Caffeine addicted MMP

I got multiple compliments on dinner: Turkey (from the supermarket deli), provolone, avocado, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches with mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. ‘I knew you could make a better sandwich than I could.’ Glad she liked tonight’s simple fare. (I liked mine, too.)

I hope that you can return the new phone nellie. As for durable plush doggy toys, I would highly recommend Zippy Paws or, if you can find them, InvinciMinis. Both make what is pretty much a plush covered, very durable, squeaky. You can also check out local options for pet ambulances (yes, they do exist). I think you would be a wonderful dog sitter.

Welcome back sunny! Glad your husband is doing better.

Good to see you stop by nut. Yay on the house!

I went out on a ride this afternoon with a friend. We headed up toward Cookeville (on the Cumberland Plateau, but not that far away) with a friend. We saw a whole bunch of bikes out, given that it was a pretty 85F day. We had lunch at a little cafe that I used to go to when I lived at my last apartment (about 25 miles east of my old place). Tomorrow should be back down to the fifties (gotta remember to turn of the AC and turn the heat back on before bed).

Now, I’m relaxing and watching some history stuff on YT.

Howdy all. I am still alive. I actually was a bit productive today and cleaned the floors. Took most of the day but it’s done. I had zero sleep last night so am already a bed. Supper was a grilled chicken sammich and fries.

Tomorrow I must bathe Buddyboy. He’s overdue.

Ok all good night.

Evening all. Did some soccer watching and a little more shopping/mailing, then ate my Big Bowl O’Salad for dinner. May do a little more shopping tomorrow, my slacks are still 46"x 32" and without a tight belt fit, they fall down with little hesitation, so off tomorrow to shop for some 44"x32" at Kohl’s. Also need to pickup some Fat Free Ranch Dressing (yes, I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but it does exist) for future salads.

Butters, Sunny, Nut, good to hear from you, looking forward to further updates.

Nellie, extremely glad your phone got returned, hopefully they’ll take it back since it’s hardly been used. And the site for the dogs is called The Half Husky Brothers and if you want to waste a couple days you can visit the other videos there.

Wet one, such a highlight for your day…

Cat Glove, don’t know if it’s the best braunsweiger, but it’s what I grew up with all these decades and as long as it is available I’ll stick with it. And that’s a long ride, Map or GPS.

Nut, hope the home heating project (among others) goes well.

Sunny, we had several days of ‘swayin’" weather (as you walked you swayed to the right and then swayed to the left), but the Captain said the conditions were “Moderate” for the crossing–nice thing (I may have mentioned it) is that I didn;t need to use the motion sickness patches at all, did just fine without them. And great news on Husband-unit.

OK, need to finish the night’s internettin’ and head off to bed. Been waking up at 6am the last few mornings, so I hope to stay up a little later and maybe get to sleep in some.

Take care all.

If you dunk your orange in warm water for a minute and then let it sit on the counter for another minute, it makes peeling them somewhat easier. I do not know why, but it really does seem to help when I get garden oranges like you have.

If you can’t eat all of those oranges before they go bad, you can freeze the juice (strain the pulp out) and you can freeze the peeled orange sections to use for smoothies or cooking, they won’t be very nice to eat because freezing explodes the pulp membranes and ruins the mouth feel.

I also got a bag of garden oranges today but hubs doesn’t like oranges so I kept 4 for me and gave the rest of them to the LWT.

It was super cold when the volunteers were out loading cars but they were all smiling and cheerful. I really wish our program would catch on in other places. I also need to buy more knitted gloves to hand out to them, I did that last year and saw the volunteers wearing them for the rest of the winter.

OK, done. The jungle to the rescue.

Today’s boxes included a 10 lb bag of potatoes (each) a dozen pints of milk, the above mentioned oranges and some tomato and mozzarella salads. We have stopped getting chicken legs and thighs, now we are getting those tubes of ground up turkey. Oh, and a 12 pack each of generic coke. LWT recognized the brand and told me which store it was from but when it comes to soda, the words just kinda go in one ear and out the other because we don’t drink it. They do and she was happy to get it so it all worked out.

I am so happy to hear from you, we’ve been worried. I’m REALLY happy that your hubby is improving. It always takes time to find the right dosage for many medications, here’s hoping that his Doctor is willing to do the fine tuning needed.

