Caffeine addicted MMP

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 22 degrees, dark and cloudy. The expected high is 40 and we are being threatened with overnight snow showers after things cool down again. The expected accumulation will be a couple of inches at most, but different areas will see more or less. The area I live in is filled with little microclimates due to all the hills, mountains, and Puget (Salish) Sound. Often the Olympic Peninsula is covered with snow while we receive none, and then things flip-flop. The same holds true for northern, central, and southern parts of Puget Sound. Often Johnny’s area is blanketed in snow and ice and we get dumped on, and then it’s reversed.

I got my hair done-did yesterday and then went and picked up lunch for my husband and me. I should have stopped for gas before getting my haircut, but I didn’t. So, now I’ll have to go out today and fuel up the Jeep for Monday’s commute. I had enough fuel for last Wednesday’s commute, but I’m down to my last 80 miles or so on the tank, which is way, way low for my comfort. I like to fuel it up as it hits the halfway mark.

pullin, just wow! That damage is insane!

nellie, you did all you could and there is no need to feel guilty.

I watched all of the new season of F1 on Netflix yesterday after my haircut. Such a rich man’s sport. Out of curiosity, I looked up ticket prices for F1 races. Yeah, that’s something I’ll never attend. I’m not a racing fan per se, but I like the behind scenes things they show. That organization is cutthroat, but given the billions spent, I see why.

I’m not sure what I plan to do today. I’d like to get out of the house and DO something, but I’m not sure what. I don’t feel like sitting around all day, and I don’t really have any chores to accomplish. And, it’s way too cold for yard work. Besides, there is still snow on the ground in my yard.

Okay, going to finish my coffee and cruise the internet for awhile.

I hope you all have a terrific day!

The intake air comes right from the apartment and the heat is distributed via in-apartment ductwork, with the fan also located in the apartmen, unless I’m missing something.

Heading out to the Arboretum today for the spring flower show. Nice sunny day in Big Minnie and we need some fresh air.

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and trying to get warm (it’s 47F outside, but damp and rainy and I just can’t seem to get warm). Nothing big on the agenda today except picking up a prescription.

I didn’t sleep worth a darn last night. I drank a big glass of tea when I took Nelson to the dog park and for a ride on top of the usual fluid and caffeine and was up and down all night.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

She’s still alive, and still fairly smart, even if she’s a bit intimidated by computers. I just have to give my parents some encouragement that they won’t blow up their computers by accident, and they figure stuff out.

They probably wouldn’t have used sirens. And you did good.

@dogbutler :rofl:

And I just realized I forgot the bread for making garlic bread. Store will close soon, and probably they will be out of bread anyway. Maybe I’ll try making some. Or focaccia (not foccacia). Didn’t find the garlic, so we’re a bit low, but we have mozzarella and asiago.

Hubby’s convinced that antibiotics are often worse than the original problem. Do take it easy and enjoy the coffee and doughnut.

Today I got my hair cut, we took stuff to the recycling center, got gas, went to the beverage center, hubby went to one grocery store and then we went to another grocery store together, made lunch (teriaki chicken and green beans with jasmine rice), and now the washer’s working on the second load of clothing.

Need to still wash the sheets and hang them up to dry (there’s a drying room in the basement) and take a shower. The stylist prefers I don’t wash my hair before I go there. But I tend to wash it afterwards anyway - my eyes are very sensitive to scented products. She doesn’t use any mousse, hairspray or gel on my hair, but even the shampoo and conditioner can be a bit too much, or maybe it’s just because of everybody else getting hairspray, etc.

Mmm, tea. That sounds like a plan. Happy Saturday!

Ten degrees warmer this morning than it was yesterday morning. It’s up to 30º in the catio (weather dot com says 27º). 90% chance of snow this afternoon. It’s only a quarter to eight right now, and Mrs. L.A. is starting a fire already.

