Aww, flattery…cuteness However, I’m not working there anymore, so I vouch for nothing. But if you see a tall guy with a big red hat on, and he’s rude to you, just smack him, tell him Pam gave you permission.
Stephen, your dreams may just have to be haunted for another summer…it doesnt look like I’ll be able to make it to this one either. I promise hon, we’ll get together sometime…maybe a weekday lunchtime thing somewhere?
Son of a whore. I can’t make it on the eighth. I could on the sixth, I can’t tell if everyone decided on a definite date yet . . . .
The 8th is no good. I’ve been invited to head up to a lake with a couple of beautiful women and some good friends on Saturday night. I guess the only difference will be the lake! I just can’t pass it up. There is a condo with a hot tub involved as well as speed boats and barbecues. I haven’t gotten any water sports in so far this year, and drinking and playing on a lake is always a great time.
So if you guys pick the evening of the 6th, I’m in. Otherwise I’ll catch the next one. New York Dopers were doing a get together every other Thursday for a while. Perhaps you Boston cats could step it up a notch and do this every month??? Just an idea.
By the way, I was at the Yankee/Red Sox game yesterday here in New York. Damn the sox were looking good. Is Ricky Henderson gonna be OK? He looked hurt pretty bad when it happened. He couldn’t even walk. Still, what a catch. There was something wierd about a guy not being able to walk and all the while the whole stadium sang “Y-M-C-A” like nothing was wrong. It makes me wonder what they would play if someone died. Maybe a little “Livin’ La Veda Loca”.
I would love to hang out with Boston Dopers more, that’s why I called this a “non-dopefest gathering”! I think it’d be neat to have a doper day once a month or something where we all get together and do something. Really, there’s enough New England dopers to make it worth our while. IMO. And the two times I’ve gotten together with people have been some great evenings. Of course, Dopers make the best conversation!
The 6th is a Thursday, though… not good for heavy drinking or late night chatting. Just sayin’… if you’re up in the area I ain’t turning you away or anything, but please don’t go out of your way. In general, I am available every weekend. All I do is play video games and eat pizza on the weekends, so there you go.
By the way… I meant to say “oldies”, not “onlies”. Hmph.
Hey, I’m up for late night heavy drinking and chatting on the 6th as well. I generally fit that in just about every Wednesday and/or Thursday. I’d probably have to come straight from work, so I’d be all grubby and icky, so I’d prefer somewhere that doesn’t require a jacket and tie or anything. I really wouldn’t mind this option, as I might have an excuse to get out of town over the weekend, and fitting in a doper gathering and that would be cool.
It’s looking like I also won’t be able to make it on the 8th … sigh. But the once-a-month idea (or similar) is a good one.
I know those concerts tend to get pretty crowded, but they’re usually pretty good. Get there early (like 4:00-ish), unless you don’t mind being way in the back.
Pam, ooh, you noticed me! I feel so lucky. I’m working in downtown Boston these days, and don’t have too much time for lunch during the week (sigh) … but I might be able to work something out. Weekends usually work for me, too…
It figures. Im never in downtown Boston the same time as another doper. I dont remember who it was, but someone moved to New York I believe it was right before I started at South Station. Now that i;m not there anymore, you’re downtown. My luck sucks.
I like the idea of setting up something regular though. Maybe if I have more advance notice, I can plan my life better.
Since no one has taken charge of the affair, I am. We are attending the concert. This is what I will be doing that day.
11AM: meet anyone who needs to be met at Alewife. Take Red line to Park Street, take Green Line to Kenmore Sq. (that’s the Fenway one)
12PM: Have lunch at either Gillian’s or Boston Beer Works. If at the former, shoot pool. If at the latter, shoot the shit.
Wander aimlessly. End up at concert area by Charles/MGH red line stop around the earlier suggested 4-5 PM. Talk more, enjoy the concert (hey, it’s free, right?). Eventually meander to some bar and finish out the night.
I haven’t been following this thread closely – my life’s hectic right now.
Sorry, folks. I’d love to come, but this weekend I have:
a.) wedding anniversary (nine years with Pepper Mill!)
b.) parents visiting (they get to keep MilliCal busy)
c.) College reunion (I’ve been out of college for 25 years? Well, actually a lot less than that. But it’s been twenty five years since I was an undergrad.)
hoping erislover doesn’t slap her silly or something…
Bad weekend. Really bad weekend…today was my first day at a new job, I’m scheduled to work Saturday…gotta help SO finish moving into the new flat in Providence (hi Rasa! I’m going to be a semi-Rhode Islander!)…plus I’ve got an out-of-town friend coming up here with her husband either tomorrow or Saturday (don’t know which day yet).
But…but…but…I can definitely do another weekend if I’ve got enough notice! (I’m off Sundays, btw…)
:looooong heavy sigh because she’s been wanting to meet her fellow Dopers for sooooo very looooong…:
I just found this thread, since I venture into MPSIMS very rarely. I’m in Boston, and although Saturday is probably too short of a notice for me, I’d be up for this sort of thing in the future if we did decide to do it regularly (ie, monthly). It would be nice if we could do it on the cheap, as I’m a broke grad student, but in general it’d be nice to meet some people here in Boston (I’m relatively new to the city) regardless of the circumstances.
Serves you right for calling it a non-dope get together. I suggest a new campaign. One with the word Dope in it.
Reschedule! A new thread! It’ll be huge! Start the monthly dope dinners in Boston. You guys are one of the major cities on the Eastern seaboard. No excuse. A place with cheap drinks is the least you need, and other plans can be implemented as per the ability/desire of those involved. Movies, Museums, Sporting Events, Billiards, and trips to Somerville Lumber can all be done by splinter groups or everybody (budgets permitting). At the least a central cheap bar/restauraunt must be chosen. At an agreed upon time of that day of every month, let it be known that a party under the name of Cecil Adams will arrive. What a grand tradition it shall be.
Well shit, erl, even if we reschedule the non-dopefest due to lack of interest (bastards!), the two of us can still grab lunch, drink beer, and shoot pool tomorrow. I feel that’s the best course of action, lest we anger the gods of lunch, pool, and beer, who are fickle and terrible.
Who will join us for the Ritual of the Preservation of the Light at, say, Gillian’s, as we hold fast the ramparts of human progress against the Outer Dark, and the forces of teetotalism and monotony?
Sounds fine by me, Lux. I hear that it actually is supposed to be a nice day out tomorrow, my pessimism notwithstanding.
DJ, you say it so well, and see my plight as I feel it in my heart. Something will be done. I will plot a new campaign and unleash it on the New England world this weekend, airport security be damned (no, that doesn’t make much sense, I just wanted to damn airport security).
