I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who is spoiler-boxing HP5 - please keep doing so! I haven’t seen it yet and wouldn’t want to accidentally run into spoilers.
Unless something unexpected happens, I’m moving in the next three or so weeks, to Idaho! I have an aunt there (in Ketchum, near Sun Valley) who grooms dogs and is willing to take me on and teach me. It’s a hell of a long way to go, but I’ve moved that far before. And the mountains are going to be amazing.
So, not wanting to drag my four-year-old desktop (which works fine, but it’s getting old) across the country, I’ve got a nice new little 'puter coming. I can’t wait for it to get here!
aw, you shoulda gotten an iBook.
Right. So, yeah. Caffeine infused. Cake made. Candles lit. Birthday wishes given. So far, so good. The local heat wave has passed for the moment, so it’s quite comfortable inside and out, now.
Rebo - I am not clickin’ that link, thank you. I would like to keep the evil outside. Anyone with a mighty constitution who wants to understand whereof I speak on this matter however can hear for themselves what I am up against. Thanks for the compliment, too.
Heff&Roo - Oh, I am certain I will be victorious in the end. Evil never triumphs! Not even reality TV!
Rosie - Thankya! (You too, Those blocks are part of the PC character set. (I don’t know if Macs can see them) Hold ALT while typing 219 on the numeric keypad, then let go of ALT. Mister █ Block will appear.
You can get to all sorts of nifty characters that way, including all the international accented characters, without having to open up the Windows character map.
Nava - I read an article yesterday about the guy who got his butt gored at the Pamplona run. I know it’s no laughing matter, but (hehe, butt) I mean, really, wounds to the glutius maximus always evoke a sophomoric chuckle. Sounds like it’s been a busy day for the EMTs there, and not so good a day for some of the runners. Ouch! That, uh … creative bit of Spanish, is that intended as an insult? Because it’s a good one, if I’m translating it right!
I’m a tough girl. I’ll listen at home (can’t listen over Citrix).
Am I the only one who feels that whoever participates in such a dumb sport deserves it? No offense whatsoever to you, of course, Nava, I mean I know you didn’t invent it. And the commentary is interesting. But I can’t help but feel it’s rather idiotic to run ahead of or to bait a several hundred pound angry bull.
Morning, all. I’m lazily caffeinating, which considering I’ve got some rush work coming out by messenger is probably a good idea at this point.
Happy birthday!
to all the burfday kids!
What a scare with baby Noor, Dotty! I’m glad things are settling down, and good wishes coming your way for her complete recovery from everything! And that picture in the pool is SO precious – I love that little suit she has on! What a great idea, to keep the baby protected from the sun yet able to enjoy the water!
Rebo, I will not click on that link, thankyouverymuch! I hear that hideous song about one day in three as it is anyway, so why would I voluntarily submit myself to further Tortures of the Damned?
Thanks for today’s culture and injury report, Nava. Sounds like it was a bad day for the runners. Who, granted, have asked for it, but nevertheless.
Here’s hoping everyone recovers from their injuries!
And it sounds like pues is the Pamplonan equivalent of the Canadian eh!
Don’t have too much fun today, kiddies!
yawn.
Hey everyone. I stayed up late last night, decided I needed to use a personal day today and slept until 9.
When I was learning Spanish, ages ago, our lecturer drilled into us NEVER to say ‘um’ in oral exams, but we could feel free to to drag ‘pues’ out as long as we needed. It was handy, although occasionally we’d just slur them together. I still use it from time to time, although Spanish has fallen out of my brain completely, alas.
Glad **Noor **is doing well, Dotty. What an awful scare!
Happy Birthday, rigs!!
Things kinda went to hell in a handbasket here at work. Partly my fault for not checking on something, but also partly someone else’s fault for not following through on a request I made. So now I’m waiting for boss to go with me to “talk” to that other person. Meaning to chew them out a bit. I don’t really want to do that! But we do have to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future. Bah.
Overcaffinated here. Well, not so much too much caffeine as too much tea leading to too much peeing!

I’M BACK!!!