(bolding mine) OMG, that is WAY too organized for me to have thought of and I have a Masters of Library Science degree. Maybe that is something OCD me might like to start doing…hmmmm…do you have a page for each maintenance chore or do you do it by date?

Adds my cries of happiness that your phone was returned by someone who did the right thing. Too bad it is so rare anymore.

I’m pretty sure there are Ubers in your area, if a client’s dog gets sick enough to have to rush to the vet, I’m sure they won’t mind paying for some sort of taxi service. You really do seem to be enjoying having a furry houseguest and I enjoy hearing you being happy, so I am going to continue to encourage you to think a little more about pet-sitting as a side gig.

/Gasps/ That’s what happened to all of our glass coffee making tools as well.

I’m so glad you are still in the living. Good on the house, bad on the work and icky shag carpet.

I just write that filling out depression questionnaires always depresses me.

So, back to the surplus food boxes…the organizers are always begging for empty boxes so we put our shipping boxes in my car for food day. Suddenly, they will not take Amazon boxes because Amazon sprays something on the boxes that makes them unusable for food.

Has anyone heard of this? I’m not going to question the folks who are doing such a great thing for the community, but I really don’t get it.

‘BIL’ has Type 2 diabetes. He injured a toe a couple of months ago, it went gangrenous, and it was amputated. My sister called tonight to talk to Wifey, RN, Certified Foot Care Specialist. BIL stepped on a nail a couple of weeks ago. He’s been putting antibiotic creme in the hole. Sis wanted to know if they should cut out the dead, white skin. Wifey, RN said he needs to see a doctor. Tomorrow. He’ll probably get oral antibiotics, and probably be referred to a wound center. BIL is not the sharpest tool in the shed, and he’s pig-headed. I texted my ‘niece’ to reiterate what The Nurse, who happens to be a Certified Foot Care Specialist, said. I said ‘DON’T DICK AROUND,’ and said BIL could lose his foot, then his leg, then his life.

My sister and her family are on Disability, Social Security, MediCal, and Medicare. They got a new furnace a year or so ago, but the contractor took off before hooking it up; so they have no heat. They do have rats. And a dangerous tree. Sis doesn’t have a case worker. I told my niece that there should be programs to help them, and to contact San Diego County for assistance or to point them in the right direction.

We’ll see if they heed any advice.

How very frustrating. You have my extreme sympathy.

flyboy is it possible to install a temp control device that allows you to set what temp you want the furnace at at different times? That’s what we have. We can set it for certain times and temps during winter for the furnace and different times and temps during summer for the AC.

JtC that was a very good story, thank you for sharing!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Wonder what fun filled chaos awaits today?

Does he like baths, or are we dealing with a “Princess Pretty paws” situation?
Good luck, and goodnight!

Buddyboy is of the Princess Pretty Paws persuasion. I have to leave the harness on to hold on to him and bathe with one hand. Now once the bath is over he gets all zoomy and happy. Stinker.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 82 and mostly cloudy for the day. Nuttin’ is on the agenda for today. We have had to leave da cave everyday for the past five days, so today is hole up in da cave and high sloth day. We bought a couple of tuna steaks which will be grilled for tonight’s sup. Peas 'n carrots, wild rice, and rolls shall accompany. Both of us decided to forego chawklit for our Lenten “giveup.” This may not end well.

NUTS!!! :: tacklehug :: so glad to hear from you! Conga rats on the house. Hope the heat is workin’ well. My first house had orange/yellow shag carpet so I feel the pain. As you well know by now, take care of the maintenance stuff first and stuff like the carpet will follow in time.

FlyBoy sorry you’re havin’ to deal with that with your sis and BIL. However, they are grownups and ultimately must do things for themselves. Doesn’t mean that makes it any less crazy for you though.

JtC I’d never heard that about Jungle boxes. Curious.

I’ve always wondered about those depression questionnaires. Does anybody ever answer yes?

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

For months, we kept telling FIL to use his walker. Had he done so, he might not have fallen so much and hit his head so much, including the fall that ultimately ended him. There should be a pill for pigheadedness, tho they’d not take it, would they? I have to wonder if it’s fear or denial or exactly what possesses people to spurn the experts.

