We’ve supposedly had half an inch of rain in the last 24 hours. At least the wind’s calmed down somewhat.
I’m currently in chat with a prospective employer trying to set up an interview for what looks to be a WFH gig (company looks legit from here) doing data entry and some form of customer service. They’re on East Coast time (3 hours ahead of my Pacific Time, for our non-USian MMPers), so we’re out of sync at the moment. We shall see how this sorts out.
Informed Delivery says DH will be getting mail from the unemployment types today. Let’s hope it’s not too much of an ulcer-in-the-making, but as much of a dumpster fire as California EDD has been since 2020, there’s room for concern.
The rest of the day is TBD. We noticed recently that Buddy’s sleeping habits had changed and he wasn’t joining us on the bed. He’s resumed that in the last few days, which is nice. Yesterday, I woke up with a cat snuggled up to my legs on each side. The Princess didn’t join us today, though.
There are now seven cases of covid in The Home. All services have been suspended, other than meal delivery, which means no exercise classes, which are about the only thing I participate in. Ah, well. . .it’s the season for such things and at least nobody is taking a dirt nap. We’ll be seeing family this weekend, which will brighten things up.
Made Vietnamese caramelized pork bowls last night for the first time. Not the best success, I’m afraid, as the meat went from caramelized to burnt before I could pull it off the stove. Lower heat and more attention next time, methinks.
I’ve made those Vietnamese pork bowls, too, Chefguy. They’re yummy. And yeah, you have to keep an eye on the pork as it goes from caramelized to burnt in no time - all that sugar in there, you know.
In fact, I have some good quality ground pork in the freezer right now, and that sounds like a good dinner to make for tomorrow night. (Makes note to get scallions at the supermarket tomorrow.)
I’m in the south Bay Area of Northern California, and whoo boy, we got a lot of snow on the surrounding mountains last night. And not just mountains - the snow level was down to between 500 and 1000 feet last night. I’m at work in a skyscraper in downtown San Jose, and we’ve been walking around looking out the windows in all directions at the record-breaking snow. Fun!
Load of unders is all done and put away. In-laws have been helped and they’re gone. Tobias is here destroying the basement.
I made an appointment to get an estimate for fixing the shop roof. The truck repair will run over $500 because the wire harness is “fried” and the lens is cracked. Still cheaper than replacing the truck.
Very windy with dropping temps so I will take the kids home instead of the playground. Hope Daughter leaves work at a reasonable time…
Shaping up to be an entertaining morning. Basically just did a job interview by chat software (Session), and hopefully will be hearing back via email from the hiring department (timing indeterminate, they need to review the questionnaire I did via Google Docs). Xfinity has texted me twice this morning about how they know I might have a service issue, they’re working on it, and will let me know when my service is back up. I have Internet, landline, and cable working fine.
It’s a beautiful, sunshiny day here. Ms. Dog and I enjoyed our walk. ALL the lawns in one neighborhood smelled fascinating to her, so I started “reading” her pee-mail out loud: “Ms. Dog, I can’t live without you. Love, Rover.” “Don’t forget the Arf-a-thon tonight at 6 PM. Bark until dark!” That sort of thing. Anything to amuse myself. (I usually don’t let her sniff so much, but this seemed urgent.) Her person should pick her up this afternoon. I’ll miss her but not freezing my tail off.
Re, the Amazon boxes thing, Snopes says nope. It IS an urban myth. I love how Snopes tracked down one of the people who started the whole thing and her response to their query.
flyboy, your BIL sounds aggravating. He and your sister are lucky to have you. I hope they realize that. If not, we sure do.
yanker, that is SO cool! Question: what happens if the power goes out during a hail storm? Does the garage switch to a backup battery or something?
Well, no luck at the stores in finding my size, so I ended up at Amazon and have ordered 3 pairs, supposedly I can return them in 7 days if they don’t fit, but they are Haggar’s so I expect they’ll do just fine.
And I am also a member of the “if you buy a replacement, the missing thing shows up immediately” club. could not find the phone-to-USB cord so bought a new one yesterday at the Verizon store…and sure enough, seven hours later, I found the old one (it was in the last place I looked, of course). So if anyone needs a phone-to-USB connection for an Android phone, just let me know…
Nettie, fingers crossed for you on the job.
lucky, hope that snow doesn’t mess up your travel/roads too much.
Cookie, you and wifey be safe now.
OK, I told myself I would go to the gym today so I might as well be about it. Catch up with y’all later.