Y’all missed me, right? :::crickets:::
HAPPY BIRFDAY RIGS!
I have skimmed the MMP. Appropriate ooos, ahhs, too bads, good lucks, and sorries, where appropriate.
I have two brothers, a sister, a boy cousin and a girl cousin who all share May 26 as their birthday. Plus they were all born in the same duplex house. Nuff said.
I were at the beach this week. It was just tooooooo f*@%ing hot. I am glad to be home. I missed Mr. Anachi and the dawgs.
While I was there that horrible plane crash in Sanford, Florida, happened. That’s just the next town over from where I live. So sad. Tell ya what, though. No way in Hades I’d live in a develpment where the houses were that close together. :::shudder:::
Tupug
Welcome back Pugs - didja get a nice tan?
Thanks, rosey! I was wearing SPF 30 but you would say I’m toasty.
Gah and oh my and oy. I am kind of shaking over here. The Comcast guys came (very nice, btw) to switch over our cable, puter and phone. Not only could I not get to you all, I had no internet, and no wireless and they were here for HOURS and kept scratching their heads and saying stuff like, “we don’t like to register stuff on Macs-they don’t take to this stuff.” and “well, your phone is working, but your Mac only works if it’s connected by cable to the modem.”
I am literally upset about this. I have wireless now, but I’ve lost my Firefox, which means all my school stuff/passwords/shortcuts. And I have to go to work NOW, so I can’t play around with it, which is useless anyway, since I know dick about computers/internet etc.
God, I hate being an anxious person–I seriously am going spastic over here.
<deep calming breath>
hope shelving books calms me down. I need to frost my cake.
~~ Happy Birthday, Rigs ~~
Must go shower and have coffee. Will return with coherence.
Hi all - Noor is now asleep for the night (it’s just after 7pm here now), and hubbie is out with his mates having coffee, so I am freeeeeee!!!
Thanks all for the kind thoughts and prayers - sometimes, I just get this, “this should only happen to other people” thing going on and it helps to talk it through and realise that we’re doing alright!
Mama T, Noor’s little sun suit is fantastic, especially here in the eternal sunshiney, hot weather - it means I only have to put sunscreen on her face, hands and feet. It also has a matching legionnaire’s cap (with the flap over the neck and ears). I bought the suit from BHS (British Home Stores) but they should have them in the States. Aaand, she does look so cute in it!
rigs, I can’t imagine having someone mess my PC up and leave me in such a state. Send 'em over here and I’ll slap their wrists!
Anyhoo, off to think about dinner - maybe I can reheat yesterday’s chicken ball stroganoff and cook some tagliatelle to go with it. YUM!
Eek… You’re causing acid flashbacks to menu graphics on an IBM PC* running at a then-splendid 4.77 MHz.
- Yes kids, the actual name of the thing was the IBM PC, followed by the IBM PC XT and IBM PC AT, which ran at an unheard-of 12 MHz.
so how’s this for craptastic? I got a letter from the hospital that the insurence company has still not (2 months after the fact) paid my $41K++ tab for my stay in rehab. How grrrrr is that? I called the ins co and they assured me there was no further paperwork I needed to fill out, no further indignities I need to subject myself to - it’s pending. It’s *been * pending for two months! The hospital has called them a few times as well. this kind of headache I really don’t need.
That’s SOP, Rosie. I kept getting bills for a whole year after my stay in the hospital. Just call the insurance company every time you get one, (or save a few up!) and make sure they are aware.
I actually received a bill TWO YEARS later, because I had mistakenly given them my old insurance card. So it got straightened out back then, but when they went through their files to clean them out, they found this one bad bill that had not been paid (or cross-referenced either.)
It sucks, but it’s normal.
Well, I survived the beach.
Actually, it was a lot of fun. I pretty much had to grab Twin #2 by the hair at 9:30 PM and tell her “we’re going home. Now.” Always a good sign.
Only had one glass of beer. I don’t even know what kind it was – but it was the darkest one on the tray.
Waiting for the twins to finish showering so I can.
I may even read the intervening 30-40 posts, later… Meanwhile have a good afternoon, all you Americans!
