I always want to like beets (beetroot, as we call it over 'ere); they look so good when they’re growing, they’re such satisfying round pretty coloured things, but they taste like slightly off mud. It’s a shame.
Got bee stuff (should be assembling it now, but it’s too late to go down to the hive now, so I might leave it til tomorrow). I took the long route back and called in at the beach, to go paddling, look at things in rock pools and buy an ice cream. It was really quiet, surprisingly, and easy to keep distance, despite the heat, even before the torrential rain started, 30 seconds after I got back to the car…
I’ve solved a mystery that’s been dogging me for four years! Once in awhile, I’d hear a strange noise. At first it was in the middle of the night, but then it seemed to switch to daytime. It sounded like the world’s largest vacuum cleaner. It’d get fainter and then louder again. This would go on for hours. Nobody seemed to know what I was talking about.
This morning I heard it as I went for a walk. It got louder the farther southeast I got. I was so excited! Finally, I turned a corner, and there it was: the world’s noisiest street sweeper. It really IS like the world’s largest vacuum, and you can hear it from a mile away. Whew. Mystery solved.
A half-hour later, I rounded a corner to find two deer staring at me. So it was an eventful walk.
Then my insurance agent called for my annual check up. Since I only have renters insurance, not much to check on. He sure seemed to want to chat, though.Must be bored.
I like beets. Isn’t it funny how things smell and taste different to different people? I’ve never once smelled or tasted a beet and thought, “Ah, yes, roasted jockstrap,” but thanks to flyboy’s vivid description, I can see why some people dislike them. Also why nobody ate that lovely roasted jockstrap casserole I whipped up.
I like beets, but when they’re leftover, they do taste muddy to me, so I make sure there are no leftovers.
Supper is cooking: 4 chicken legs in the air fryer, 3 pieces of chickie tit in the toaster oven, zucchini and yellow squash and onions cooking in the fry pan, a dozen smallish ears of corn in the stovetop steamer, and broccoli in the electric steamer. I’ve got 5 minutes to kill.
Howdy Y’all! Been mostly a day of sloth at da cave, though I did clean a layer of filth off the back porch, so something productive was accomplished. We have et. OYKW grilled whilst I made fries and got the fixin’s for burgers together. We’ve taken to eatin’ betwixt four and five in the afternoon most days. I like that.
OK, I propose MG then.
Nellie yay for mystery solved!
Beets are nasty. Not as nasty as fart blossoms, but still nasty. OK, I can tolerate beets as a part of sump’n like borscht. The hot kind of borscht, with a big glop of sour cream, that is. The cold version should be outlawed.
Everybody else, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlin’s how YOU doin’s all around as needed.
That is way too many appliances for one meal.
I like things that can be thrown toget
I didn’t get nearly as much done today as I had hoped. Probably because a friend called that I haven’t talked to in a while and we had a lot of catching up to do. Since I haven’t paired my new blue tooth with my phone yet, I had to carry my phone around with me. Hard to get anything done when your hands aren’t free.
I don’t like beets.
They are not as bad as bananas and liver, as in I could eat them without throwing them up, but that isn’t saying much.
I’m not fond of legumes (except peanuts), liver, radishes, or game. I spent nearly all my adult life in Montana and Wyoming. Everybody insisted I’d like venison (“deer meat”), elk, antelope, sage hens, pheasant, etc. the way they fixed it. Sometimes they’d deliberately not tell me the sausage or spaghetti sauce contained game meat, but I could always tell. I wish I DID like it. Wish I liked legumes, too.
Evening all. Finally did get out of the house, ate at Freddy’s steakburgers (I like their burgers, but they let the outer bits get charred, which I don’t like) and did a little shopping at Wal-mart. Then coming home the gas light turned on, so I filled the tank at Kroger to complete my outdoor excursion.
No rain, looks like it all stayed south of me (swampy may be getting a bit damp).
I don’t like the same things that doggio doesn’t like…which tends to unnerve me…
Sari, what’s wrong with bananas? I’ve taken to eating 1-2 a day and rather like them. And rock on…
Midget is now MG. So it shall be written. So it shall be done.