We found that bathing Higgs was easier in the deep sink - she was too short to get out. Unfortunately, the new deep sink I bought is on the flimsy side, plus with the basement carpeted, a wet dog is not a good idea. So I just lock her in the guest bathroom with me and deal. I need to do that today or tomorrow.

But Amazon ships food…?? I’ve not heard this, but it sounds like an urban myth. If they’re unsafe for food, then what about the hands that touch the boxes, or the toddlers who might chew on the contents, or the critters who might gnaw on the boxes? No, it makes no sense.

I’ve got a load in the washer, and as soon as FCD wakes, we’re going to patch the roof of his shop. He’s cut a piece of steel sheet and he’ll coat the back with a sealant, slap it in place, and add a couple of screws to hold it. Theoretically quick and easy, except that the ladder will be sitting on gravel that has a tendency to shift underfoot. I’ll be holding the ladder for sure.

Then MIL and BIL will be coming over, and I’ll teach BIL how to use TaxAct. And SIL will be dropping off Tobias some time after 11 since he got called in for work today. So much for a day off…

I have pretty much decided when I’ll bring this child care adventure to an end. Daughter will be coming for supper on Tuesday and I’ll lay it out for her then. They’ll have a year to plan for alternative care and I’ll have an end date. They’re not the best in the world at planning ahead, but I’ve decided it’s not my problem. I dealt with child care when I was her age - she’s fully capable of doing the same.

And so it goes. Happy Firday!!

Morning, and happy Friday everyone. 41F here, with rain expected.

Sorry for being out of the loop so much, but have been busy and/or on the road this week. Assume hugs/wishes/spells as necessary for those who deserve support (and everyone else too).

Home after lengthy visit with aging relatives, just trying to be there for someone who’s alone all the time. It’s a good lesson for me, as I face aging and its problems.

Eldest was reassigned from his former route bringing supplies and folk into Turkey. It was scheduling stuff (he was doing great) but the boss folk wanted him running a different route. He texted from Hawaii earlier and assured us he’s OK (snerk) with his new destinations.

Youngest is leaving for exotic islands as well, as she has papers to present at a conference. We’ll be in charge of her dog (the “devil dog” I’ve referred to in earlier posts). Actually looking forward to it, as our house seems empty without our pooch running around.

I’m still waiting on the insurance check, and it’s now over 90 days since the accident. But the good news is that the settlement is higher than I expected, so I’m OK. Their breathless texts about progress have become a source of amusement (“We’re having the meeting to decide the settlement”, “We’ve presented our decision to management”, “We’ve sent the holy digits to the accounting folk”, “They’re cutting the check today!”, “We’re putting it in the mail tomorrow!” – and on and on.) It’s gotten funnier over time. I think I’ll do the same thing when my next payment is due. They’ll understand and have no issues waiting for 3 months, right? Yeah, right.

After the 2021 hail disaster here (short version: lost car, roof, sheds, deck, fencing, gate, etc.), we’ve become proactive about protecting ourselves. It’s inevitable that hailstorms will figure in our future so one of the steps is to protect the new truck we were forced to buy. And I don’t want any more claims for a while. So, I present the “portable garage” we’ve gotten and assembled. Looks comical, but I think it’ll work!

View from the front (truck is in there):
Imgur

What is looks like inside (you can see the shape of the truck under the white inner covering, with the inflated part held above it):
Imgur

I know it looks goofy, but with all the fans holding it inflated, I suspect it can decelerate all but the most hugest of hailstones. And it cost less than our deductible. I’ll report back after the next storm.

Hope everyone has a good remaining week. More to report, but must run. Back later.

JtC, I hadn’t heard that about boxes from da Jungle. I do know that they are making their shipping boxes lighter weight now. The poison thing sounds a bit like an urban legend, as posted previously.

Have fun bathing Buddy butters. :stuck_out_tongue: I lucked out with Nelson. While it isn’t his favorite thing, he will stay in the tub and not fight his bath. Like Buddy, he goes all zoomy once he’s clean. :stuck_out_tongue:

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels / throw rugs in the dryer, jeans in the wash and everything else waiting to get clean. Fixing to do KP and clean the hovel. It’s supposed to be in the fifties today (big change from yesterday), so Nelson may get a trip to the dog park.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

No roof repair after all - it’s really windy out. I’m going to request a quote from a roofing company near here - I think FCD might be persuadable.

