amused.

Good evening, mumpers! It’s been a beautiful weekend over this side of the pond and I have been making the most of it. Yesterday was errands and stuff in town, then an awesome evening at the Steel Panther gig - I am so rock 'n roll, I was home by midnight tucked up in bed with a cup of tea.

Today I have been productive - sheets have been washed and dried outside on the line, the borders on the drive have all been weeded, veggies have been roasted for lunches later in the week, ironing has been done, bread has been made, and now there is a yummy brisket slow-roasting in the oven driving poor Shadow to distraction as he can smell something nice but he can’t see it or have any of it yet. I’m running a bath now, I think I deserve it after all that effort, don’t you?

Odd tale of the weekend - I lost a lens from my glasses so I took them to the opticians to get them fixed yesterday. They told me it would cost £80 to reglaze my existing specs, but I could have a complete new pair with custom-made lenses for £25…well, I think you can guess which one I decided on!

Thanks, rosie

FCM, you were around here during the blizzard of '79, then? That one was a doozy for this part of the country.

Sticks and Scones, yeah. It’s not easy, sometimes. Especially today, because it’s my birthday, and my husband isn’t here. So, no celebrating for me, I guess. I’m just sitting here at home, being all mopey and stabby. Feeling sorry for myself, pretty much.
My husband has been OTR for no less than 25 years. We’ve been married nearly 30 years. I should be used to it, but sometimes…

Taters, I worry about my husband, too. But, I know that he will stop, if conditions are bad. He knows his limits, and knows he’s mortal. He always says that his life is WAY more important than getting a load to its destination on time.
I wish he could get a local job, but the pay isn’t very good for local driving jobs in this area.

It was indeed glorious sunshine today- I spent the day in the park, wearin’ a T-shirt! Plus pants, but still, didn’t need a jacket! I even had an ice cream, but that maybe was a little optimistic.

T’was a juggling club meet up, and I think I’m now actually getting the hang of pass juggling, at least the basic 4-count. Soon I shall be merely quite bad at this, rather than awful

Anyhow, takeaway has been ordered, trying a new Indian place, so I wait with interest.

Today was a day full of failures, but maybe better times will come.

Well, why didn’t you tell us??

Happy birthday, Ace!!

Twenty five years is a long time. RT has been driving for about 18, I think, but I’ve only known him less than one year. I have to say, though, my communication skills have certainly improved because of this relationship.

And I didn’t know/remember that Mr. Taters was a truck driver as well.

Right now I’m just surfing the Dope and RT is playing a video game on his computer.

Aw, thank you, Sticks and Scones!

You know, the good thing about being the spouse of an OTR driver, is that you get the privilege of learning to do all sorts of things, all on your own! Such as changing water heater elements, changing the fuel filter on your vehicle, and a myriad of other stuff you never thought about doing, yourself!

Yeah. I’m being sarcastic.
But, you do learn how to do stuff, whether you want to, or not! :dubious:

Ace, I’m a recovering Hoosier muhself. Rode out the Blizzard of 78 in Goshen, up nawth. Moved east after 20 years in Naptown.

Happy bithday. are you 29 yet?

Howdy from Northampton Mass Mumpers

Hippo Birdies Ace

Have a hot minute before load in and I just wanted to say hi.

Cheers all.

Effing cold, ready to head South

Jim

Happy Ace Day!!!

I don’t recall exactly which blizzard came when, but I do remember Purdue actually canceling classes 2 different times due to wind chills in the -80° range. I’d love to see how the campus has changed since those days, but there’s no way I’d want to go back to college. It was not my favorite 3.5 years.

Corned beef is simmering on the stove - I just tossed in some veggies. In a bit, I’ll peel some N.O.T.s and add them to the mix, then finish with some cabbage wedges, altho I may cook those in the liquid after taking the beef and other veggies out. I’s stavink!! We had a good breakfast, but no lunch. With luck, we’ll be eating within an hour.

No snow yet, but the temp has been stuck in the low 40s and it’s dreary. Can precip be far behind?

I is having my attire issues this week. :frowning:
Went to gym, for a run, then shower get dressed into normal clothes/civies & onto other things. Never grabbed the after socks & unders from the drawer to throw into the bag. :smack:
That left me to either wear the old ones or make like an Ahhhhnold movie.

Happy Birthday Ace!

What makes you think it’s warmer any further south Capt?

Taters if the house is in CA it probably is out of my price range.

OAOASO is a trucker too, but he does local. It’s still a PITA because he still travels quite a bit although his latest job has been more normal.
His last truck, I was ready to turn his boss in. He had no heat and was running a propane heater in the cab when he had to sleep in the truck. He never knew for sure when he’d get his check because the owner drove as well so if the owner was out of town on payday he’d have to wait for the him to get back. That boss still owes me money for an oil filter and fuel filter. One day when OAOASO broke down I had to go get him and run him for the parts because the parts store ‘wouldn’t take credit cards’. Funny, because they took my credit card.

Now he works for a nice normal company with nice trucks and gets paid direct deposit every Friday.

FCM I think the quick fix would be to paint over the boards. Then worry later about what is behind them and get them down. It’s a good point about individual vs. single, although I’m thinking it’s probably cheaper to heat a duplex and I like brick and stone better than siding.

Well, crap. See? I’m already showing my age! I’m 52 years old, as of today. Mind mind is already shot. It was the Blizzard of '78. NOT '79.

Deity help me. I’m doomed.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes.

oh geez

To make matters worse a house I looked at previously just came down another $10.000 in price. I thought it was too much before, now it is more at what I am willing to pay.
I think it will be the one.