Nellie, yeah, those machines you can hear for miles. And I have a friend in Colorado Springs who posts on FB all the deer that come visit him (quite a few).
Nut, glad you were able to get out some. And miss the rain.
susan (we give you a MMP name yet?), sounds like a pretty active day.
wordy, can’t you get wheat or rye bread instead?
flyboy, it’s amazing how useful a radio in the car is for ignoring unanticipated sounds…
I love beets. I’m a fan of root vegetables in general. Well… vegetables in general, really. And fruits. Beans are only okay and pears are nasty raw/on their own. And now you know my overall opinions on plant-based foods. Oh, although @Sahirrnee reminds me that I’m not a big fan of raw bananas by themselves either.
I slept most of today. Got up around 7:30, showered and otherwise groomed, fell back asleep around 10 and slept til almost 4. Took care of my ferals, washed the dishes, ate some cherries, and now here we are. That was my day.
Next to order some pill pockets for the cat and figure out some solution to… well. The problem is that dressing and undressing in the bathroom for any activity that takes place therein and requires removing some articles of clothing is becoming increasingly difficult. So I have to find some combination of ways I can still do it (like in case I have to use a public restroom) and ways to take care of the clothing issue in my bedroom and still have some modesty on the way to the bathroom.
tell me something I dont know what state you’re in but have you checked to see if your state has something called "in-home supportive services "? or an equivalent of it ? its a program that (believe it or not) Ronald Reagan started when he was governor of California so people would quit dumping disabled and elderly on the county/state because they didn’t have the time or money to take care of them
What it does is for disabled people they can hire someone to help them do stuff like getting dressed cook clean take them to appointments… it’s almost close to having a CNA (in fact a lot of them are ) but it’s covered by the state…originally just relatives were allowed but since a union was formed its anyone who can pass the background check…and it’s up to 13.50 an hour in la county … and you can be approved like up to 4-8 hours a day I think it would help you out tons …
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 93 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We had a bunch of rain with tstorms through the night beginnin’ right at dark. The plan of the day calls for mowage but that will have to wait a while, probably until around ten, if that early. I would very much like to get started before then, but I know 'tis way to wet out. Life is just so full of difficulties! Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.
Dots good luck with the appointment. Think about or make up a list of questions you might have and make the doc listen. Pushy may not be your thing, but sometimes pushy is what gets the job done.
Nellie I’m not fond of venison, but will eat it when offered. I like wild game birds however.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Fell asleep late, so I woke early, of course. I had to waste TWO HOURS lying abed playing stupid games on my tablet till I decided to get up. But I’m now showered and dressed and I ate and once I finish my intrarwebz morning routine, I think I’ll go outside and pull some weeds before it gets stupid hot.
We had lots of thunder last night, but I don’t know if it rained or not. There’s a puddle in the driveway, so I’m guessing rain.
Hot weekend ahead, no big plans so far. I may go to Lowe’s for some herb seeds and appropriate planters and a sack of planting soil. I figure I’ll start with parsley, sweet basil, thyme, and maybe chives. I’ve never grown herbs before, but from what I’ve read, it’s not a big deal.
Home early because nobody showed up today but Lucy, and she always leaves early. Once I found out nobody else was coming, I came home.
I was kind of chilly anyway, it’s 63 degrees outside and I was in shorts and a t-shirt.
Supposed to get up into the mid 80s later today.
I would love to find the person around here who is letting of fire works everynight. One wonders how he would look with a sparkler shoved up his ass.
I’m so glad my two aren’t afraid of the noise.
I woke up at 3:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I forsee a nap later today.
I need to pair the new blue tooth today, I thought I had charged it, I didn’t notice the little plastic sticky over the doohickee that sits on the charger. Now it’s charged and should be ready to pair.
Just as well I’m home early, I have a ton of laundry to do, and some packages coming from da jungle.
I need to call the PO about the one that has been ‘out for delivery’ since Moonday morning at 7:10.