We took the truck to our car guy - the left rear lights - brake, blinker, and running lights - are not working. I’m betting something ate thru some wires… again. We also disassembled the spinning wheel - MIL will take it back with her. And we found FIL’s tuning gizmo for the hammered dulcimer - luckily, Amazon was acting up on my tablet and I wasn’t able to order one last night.

So now we wait till everyone gets here.

We don’t have HVAC; only a thermostat next to the wall-mounted propane furnace. The house was built in 1934, and the last addition was (probably) in the '70s. It wouldn’t matter anyway. This morning the furnace was blowing away, and SWMBO turned up the thermostat anyway. My weather app says it’s 20º out this morning.

Yep. I’m already managing the rental property in San Diego, and withholding most of sis’s share of the rent so that I (yes, ‘I’) can pay the property taxes on her house, because if she got her whole share she’d spend it and then start crying at me that she can’t pay her taxes. I tell her I can’t manage her life for her. In the eyes of ‘BIL’, I’m an asshole for not giving them money whenever they need it.

Good morning everyone.

It’s an icy 20 degrees outside with an expected high of 39 and sunny skies. There is still snow on the ground, although the majority of it has melted off and then frozen into ice. I am thankful I didn’t have to drive to work yesterday because it was a mess down south, there were multiple accidents both in my county and Thurston county and I’m thankful to have avoided all of that falderal.

Sunny! Nuts! So good to see you!

I have an appointment to get my hair done-did today, and depending on how much goop she puts in my hair, I may take care of a couple of errands while I’m out and about. My stylist puts too much product on my hair to tame some of those short flyaways. I should just tell her to go a little easier on it.

Other than the above, I don’t have any real plans. I should clean the carpet in work from home office; it’s been a while. It’s not like I’m messy or spilled stuff, but my son occupied that room when he lived here, and the stains he created always rise back to the surface.

The real answer is to replace ALL the flooring both upstairs and downstairs. It’s just not in the budget, especially with the impending roof replacement. I really, really, really loathe wall-to-wall carpeting. It just retains everything.

I haven’t heard the garbage truck outside this morning; I’m hoping they are just on delay. They often cancel the routes when the roads are icy.

FCM, I think giving your daughter and son-in-law a year is a long time. I know in the past you were talking about having the care end this summer. It’s none of my business, but I honestly think if you give them a year, they are going to let all that time slide by because it’s too far out and then it’s just going to keep on going on dribs and drabs.

Well, I should finish my coffee and start getting presentable for public viewing.

I hope you all have a great day!

Boss gets a dollar and I get a dime, that’s why I poop on company time
Sort of. Midnight was running late, and they forgot to switch out the outbound trailer in Door 67 for an empty one for bags. Which required 2 trips back to Smalls to get the supervisor to radio the tower to get someone to switch it out. So I got paid close to 45 minutes to sit on my butt.

Not after his bath.

Amazon puts food in 'em all the time. It shouldn’t be a problem unless your giving out loose milk or something.

Good luck. and {{{{Flyboy}}}} for having to deal with that.

Of all the critters I’ve had, the cat was easiest to bathe.

Morning all. Got up at 8:30am and immediately started a load of laundry and put the garbage out on the curb (they usually come Thursday, but Monday was a holiday so…). Now resting after such endeavors, having my Instant Breakfast and a banana. Will get out and do some more shopping here shortly, and also make it to the gym (no soccer on the TV today). It’s down in the 50’sF here, about a 30 degree drop from yesterday, but more normal for the time and season.

flyboy, sounds like you are doing what is needed without doing too much; always a tricky proposition. Hope BIL gets his act together long enough to keep his leg (I have a nephew with type 2 diabetes and you can bet he takes good care of himself).

yanker, never saw something like that before, just hope it doesn’t get much of a workout. Glad you are on the home stretch with the insurance folks. When I had the water leak in the house that damaged the carpets and house, they were right out and once I submitted the paperwork I got the check within 10 days…different places and companies, I guess.

FCM, hope all the family meetings and work goes as planned (HA!! when does that ever happen??). Take care.

OK, need to make myself presentable and head out to try on some new pants. Don’t want to buy more than 2 pairs, since I don’t wear slacks all that often and I may yet get myself down to a smaller waist size before I’m done this year, but we’ll see.

Have a good Firday, all.

You’d think after losing a toe, he’d get a clue.
