So the mattress pad came out of the wash looking fine, no more crime scene. Bed is made and ready for slumber. I donwanna deal with the sheets tonight. That’s a job for tomorrow Paintcharge. He’s got a lot on his plate.
Well, shoot. Ms. Dog’s person texted to say she’s back in town but has some stuff to wrap up at work, so is it ok if dog is here until 5? At minimum, I need to get to the phone store and the pharmacy today, and the phone store will take a long time, especially if it’s after 5, as it’ll be crowded. I told her yes, as long as it’s no later than 5 and explained why. She’s not a person who takes advantage, and I know how much work there is when returning from a conference. Still, I really wish she were coming here at the time we had planned.
I’ve been holding off on walking the dog because I thought her person would be here any minute. I guess I’ll take her now.
Hmph. We’re both disappointed.
Howdy Y’all! I decided that the tuna steaks would get baked instead of grilled, so I looked up the best way to do so. I absorbed enough info, but not too much lest I turn into GG with a bow on my head, and gave it a go. I am proud to report I did not commit a culinary don’t. They were actually quite good if’n I do say so myself. Even OYKW said it was good and he’s not much of a fish person at all. Plus there’s butter pecan ice cream for later!
Nellie hope Ms. Dog’s person shows up on or before time.
VanGo glad stuff is now bloodless.
Rocker you have been a paintin’ machine today!
Nettie this sounds like a job you really want, so appropriate/inappropriate appendages are crossed.
She DID show up early! Dog has gone, and I’m off for Verizon and then errands, if daylight allows. Yay!
Batten the hatches!!! metal mouse will be beating down your door!

I spent most of the day picking up the new (to us) car and going grocery shopping. It’s been so long since I’ve been in a store that isn’t Trader Joe’s, and I didn’t have a shopping list. I spent *ahem * hours. Also more money than I planned, but it was fun anyway. Doggio will be good to know that I’ve found a few new beers to try out.
Hugs to everyone!
Up from naptime, and trying to watch hockey. Having a Boulevardier for cocktail hour.
I’m dreading to see what my increase will be.
Happy Doperversary, MetalMouse! ![]()
: crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages :
Kids have been turned over to their mom. FCD and I went to the boatyard to see installations of bow thrusters and we talked to a guy who had a stern thruster, too. Learned some good stuff. Then we went to MIL’s to pick up some paperwork that came in the mail, and while there, I reassembled the spinning wheel for her. We also made notes of a couple of TV channels for her - in big black letters on yellow paper so she could read it.
After, we went to Pho D’Lite for supper - we’d been saying we wanted to try it. It was OK, but I don’t see us going there often, if ever again. It was interesting to be in an Asian cuisine restaurant where the servers both had pretty pronounced Hispanic accents.
Now we’re home, about to launch into an evening of chillage. I’m beat.
Because you wiped your face on your sheet?? ![]()
OK, I’m heading for Reclinerland.
Evening all. Computer work took a little extra time and then it was raining and…I talked myself out of going to the gym again. I really need to get back into the habit, once it is part of my routine I can follow it, but 3-4 weeks away and it’s tough to start again. Try tomorrow.
Thanks for all the congrats, I remember (vaguely) that I joined the SDMB way back (cannot find the actual date) in the early 2000’s and then dropped out for some reason until I re-found it about 7-8 years ago, IIRC. Think I’ll stick around for a bit longer.
Damn Right…

nellie, glad Ms. Dog is back home and you still had time to do the shopping. And good news about the rent staying stable.
VanGo, glad Doctor is happy with Husband-units numbers, hope the chemo goes well.
rocky, happy painting. Would like to see those Dragon Blood/Breath and Jade Dragon colors, are they on-line anywhere?
VanGo, that’s quite a bit of blood. Might want to get it checked if it re-occurs in the near future.
