Board performance problems

I would think that if there was news Jerry would give it to you.

The rest of the staff has had no updates.

Dude, this post made me tired and I’m not even a mod. Chill it down a few notches, bro.

Of course, since I posted that I’ve had no trouble getting in.
So there. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still getting the search error thing. Is it just me?

I’ve gotten the 88/89 second error a couple of times but nowhere near the magnitude of before.

Ditto.

Let’s try to clarify here: when you say “search error” what does that mean exactly?

First, this is with the vBulletin search engine, correct? Or also searching via Google?

If you do a vB search and you get it and then you do another vB search and you get the message, it’s not an error. That delay was put into the system intentionally because if it was not there the system would crash all the time just from doing searches. It’s a problem in the vBulletin architecture and the size of our board and that’s the best fix we could come up with.

If it’s happening regardless of the search engine then it is indeed another kind of problem.

Sometimes the vBulletin search engine returns the notice You must wait 89 seconds for a new search. Sometimes 88 seconds.
It is always well past the 2 minute limit and was happening several times in a row.
It is greatly reduced at this point.

No, the thing it was doing before it’s still doing - I haven’t done any searches at all, and then I do one and it says I have to wait 88 seconds.

Okay that’s still a problem.

Sorry about that.

Jerry said the immediate action would not fix everything and obviously he was right.

Hope this resolves as soon as possible.

The last visited time is still getting reset. Just happened to me again now.

A couple of problems popping up for me tonight. It’s taking a couple of minutes once I click on a thread for it to open. And oddly, some but not all threads I look at will still be marked Unread despite no new posts having been made to them by anyone.

Anonymous,

I have been reading about all these problems with SDMB performance.
I have not noticed any problems, probably because I use legacy hardware
and software.

Nobody has blocked me, and I have had to re-register at times because of
my own mistakes in navigating the website.

I want the moderators to know I have total respect for them because they
use a lot of their own time and energy processing hundreds of posts per day
per moderator. I get a free lunch with every call to SDMB because volunteers
are out there maintaining law and order in the SD system.

[ul]
[li]There is no free lunch.[/li][li]Law possibly.[/li][li]Order? Seriously?[/li][/ul]

I’m the law in this town.

And Im the order!

No, no, no. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette with a side of hash browns. I don’t want to eat you.

Well, if your in an appeasing mood, why don’t you do us all a favor and stop pressing enter at the end of lines? Just use two presses to make a paragraph? Like this:

The way you do it makes your posts look like poetry or something.

Pssst…BigT…Some people like to compose their posts in a word processor, then copy & paste to the board. Sometimes this preserves the soft CRLF and makes it a hard one.

But I agree, it’s unnecessary.

Just to report in case it’s useful: It’s been working close to perfectly for days, but then tonight I’m getting that 87- or 88-minute message on Searches. It seems always to be one of those two numbers.
