Brett Favre to the Vikings

I think the Vikes will still be a run-first offense. The addition of Favre just makes it impossible now for opposing defenses to keep stacking the line against Peterson. Favre doesn’t have to throw 40 passes a game, he just has to be able to make defenses pay for selling out to stop the run.

He played fine until he got hurt, but more importantly, he doesn’t have to be the whole offense with the Vikings. He just has to manage the team and force linebackers to have to back up off the line and give Peterson room to run. He’s coming into a situation that suits him very well.

But when has he ever done that? It’s counter to his legend as a gunslinger!

Brett Favre, game manager? Get outta here!

Yep. Watching Favre for the last 15 years it’s become apparent that despite his talent he can not carry a team by himself. And when faced with trying to carry them he forces things and gets himself into trouble. Give him a strong running game and some time in the pocket and he makes you pay for it.

Wanna bet?

I’m not a moron.

Local reports are that Favre is now out on the Vikings practice field at Winter Park, wearing number a number 4 Vikings jersey. I think a pig just flew by my window too.

Just checking. Looking forward to the Pack and the Vikes this year, should be fun.

I think it’s funny how fans get worked into such an angered frenzy by the media while the off-season “will he won’t he” game plays out.
I don’t see Favre worked into a frenzy, or the coaches, or the owner, or the other players. They all know it’s just part of the business and couldn’t care less.
It’s the fans screaming “bum! flip-flopper! trader!”
If you don’t like the off-season antics do yourself a favor and tune out until opening day.

The “frenzy” is exacerbated by the coverage, which tends to be breathless and over-the-top. Favre supposedly decided to quit on July 28, I heard nothing about him between then and yesterday.

Why the hell would Favre be worked into a frenzy? He’s either going to make a lot of money, or sit at home and enjoy all the money he already made. It’s not a situation where he’s going to get worked up, at this point. I do think there were probably some angry talks between Favre and Ted Thompson a year ago. This whole thing was brought on by Favre feeling like he was pushed out the door in Green Bay last year.
And in Minnesota, I do think some of the players have to resent this bullshit. Particularly Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson, who thought they were competing for a chance to start, but had to listen to this stuff throughout training camp and just got the finger from their coach in a big way. The other players can’t be thrilled he skipped camp and that they’ve had to hear about this all summer, but most of them know you don’t talk to the press about this kind of thing. If Favre wins it’ll be forgotten, but if not, it’ll be like the Jets at the end of last year.

Yesterday Rosenfels was going to be a starting QB. I think he probably has a strong opinion on this subject. :stuck_out_tongue:

Now that twit has decided to un-retire again. Now he is a Viking, and they are welcome to everyone’s favorite prima donna.

How many games will he last this time? Three?

Regards,
Shodan

Well, I can think of three million reasons why Sage Rosenfels is going to be just fine sitting on the bench. It’s not like he’s going to be standing on a soup line or anything.

As a Packers fan and Vandy grad I have seen Cutler go to the Bears and Brett go to the Vikings. I am now waiting for the announcement in the paper that my ex-wife is marrying my brother.

We already have a thread going in GR.

No Second Coming, then? - Damn.

All 16. Nobody can kill him. Sadly.

The crazy thing is that he never really ever retired. It’s like me “retiring” right before my vacation, but then getting back into the office as soon as my vacation is over. His consecutive game record is still current. I’d say he has a better than average chance of lasting the whole year, and then “retiring” again…ad nauseum.

The Jets had a real good rushing attack last year. Obviously not Peterson good, but good nevertheless. Favre just isn’t that good anymore, and really Jackson was better last year when he was healthy.

7 to Charles Woodson, 4 to Al Harris.

Absolutely agree with you. When Favre feels like he has to carry the team on his shoulders, that’s when the stupid throws get made.

Still gonna be very weird to see him in purple. Sad.
