Building an ark in the MMP

Sending vibes your way!

I like the way you think.

Cookie I hope your wife is doing better soonest.

'Beamette needs to finish her Halloween costume. Other than that, not much is on the calendar. Maybe watch a movie?

Happy Saturday everyone.

Bring in some snacks and a chamber pot, and you won’t hafta leave your cozy warm bed for, like, days on end!

Halfway through Jawja!

Aaaaaaaaànd SC. Maybe 3.5 hrs to go today.

@FairyChatMom

Hey, you are practically in your back yard!

~VOW

Boo I recommend slippers to fight the cold floors.

FCM Safe travels.

cookie Best wishes to the other half.

shoe Good luck on the jobs, may you get a good one at a good place.

Now I’m off to build some pulled chicken tacos. I basically made birria sauce and slow braised the chickie tits in that and will construct some tacos around that. Dunk tortillas in the sauce, fry them up on a skillet, add some chix and queso, and maybe some other stuff. It smells great, so far.

I finally was able to run the dishwasher! I was going to do it Monday, but SWMBO started tearing apart the kitchen. One load is washed and put away, the rest of the dirty dishes plus some of the gypsum-covered pots and pans are washing now. I washed the Revere Ware pots and lids last night, wiped down their rack, and this morning washed the big roasting pan that hangs there. I’ll wash some of the Calphalon pans that didn’t make it into the washer in the next load and hand-wash the rest. And there’s still another drawer of things to wash.

The roofer came over. He’s going to drop off materials today. He said, ‘I’ll drop off the materials today, and tomorrow you’ll have a new roof!’ I asked him how to say ‘excellent’ in Spanish. He told me, and I said ‘Excelente!’ He said ‘Bueno!’ He says they’ll start at 0830 Sunday. It’s going to be interesting watching them re-sheet and re-line and re-shingle the entire house in a day.

If his crew is worth their salt, they’ll move faster than you can imagine.

First interview went well, so I “celebrated” with some frozen/baked crab cakes & garlic toast. (See? I’m eating!)

Now imma sit with my soothing cross-stitch and pat down all this “OMG!” anxiety by finishing lines of pretty blue colors.

So far the only task I’ve accomplished is putting off cleaning out the fridge. Cleaning the fridge is the chore I hate most. I don’t know why. It’s not like I have lots of moldy stuff in there. Once I’m finished, I vow to lead a monkish existence and keep the fridge pristine. Alas, like all those autumns when I vowed I’d keep my school desk immaculate, 'tis but an idle dream.

cookie, I hope they figure out what’s going on with your wife’s heart. I hate when recurring problems go away by the time you get to a doc. Has she ever worn a Holter monitor?

shoe, the interview sounds promising. Nice that you got so many hugs from your old gang.

obi, glad you got a diagnosis. I don’t know much about hernia surgery, but I hope it’s got a quick recovery.

Butters, I want to visit your neighborhood. It sounds like fun! We don’t get trick-or-treaters here at the complex. The gate deters kids. I miss seeing all the costumes.

Some of the current W.I.P. (work in progress) hoops.

We called this guy based on this review from our Nextdoor network [shortened]:

THRILLED WITH OUR NEW ROOF! Century 21 Roofing did our roof and we couldn’t be happier. Top quality at the right price point.

They came in like a Marine Corps brigade, worked non-stop with surgical precision (Saturday and SUNDAY) and completed the roof in 2 days. No easy feat since they stripped off the old roof all the way to the original sheathing, laid down CDX plywood, tar paper, flashing and shingles.

And they left the job site clean as a whistle.

No idea how big the person’s roof is. Juan is using 7/16" OSB for the new sheeting on our roof because it’s less expensive than plywood. He’s using something called ‘ice shield’ on our roof because we do get a lot of rain and snow and our roof’s pitch is not high.

Our next-door neighbour, who only comes up occasionally, said we could park in his driveway.

