Everything is packed and ready to go in the car. FCD took his bro to work and filled the car. Shortly we’ll load the car and head out.
We should get to the hotel around suppertime, and with luck, we’ll sleep well. So ready to be home.

Morning all. Almost all the soccer games have been cancelled, only the 10U tournament is going, so I’ll meet with my girl’s 8U team at noon to distribute praise and goodies and referee at 2:00pm. So I have the morning to myself. 53F now heading for a high of 55F, so fall has definitely arrived.
FCM, safe travels.
OK, need to do some things then some more things before soccer. All y’all take care.
Is shoe repair a dying art? My brother in law retired so I had to find a new shoe repair shop. I took my favorite boots to the guy Gary recommended. He had two tasks: The toes needed to be restitched and the rubber heel pads needed to be replaced. They had the boots for a week. I picked them up yesterday. The stitching looked pretty good and they had nailed plastic cleats on the heel pad at the wear spot. When I got them home I looked closer in better light. They did not replace the rubber heel pads. They just nailed the cleats on over the worn spot. Tuesday I am taking them to another shop to have this corrected and crossing Andy off of my list.
Up and sheveled. Having a smoothie fer brekkie. I shall fart around on the interwebs for a bit, then must do laundry. I always forget how much bigger cold weather laundry is. I’m not out of anything, but the pile is overflowing the basket. Also a trip to re-provision and to Lowes for a shelf bracket, the shelf that holds laundry soap is getting saggy. Huzzah!
Good morning, everyone.
Safe travels, FCM.
longhair, shoe repair is indeed a dying art. All the shoe repair shops around here have disappeared, and the last one I used put on cheap, plastic heel taps when I specifically said I wanted the rubber taps. I’m not particularly rough on my shoes, but heel taps give out if you walk around in the heels a lot.
Just about ready to head out the door for my hike. I’m looking forward to it. I hope my friend comes better prepared this time, especially since she’s taking her dog. I hope she remembers to bring water and bowl for the dog.
I’ve got my little pack all packed up and will be ready to hit the road in just a bit.
Polar will not be happy that I’ll be gone. My husband said all he does is sigh and mope when I’m gone. I was gone for a few hours yesterday doing some shopping and after moping and sighing inside, he went outside to lie down on the back porch until I returned.
I think the next time I’m in the U.S., one of my first stops will be a Trader Joe’s. There’s two near my parents.
I guess I’m a bit slow. I just realized why Sunny’s children are Beamer and Beamette. Great Beaker costume!
Sounds like my tinnitus. Hope you have lots to keep you distracted.
{{{butters}}} Hard to believe it’s already been a year.
Parents (north of Seattle) lost power twice this week. Once for 10 hours (major outage), 2nd time for just a few hours (local tree), so I hope they are done with that nonsense for now.
Uff da. Getting up at that time is not for the faint of heart.
Regarding shoe repairs, I have a pair of boots whose soles came unglued. That was just before everything went south, and I had left them at work. They are still there, and I’m not sure what to do with them because all the shoe repair places that I knew of went out of business during the various lockdowns.
Today we got out of the house and took the bus to town and did some major shopping. Some of the stores have both Halloween (not a big holiday here) and Christmas decorations for sale, which is a bit confusing.
We walked past the new Dunkin Donuts and there was a big line so we decided not to stop. We had lunch, did more shopping and then decided we would brave the long line.
There was no line. In and out in 5 minutes. By that time the line was again out the door. So we got lucky.
Haven’t tried them yet, and I know they aren’t Top Pot or Krispy Kreme, but they’ll hit the spot.
And now I’m wondering when donut places changed from the boxes where the donuts are set on end to the big flat boxes they use now. Lot easier to carry the smaller box. We just got 6 donuts and that’s already somewhat annoying to carry.
The “on-end” boxes only work for plain glazed. They use the flat boxes to show off (and preserve from damage) all the pretty frosting swirls and swizzles.
Source: pulled the theory straight outta where the sun don’t shine.
But it sounds logical to me, therefore, it must be true!
It’s official: I have a job interview today (in about an hour) and another one on Tooosday afternoon. Both for budtender positions.
Remains to be seen if I jump ship entirely, or if - more likely - they’re hiring P/T and I have to juggle two schedules.
Gonna play this by ear, with few real expectations.
But if anyone wants to beam (or Beamette ) good vibes my way, I’ll take 'em!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 14C/57F here, and pretty sunny despite the fact my weather app says “mostly cloudy”. Must be looking out of a different window.
I did not make it to the gym this morning, woke up at 7am with a thumping headache so I cancelled my classes via the gym’s app, had some paracetamol and went back to bed. When I woke up later, the headache had just about gone, I’m left with a slightly heavy feeling on one side of my noggin.
We went to do errands in town and decided to go to the posh Indian restaurant for lunchtime curry. It’s been refurbished since the last time we were there and looks very fancy. The curry was delicious and I am definitely stuffed. Did our couple of errands and then I drove over to the pet store to stock up on cat litter. Had a look at the carriers in the shop but they weren’t big enough for Whisper, who is now known as Podgy McPodgeface. I’ll measure the ones we have at home, look for a larger one online and order to collect from the shop next weekend.
It’s blokie’s turn to make dinner tonight, he’s got instructions to be ready earlier than usual because we are off to a gig tonight. It’s one I’ve had tickets for since some time last year so good to be using some of them up at last. Then last night a friend who put on a three day music festival in tonight’s venue messaged me with a link for early bird tickets for next year’s festival. There are only 30 tix at the cheap rate, and they don’t officially go on sale until Monday. I am feeling rather special
I’ve been conscious for 17 minutes.
Need. More. Caffeine.
The change of seasons is always tough in the fall. The spiking barometer makes the arthritis worse (cyclone bomb, anyone?), and the general gloominess can make my tail drag.
My wife checks her vitals pretty regularly and suddenly started noticing that her pulse rate was quite low; like in the 30s low. I thought perhaps she wasn’t using the oximeter or the BP cuff properly, or that perhaps the batteries were failing, but my readings were okay. She’s also been having dizziness lately. Looking online, it appears that she may have bradycardia, which is a common problem in older folks. She has an appointment with her doc next Wednesday, but now I’m wondering if she needs to check into the ER today, as things haven’t improved. Not good news.
Here’s hoping it will correct itself Cookie. Taters. Enjoy the hike. Wish I had that kind of energy. Safe travels **Mooomm. ** Doggioo your joke about running around the clock made me lol. Mmmm
Die donuts. Do you have a Mumper name?
I haven’t been up long. Took the dog on his walk and noticed the porta potties have arrived. My neighborhood is the destination for thousands of trick or treaters for some reason. There are Jell-O shots for the adults, margaritas and tacos also. I live on a cul de sac (dead end ) just two houses from the main street where all that will take place. The local bank even sets up a hotdog stand. I keep my light off but did donate money for the margaritas and candy to a neighbor. I may or may not go sit with her for a bit.
What shall I do today? There is no end in sight to what I need to do but lack of motivation and procrastination has a strong grip on me.
Mooomm I can’t get the story of the lady having her hands eaten by her cats out of my mind. I wish I hadn’t read that. How very sad that no family, friends or even neighbors noticed her absence. I live alone but surely would not lie here dead for three weeks I hope.
Thanks. We’re heading in to the ER this morning, where they’ll likely do an EKG to make sure there isn’t a serious heart issue that needs immediate attention.
Consider hearty good vibes sent winging your way.
My thoughts exactly, but getting caffeine would require leaving my cozy down comforter and confronting the chilly quartz tile floor in my kitchen. Maybe I should move the Keurig to my bedroom for the winter and skip the whole cold kitchen thing.
Sending good thoughts to your wife, and to you, Cookie.
I wasn’t active here this week, in large part because I was living inside my own head for a lot of the week. I’ve been having some discomfort in my abdomen for a couple of months. I finally got an appointment to see a doctor this past Thursday; the doctor (who was incredibly nice) confirmed my suspicion: I have an inguinal hernia.
As these things go, it’s not very bad, but I suspect that surgery will be in the cards. It’s good to know what’s actually going on, and I was, of course, obsessing about all of the other possible things that it might have been.
The doctor’s office has put in a referral to a surgical group, and I’m still waiting for the surgeon’s office to call about setting up an appointment for an initial consultation. This all might make the holidays interesting.
Otherwise, I’m trying to be a lazy bum this weekend, because work has been so very busy.
Ugh to the inguinal hernia. I got one, too. I’m in the laborious process of trying to get it fixed. That’s why I had the colonoscopy. The surgeon wanted a report on the inside of it.
There needs to be an inguinal herjia support thread here!

