Big Brother Live Feeds And After Dark

We just ran it back, and this is her exact quote:

“I specifically asked before I came on the show if I could destroy cigarettes, and they said yes.”

As I understand the scheme, they see it as an easy way to string out Jam, Jen, and Amber – with Amber HoH on Jen’s elimination week, she couldn’t compete the following week. And then it’s final five. This plan has the fatal flaw, of course, in that it must last over several weeks, which never happens. (There is probably a double-elimination week soon, due to the scheduling for the ending week.)

Jen’s certainly been the target of lots of paranoia in the house. Remember when everyone thought she threw a veto to Jameka because Jam had said it was God’s will for her to take Jen off if she won? And how Jen just stumbled into that? These houseguests have never heard of Hanlon’s Razor.

I still don’t understand why Jen didn’t just say “Yeah, I threw it. It’s called strategy, deal with it. If she didn’t want to use the veto, she shouldn’t have told me that she would.”

Every time I see Dick go off on someone for being a liar, I just want them to reply with “Well, yeah. What show are YOU on?”

And seeing an abuser act in real time is extremely …disturbing. He goes so much further beyond what’s necessary that it’s not even funny.

Poor Amber. Her faith was shaken because she lost a POV comp. Never mind tsunamis or wars or the Holocaust. Never mind children being abducted and raped and murdered. Never mind bridge collapses or the genocide in the Sudan or childhood leukemia. None of that shakes her faith. Her inexplicable loss of a meaningless competition on a summer reality show (even though she had a VISION and everything), that shakes her faith. It’s a whole new formulation of the classical Problem of Evil: If God exists, then why do mildly inconvenient things happen to Amber?

And to think that I once thought Jen was the narcissistic one because she cried over a bad picture. Jen is a piker compared to Amber.

I loved how quickly broke all her promises to Jameka about what kind of deal she would be willing to make with the D’s, up to and including swearing on her kid again and totally selling out Jameka (or should I say “selling her under the bus,” in keeping Dick’s fractured phraseology).

It was an easy assignment to make Eric give the “wubby” to Jessica (it would have been hilarious to see him try to give it to Dick), but hopefully he’ll be made to earn his keep by having to hustle to keep Jen after tonight’s AP vote. He’s got absolutely no one to to blame a wonky vote on this time.

The BB8 forums are saying the penalty nomination has been rescinded. Instead, it will be 1 extra penalty vote for Jen. So, now everyone is switching from Jameka back to Jen. Looks like the backdoor season continues.

So does BB actually HAVE a written rule about chetaing on slop or are they just making up penalties out of their ass as they go along?

I guess there’s no way to save Jen now. If Eric only had to flip Jessica and Zach I thought she might have a chance. Now he’d have to flip Waamber too.

It looks like America’s puppet might end up with his balls hanging out again thursday night. He’s probably going to have to say it was a sympathy vote or something.

Take heart. That means she’ll be coming to your side soon.

Confirmed. The reasoning given was that a penalty nom would affect the game. The hell? And a penalty vote won’t? Well, I guess in this case it won’t.

Fucking Showtime cut out just as Eric was starting to tell Daniele and Amber about the Jen thing. Live Feeds report that Eric finished the tale, with Dick allowing him to do most of the talking. Jessica became a bit upset at Eric when he continued to taunt Jen as she went back in the house. Everyone had pretty much put her on full shun, and in fact neither the Live Feeds nor Showtime showed a single frame of Jen until just as Daniel and Amber were coming back.

Jen cornered Amber and plied her back to her side, pretty much spilling her guts about everything she’s ever heard Dick, Eric, or Daniele say about her. Jen is apparently trying to form a new desperation alliance with Amber and Jameka, hoping to rope Zach in as well. Unfortunately for her, the numbers still aren’t there. Amber relays everything to Jameka, and tells her that if she gets HOH, she’ll put up Dick and Eric, subbing Zach or Jess if she is vetoed.

That’s it. Pretty boring night.

Guess I should also report that Amber and Daniele weren’t allowed to give any details about their trip. The HGs still don’t know that they were on the Power of 10 show.

I got a bad case of the giggles during last night’s show when Amber was crying about Jameka going out of the POV competition and said something to the effect of, “That’s just me, thinking of others ahead of myself again.” Funny stuff. Almost as funny as Amber thinking she’s going to go on America’s Next Top Model.