But then I have to be able to find two of them all the time…on the other hand, I have been known to have multiple pairs of slippers in action and don’t mind putting on a mismatched pair. Two, any two slippers work. [I can see FCM’s pearls clutching as I write]

I’m warming to the idea of moving a Keurig to my bedroom. Cheap word play, I know.

I think I’m drawing the line at the chamber pot. Soon as I drag myself to a grocery store, the snack stash is probably happening. The cupboard is pretty bleak and I just used the grocery money to renew my nursing license, which is pricey ($123) but only every two years. Most likely my last renewal-by 2023 I will have to accept that I am now a retired nurse, sigh. Dreams die hard.

That’s beautiful @purplehorseshoe, just beautiful! Soothed me just to look at the W.I.P. pic.

I have returned! I only brought my tablet to Vegas and its hard to post on it due to big keyboard and tiny screen, but I was able to lurk around which was enough and I was able to keep up here, which was all that mattered.

The drive though Lake Mead was really depressing. We had a wonderful, wet monsoon and the water still looks lower than it was when I drove through last July.

The weather in Vegas was wonderful. I wasn’t registered for the convention, I was just there to hang out with Mom and make her buy me fancy drinks and expensive meals, so I didn’t go to the talks or classes. I had planned to hang out in the free room and stitch, but our room overlooked an event center and the view of the goings on was great, so I spent a lot of time there or looking out from the parking garage a different view.

I never once saw a star and I don’t remember seeing the moon for all the lights and fancy side of the building animated displays, it was very cool in a self-absorbed nihilistic way.

I did spend enough time in the free room to pick up some new stitching tips and nobody looked at my work and said anything like “Did you learn to needlepoint during the quarantine?” or “I can see you are struggling a little, dear. Can I help at all?” and one lady even complimented me on the compensation stitches on the upright X stitches on the chimney.

Of course I had to buy something at a dispensary and those folks have got it going! The weed came prepackaged in company labeled resealable bags with product labeling and all. Because I bought several things, I was also given a larger heavy duty labeled carrying bag because they were PROUD of their product. The store was upbeat and the staff were all happy and cheerful seeming. When I told the receptionist that I was a MJ tourist and that I didn’t know a thing about how Vegas worked, she was chipper and explained everything I needed to do and then told me to remember to tell my budista that I was a Veteran for a 20% discount.

Masks were required everywhere I went including the dispensary.

BIG difference from my California experience, the workers there seemed to hate their job and all of the customers and the store was grubby and neglected. Nobody masked and the first dispensary I visited had a big sign saying that people wearing masks would not be served.

Mom just woke up from her nap and needs help unpacking because she doesn’t seem capable of throwing VBC out of her room and closing the door. VBC likes to help by climbing into dresser drawers and suitcases. There is a very good reason she is called VeryBadCat!

She’s back home. Her pulse was steady throughout the monitoring. While she was lying there, she looked at the display and saw that her pulse was in the 60s or 70s, so she slipped on the oximeter that she had brought with her and it showed 45bpm. So there is clearly something wrong with our oximeter, but that doesn’t explain the low numbers on the BP machine we have.

As a precaution, the ER doc is having her get set up with a Holter on Tuesday.

Every time Mrs. L.A. touches the mandolin slicer (which isn’t often, for either of us) I warn her it’s deadly sharp. She hasn’t cut herself. I was going to put it away as part of reconstructing the kitchen, when I noticed I failed to thoroughly clean it last time. I took it to the sink to wash it… and cut my finger. Barely touched it.

Thank you!

I was looking at the web site for the surgical group yesterday; they feature “robotic surgery,” when appropriate. Between that, and the possibility that they would be installing a surgical mesh, I am looking forward to the first step in my cybernetic transformation.

NC!!! Yay!

flyboy Those frigging mandolines. I had a project I worked for a year and a half, table saws, routers, circ saws, all sorts of dangerous tools, 70 hours a week. The worst injury I had during that time was on a mandoline making scalloped potatoes. I took a snip off the end of my pinky finger. It still feels kinda numb 2 years later.

Interestingly, discourse doesn’t like the correct spelling of mandoline.