Agreed, gives me something else to lose…

Still raining around here, but my belly is full of grilled ham-n-cheese sammiches so all is right with the world. All y’all take care.
metal mouse, you can keep one cable in the car so’s you can charge while you’re driving. If it’s also a data cable, you can use it to sync for GPS (either your phone and GoogleMaps or your dedicated GPS system).
Houseirk, laundry and grocery shopping is done. I took Nelson to the dog park for a brief romp this afternoon, but at 50F, it was a bit chilly for either of us to stay past a half hour. After, we went for a ride and picked up a torta from a little place north of town for supper (it was good, but too much of it. I only ate half and am still stuffed).
I keep a meds list on my phone too, as well as the list on the computers that my docs have access to, but she was insistent on the phone, so I went along. And I can see TPTB not wanting anyone driving big rigs who might lose control. Thing is, my device is supposed to be a defibrillator, but when my heart rate got over it’s limit, 171 bpm, it slowed my heart down instead of shocking me like everybody thought it should. In fact it has never shocked me, so I kinda forgot it was supposed to. Sorry.
Saw my PCP yesterday afternoon. We had a long talk about my meds. She’s sharp and had a lot of good advice. I also started on Farxiga this morning. One of the docs in the valley wanted me to go on it, and my docs here concurred. It’s expensive as hell, so my cardiologist ordered it for me under the 340B drug pricing program. Whew!
Oh, and we stopped at JackinnaBox for fish sammiches. We were unimpressed. Also, on the innerwebs it said they were $3.99, they were $4.99.
We hope Dairy Queen brings back their fish sammich this year. They were really good.
Y’all have a great weekend.
Adventures with Nellie…I was walking home in the freezing cold when I came upon a Good Samaritan helping an elderly man whose scooter had gone into the grass off a major intersection. I offered to help. She said, “Yes. I’ve got to go now” and jumped back in her car, which had been blocking a lane.
I asked where he was headed. He said The UPS Store, but he didn’t seem to know exactly where it was. I gave him directions, but he was hard of hearing and seemed a little vague. Here’s where I was selfish. My hands were really hurting due to the cold and my Raynaud’s Syndrome. I thought about walking him there, but it’d mean an extra mile round trip. (See? Selfish.) I offered to call someone, but he said no. I thought of getting him an Uber, but there was the scooter, and how would he get home? I made sure he got across the street OK, but he had more streets to cross. He wore only khakis, a cotton shirt and an insulated vest–no hat, gloves, jacket–AND there were no lights on his scooter.
I hustled a couple of blocks to where it was quieter and called 911. Even if he finds the UPS Store, how far would he have to go to get home in the dark and cold? Would drivers see him? I sure hope the cops find him. I keep listening for ambulance sirens. I’m worried and feel guilty.
I know that changing your vent filters probably won’t help that much, but it could help a little. I know you haven’t turned into a social butterfly since moving there, but you are still sharing air with a whole bunch of strangers.
Thanks everyone, I was pretty sure it wasn’t so but didn’t think to check Snopes. We have cats and Amazon Prime, of course our cats have Amazon boxes and they have never had any issues, even when we put catnip in the box so they can lick it up.
Not wanting to be a choosey beggar, I won’t argue with them, I will just take all of my jungle boxes to the other community center who will be happy to have them.
I’ve also never seen anything like that either, very cool. How long does it take to get your truck in and out of it?
Hubs used to love it when Phx got golf ball sized hail. He was in the car repair business and made serious bank for months after one.
I would have loved to have taken that walk with you, I’d have been laughing the whole time!
My fingers are crossed and I am full of confidence that they will find you as awesome as we do!
Your mom was a very smart woman, those are all good things to keep track of.
Stop this right now. He was not and is not your responsibility. You did what you could, you can’t save the world.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and mostly cloudy for the day. This shall be another day of high sloth and not leavin’ da cave. Sounds like the best plan ever to me. I have chikin tenders marinatin’, so sup shall be grilled chikin sallits with cheesey garlic bread.
