Hi all! Saturday is my “day off” from mothering duties - hubbie takes care of Noor for the day while I have lunch with the girls.
Today was “Spa Day”! They recently opened the Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort here and are offering a special Summer Indulgence package at the Spa - US$105 (including tax) for a 90 minute hydro-massage session followed by a 3-course lunch in the Spa restaurant, called Tamarind. The hydro-massage session was wonderful - shower first, then steamroom, followed by a couple of different hot and cold rainmist and massaging showers. Then a divine jacuzzi foot-bath, followed by more hot and cold massaging showers. A bout in the sauna, finished off with a round of the hydro-therapy pool (back, arm, butt and foot-directed jets, as well as a pause in the middle for fresh slices of pineapple with white tea, sweetened with honey. Sigh …
I really did not want it to end!
Unfortunately, the lunch wasn’t quite up to the same standard. The entree I chose was called “Vegetable Moussaka”, so I was expecting something resembling moussaka. What I got a pile of raw, slightly warmed tomato, interwoven with some slices of chargrilled courgettes (zucchini) and roasted aubergine (eggplant), sitting on a small piece of wholemeal toast, bathed in a warm tomato sauce. The pile of veges was topped with a withered clove of roasted garlic, a 1/2 teaspoon size blob of what I presume was supposed to be bechamel/white sauce, and a slightly charred curl of what looked like leftover carrot peelings. Blech!!! At least the main course of tiger prawns on a bed of white bean mash was more palatable. The dessert of flourless chocolate cake was fortunately very tasty, although it was served with a small spoonful of what looked like mashed peas and cubed carrots. Turned out to be Green Tea Sorbet over papaya salad!
All in all, an interesting day!!! Next time, I will stick to the spa treatments and skip the bodgy healthy choice spa food!
FCM, I went though a series of really BAD choices of men when I was in my early 20’s, the worst of which was a 30-something guy with a criminal record and a dubious sexual past (none of which I was aware of at the time). He eventually dumped me for a 17-year old boy. But that’s another story.
I had another boyfriend who I kind of got engaged to when I was about 22. He was a casino croupier (I was working at the casino as a bartender while I was at Uni), but his true aim in life (I kid you not) was to save the world (he wasn’t sure how, but he just knew it was his destiny - maybe it had something to do with his Mormon upbringing!). I just think he spent too much time reading fantasy novels! 12 years on, he is still a casino croupier, but is now fat and bald and working on a cruise ship.
I would suggest that you tell your daughter what you think, but then respect her intellect and common sense enough to stand back and let her make her own decisions. That’s what my parents did, and I realised sooner rather than later (fortunately) that hitching my wagon to a loser was not the best way to get ahead in life!