I heaved, and had to do the empty bag truck myself, but it’s nice to be able to throw things without hearing “You have anger management issues” and “You’re no longer welcome at Target.”
Briiliant!
You deserve.it. and glad the diagnosis turned out like a Jimmy Buffett song: “Things are better off than I had feared.”
When there is anything suspected of being heart-related, don’t wait. The smartest choice is to call 911 and give it all to the paramedics.
Mr VOW’s first suspected heart-related ER trip turned out to be a pulled muscle from horsing around with *COTU#1. He was embarrassed by the whole thing, and our family doctor scolded him for feeling that way. There are simply too many cases of folks who choose to “wait and see,” and instead the 911 call is to request the coroner.
Mr VOW’s next heart-related ER trip was for something cardiologists call The Widowmaker. The paramedics had barely pulled up to the ER when blood was rushed to the lab to detect cardiac enzymes, then he was zoomed on the paramedics’ stretcher/gurney to the Cardiac Cath lab for four stents.
Extra tip: keep a list of all your drug prescriptions and OTC supplements on hand. Paramedics will love you, and everyone in the ER will worship you.
I hope everything is both hunky and dory for Mrs Chef.

I think the second sentence answers the first.
Thank you, darling. It went well, I think.
Con: they haven’t even opened yet. I’ve worked at brand-spanking-new retail positions before, and they’re always … chaos squared.
Pro: they had two dogs milling about, and billed themselves as “pet friendly.” (No. I didn’t bring up Pretzel. Yes. I thought about it.)
They went out of their way to bill themselves as open & transparent. (The better I get at seeing through people’s bullshit, the less patience I have for other people’s bullshit.) I mentioned offhand a couple of random observations/suggestions for their half-finished lobby, based off previous experience, and they seemed immediately receptive, rather than defensive or dismissive.
Could mean they don’t know what the hell they’re doing, but I’m getting waaayyy ahead of myself here.
(They = owner + the H.R. rep.)
Keep us posted, of course. Bouncing good vibes her way …
OH! How could I forget?!? The best part …
Interview was at a dispensary about half a block away from where I used to work. On a lark as I was leaving, I swung by … and SO MANY of my old peeps were there.
I got many, many hugs.
Update: by the time we got to the ER, her pulse rate was back in the normal range, but this has happened before, only to plunge again. They did an EKG, which surprisingly only takes a few seconds now, and she’s now under observation for a couple of hours to see what happens.