I think it’s dumb that Big Brother is suddenly changing the rules regarding the slop penalty nom. Of course a penalty nom is going to change the game. Isn’t that kind of the point?

The penalty nomination would’ve set in motion a sequence of events that would make the next 3 episodes boring:

  1. Jameka gets voted out this week
  2. They throw HOH to Amber (provided Jen doesn’t win) and Jen is voted out
  3. Because Amber cannot repeat HOH, she is voted out

p.s. Does anyone know when the Power of 10 episode will air?

I kind of expect it to air tonight at 8pm(Eastern), because that’s when the next Power of 10 episodes is due to air, but if they actually said so, I didn’t hear it.

A double elimination week may have made this seemingly boring scenario veryinteresting…

So is there any consequence for Jen destroying Dick’s cigarettes? Or the slapping-and-burning fight? Are the producers ruling that the most egregious behavior this week was Jen eating food instead of slop?

I’m right there with you, WindFish. As a liberal, destruction of someone else’s property is right at the top of my no-no list. It’s too bad he can’t bring criminal charges against her. The whole ridiculous “they said I could destroy people’s stuff” thing may be true after all.

(I’m honored that you posted in my thread. Fifty-one posts in six years, wow.)

There was apparently no rule against Jen destroying Dick’s cigarettes. She obtained permission beforehand. She’s destroyed individual packs before with no repercussions (and without Dick even noticing, as far as I know).

I guess it’s also fine to threaten to rape and murder people, harrass them endlessly, steal their clothes, throw away their food and burn them with cigarettes. Eat a turkey burger, thogh, and you’re a “cheater” who “doesn’t respect the integrity of the game” (Eric’s line – that’s a laugher for you) and you get a “penalty vote.”

I saw earlier that NOW is going after BB for allowing the abuse against Jen. I think the poor kid is going to have PTSD when she finally gets out of that place.

How about criminal charges against Dick for threatening to rape and murder people? I don’t give a shit about some cigarettes. They weren’t even really “his” – they were supplied by BB, so Jen’s destruction of them is no different than Dick throwing out her food.
The clothes he stole from Jen actually are her own property. How do you feel about theft?

Reprehensible, given that he didn’t return them when he got his cigarettes back. Retaliatory force is fine, but when you’re made whole, it’s over.

Dick has said that he brought his own cigarettes to the house. Unless he is lying, they belong to him. And even if someone gave him his cigarettes after he arrived, the act of giving transfers ownership. If I give you something, it’s no longer mine.

The NOW thing, though — there just aren’t enough roll-eyes.

Actually, on the first episode, Dick was shown packing a boatload of cigarettes in his bag before leaving for the BB house, so the cigs were his after all.

I’m curious about exactly what the rule book does say about all the things that have gone on over the last couple of days. And the reason I’m curious is that, technically, BB is a game show . Game show rules are supposed to be strictly regulated (a holdover from the quiz show scandals); you can’t just change the rules as you go along to make the show more interesting. What is the actual written penalty for eating regular food when you’re supposed to be on slop? How about physical assault? In Jen’s case, we’ve gone from possible disqualification to “penalty nomination” to a “penalty vote”. Which is it?

Eric’s statement about the “integrity of the game” therefore actually has some merit. The contestants don’t have to have integrity; in fact, sacrificing that integrity has proven to keep contestants in the house longer. But the game itself must have integrity.

As far as Dick goes: yes, he’s said terrible things to and about people in the house. But until he acts upon them, there’s really nothing that can be done. This is how he’s chosen to play the game; after 50 days, the HGs know this by now. So far, they’ve kept him in the house and the viewers haven’t put him up for eviction once. Did he goad Jen into attacking him? Probably. Did she take the bait? Yes. Dick 1, Jen 0.

I agree with the gist of your post, and I wonder too about what the rules really say. But I do think the score is 1 - 1. The iced tea incident was, in my opinion, an assault.

Don’t know about the Pof10, but you’re very insightful with respect to the game. One blogger thinks your scenario is the reasoning behind recension of the penalty nom. In other words, it wouldn’t be fair to Amber and Jameka for the producers to assist the DDEJ alliance.