Nellie seems to me you did all that you could, so no need to feel guilty. Like JtC said, you can’t save the world. I’m sure he got to his destination and safely home.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Waiting for the snow - probably just a dusting, but supposedly it’s on the way.
FCD woke before I did and he did all of my morning routine, including refilling the pellet stove. I dragged myself out of bed before he got to the cat box and he asked me to deal with it, which I shall. Then I made us breakfast, and we’re in morning chillage mode for the moment.
We may or may not go to the boat today to start our to-do list - it depends on the weather. No real plans otherwise. I had hoped to sleep in, but my bladder had other ideas. Oh well, I can always doze in my recliner.
Happy Saturday!!
Stupid brain woke up at stupid 5:30. It had lots of work to think about. I wasn’t planning on going to work today.
Morning all, Cold and more cold today (at least from a Tejas POV - 37F).
Thanks! It took 2 hours the first time, and 10 minutes the second time. There’s definitely a learning curve.
It can use its own battery pack or the truck’s battery, both for about 3 hours. The manual says it will shut down at some point if on vehicle battery to avoid draining it. I’ve loaded the battery pack for use, but haven’t hooked up the cig-lighter connection (it’s too short to reach back to the fans). It also runs from the house A/C power, and plans are to just use that, since we’ll go on the generator if there’s a local outage during a storm. There’s no way to switch power sources without walking out to the truck so we’ll need to switch over from inside.
Hubs used to love it when Phx got golf ball sized hail. He was in the car repair business and made serious bank for months after one.
It’s unbelievable how destructive a big hailstorm can be. Here’s the result of the last one. Some of the doors wouldn’t open due to the damage, and had to be pried.
In other news, earlier this week I got to see one of those fire-breathing angry tailgaters get his comeuppance. After endangering and intimidating several of us, he finally got around and exercised his god-given right to cosplay NASCAR on “his” road. And wiped out a few minutes later, literally ending up in the woods beside the road. I haven’t laughed this hard in a while, and I’m still chuckling this morning. Judging from the airbags and debris field, it was totaled. Hopefully a lesson learned, albeit the hard way.
I’ve finally removed the last of our “diesel eco-system”, finding a new home for the fuel that was drained and/or stored. I didn’t want to waste it by going to the haz-mat center, and gave it to a small business that was doing some work for us. They can use it in their trucks. Pretty sure this will be reflected in the next bill from them – owner’s a good guy and will remember.
Today is mostly “chllage”, just watching movies and reading my latest book. Most everything that was pending is out of the way (taxes, truck stuff, etc.). Hope everyone has a good day!
Showered and dressed. I think we’ll be going to the boat tomorrow since it’s supposed to get close to 60°. I looked at the weather radar forecast - we’ll probably see rain around noon. But so far, the winter weather warnings have been a nothingburger.
We’re going to take MIL out to lunch, just to get her out of the house for a while. She doesn’t handle being alone very well, and BIL isn’t much company.Wish we could take her to a movie, but since she can’t see and her hearing is marginal, it’d be 2 hours of sitting in the dark for her. Maybe we can find something else going on.
Today would have been my dad’s 93rd b-day. Even if he hadn’t had the heart attack 20 years ago, I doubt he’d have lived this long. But Mom is still hanging in there. It’s interesting to see how each woman has handled widowhood. My mom kinda took a deep breath and got on with life, tho to be fair, I don’t remember how long it took her to adjust. It’s been just shy of 2 months, and MIL is still in a muddle. Then again, my folks were married 50 years, in-laws were married 72 years. Anyway, random thoughts…
I was so tired that I went to bed, and fell asleep, at 9pm. This means I’ve been awake since 5-ish. It snowed overnight but the roads are clear. Went to convenient care yesterday and got a UTI diagnosis and antibiotics. This UTI is kinda wiping me out so I’m canceling my riding lesson. Sadly, after I made this morning’s coffee I realized that I don’t have enough for tomorrow so I must get dressed and get some Dunkin. Maybe a doughnut also because I feel sorry for myself.