Howdy Y’all! We have slothed the sloth of the slothful today. Then we accomplished nappage. Now it’s time for more sloth. OK, gotta get sup fixed and et at some point, but I promise that will be the entirety of productive stuff for the day. 'Tis 81 Amurrkin out and mostly N.O.S., thus we must go out on the back porch and day drink soon.
MetalMouse Happy Doperversary! I saw the slice of cake by your name.
MOOOOOOM glad you’ve decided to lay down the law re daycare. A year is most generous IMO.
Nettie shall we cross appropriate/inappropriate appendages?
Vietnamese pork bowls sound nummy and also sounds like a good name for a rock band.
Yanker that looks cool! I’ll bet you’ll be the envy of the 'hood. Maybe you’ll start a trend with blow up hail protectors in the 'hood.
Cookie hope the wife and you remain free of the plague.
Someone should SNOPES this. OK, I did it and it’s false. Here’s the link: Does Amazon Spray Boxes with Chemicals
Amazon spokesperson said “Boxes aren’t sprayed for any reason. If somewhere down the supply chain are they sprayed? The answer to that is no.”
My bed looked like a murder scene this morning. I apparently got a nose-bleed sometime last night. I’ve been getting them on a fairly regular basis lately, I think it’s just the cold dry air. So, ignore that for the work day, and am now dealing with laundry. Huzzah…
WHEW! My rent didn’t increase this year! That’s the first time that’s happened, unless you count the Plague Year, but I don’t because rent went up twice as much the following year. I’ve signed the lease, all 1,284 pages. OK, that’s what it seems like.
The dog is mostly packed up. Her person should be here in 1-2 hours, depending on traffic. I’ve enjoyed having her but am looking forward to getting back to the gym, etc.
I called my son to get help on wiping new phone clean for return. He walked me through backing up both devices but said to avoid trying to wipe the phone on my own and take it to Verizon store to do so instead.
MetalMouse, Happy Cake Day!
I did a few posts earlier. Great minds think alike!
VanGo, that must’ve been quite the nosebleed! Or else what flyboy said.
I could not find my reader sunglasses yesterday anywhere. Ordered 2 pair today, and guess what I then found. This guarantees I will die with 3 pair(s).
First coat is done on the painting. Touch up tomorrow on acropolis, I really like this gray colour. Dragon breath looks good. It went on looking like icky mud, but has dried to very nice dark gray with a hint of green. Dragon breath will need another coat.
I will have to touch up the ceiling and the base board as I trusted the cutting in tool. It worked well on the first cut in, not so good on the others.
I didn’t have to empty the bookcases, just took away the breakables. The cats were very interested to start but they then lost interest. I made sure there were a few cosy spots for them to settle.
Tomorrow I will add in two more areas, dragon blood and jade dragon will be the new colours there.
Yeah, I probably should have waited to post until I’d read all the posts. Oh well.
Taped the box with the birthday present for daughter well with packaging tape then went to PO. Man, over $10 for the smallest box they have. Oh well, daughter is worth it.
Then went with Hubs to his Hemotology Dr appointment. Dr. said his blood draw looks good, he had some concerns about his RBC and hemoglobin, I have concerns about neutriphylls but the Doc seemed to think things are going well. So he signed the authorization for next round of chemo starting Monday. He also told Hubs to call his PCP about his sciatica. I had to remind him when we got home. So he called and amazingly was able to get an appointment for this afternoon.
Tuna fish sandwiches for lunch. Dinner will be breaded fish fillet, various pierogis with sauteed onions, red & green bell peppers, zucchini, snap peas and broccoli. (Dr told me I need more fiber at my appointment on Monday)
Mattress (includes when bought, plus last date it was flipped/rotated)
Dishwasher- last time I ran a machine cleaning cycle
Water filter - last time it was changed
Espresso machine - last time it was descaled [you might note a trend - we killed a coffee machine because we didn’t know that we should descale it]
When the light duvet, heavy duvet or pillows got washed.
When the wood furniture got oil.
I least come by it honestly. My mom has January/February/March written in black marker on corner of the bed. You might be able to guess what’s written on 3 of the other corners.
One of the amusing things in the garage is that someone wrote, with a big black marker, that the garbage is picked up on Tuesday. Except that was before I was born. It’s been almost every other day, but never again on Tuesday.
Started writing this hours ago, and just now got back to it, and I can’t stop yawning. Maybe I should go to bed.
Peroxide and cold water are your best friends when it comes to removing blood stains.
I used to get nosebleeds before I retired, I blamed them on the AC. Have you tried rubbing a tiny bit of Vaseline on the inner walls of your nose? Doing that seemed to make a big difference for me.