I hesitated to say something earlier but MetalMouse has a point especially since it took so long to clot. Perhaps your platelets are low. That’s what Hubs issue is. The Hemotologist gave us the diagnosis almost exactly a year ago: MDS aka Myelodisplastic Syndrome. It’s been a challenging year since and the Doc says it’s a lifetime condition; they can only treat the symptoms, not the cause

Ditto! And Ditto as to no need to feel guilty, you helped more than the woman in the car did and you have to consider your own health.
.
Met Hubs at Kroger gas after his blood draw to fill both cars at $1 off per gallon using gas points. Home and shoveled the 1/2" of snow off sidewalk, front porch and a small portion of driveway (just enough to walk to back door and park car). Lunch was leftover chicken salad in a tortilla with shredded cheddar and tomato.

Spartans are in Iowa to play the Hawkeyes in 1/2 hr so will have to go soon. Go GREEN!

Bah!

Just finished my stupid taxes. I had to pay this year which annoyed the hell out of me. Granted it wasn’t much, but seeing as how I pay to file with TurboTax my tax bill was an extra 90-something dollars higher. It could have been worse, but it’s still annoying AF.

At any rate, the taxes are done and just waiting for IRS to accept them and my payment.

Still need to get out and fuel up the Jeep. Maybe I’ll do that in a couple of hours.

Morning all. Clock said 9:30am when I rolled out of bed today, so sleepage has been more than adequate. Have downloaded pictures from my cellphone to my computer and am working on getting the ones from my camera to the computer now (apparently left the thing on, so need to re-charge the battery first). Then still have 2-3 things to get from the store (every time I think I have re-stocked I find something else…) and get the Firday swimmin-n-sauna in today. In the 50’s again but less chance for rain.

nellie, you were in an impossible position and I for one think you did the best you could have done. And there are other good people out there too, so he probably got the help he needed.

wet one, ugh, hope you get to feeling better. Doughnuts are always a good idea.

yankers, outside of hoping driver and any passengers are OK, I share your schadenfreude as to the NASCAR wanna-be.

Taters, never understood why people watch F 1 racing; times I’ve seen it on TV it’s just one car, then a few seconds later another car, and 10 seconds after that maybe two cars…over and over and over. NASCAR has it’s faults, but at least you see all the cars within a few seconds of each other.

FCM, yeah, old people adjust differently. My dad was completely lost without Mom, I’m sure it helped trigger his dementia and decline. People are just built different.

red, thanks for the advice, I have a phone charger in the car already, but never thought about connecting the phone to the car systems…

Alright, need to see if the battery is charged back up and get those photos downloaded, so I can start the editing process prior to posting. Take care all.

Mi Esposa didn’t want me to cook her any breakfast this morning (she had yoghurt with granola in it), so I made a BLAT for me. Three rashers and half an avocado, on toast.

The annual Fur Rendezvous festival started in Anchorage today. Three days of sprint dog races (25 miles per day), fur auctions, blanket toss, etc. It was one of the highlights for us during the long Alaskan winter. It’s followed by the Iditarod, which is the more famous of the two, but that race has attracted a very small number of entrants this year, likely the fallout from covid. Training, feeding, and mushing dogs is a very expensive hobby. I remember when local guys were the heroes. Men like George Atla from Huslia were names everyone knew when I was a kid.

This actually probably belongs in the Sports forum.

We took MIL and our daughter and her brood out to lunch at Texas Roadhouse. On the way to take MIL home, it started snowing - for maybe 15-20 minutes. On our way home, it was just drizzly and when I stopped to fill the car, it was the kind of cold that just crept to the bone - brrrrrr!

But we’re home, dry, and vegging for the rest of the day. I’ve had a hankerin’ for cake - I might try to make a small one. Or not. Depends on how motivated I feel.

Howdy Y’all! I made some tuna sallit this mornin’, so I was productive for almost forty-five minutes! Go Me! Outside of that ‘tis been the usual sloth and general overall uselessness. We did achieve nappage, however. Gonna go fire up the grill in a bit for the chikin. I’m commencin’ to be hongry!

MOOOOOOM you know you have to make the cake. Once the hankerin’ sets in, nuttin’ will do but cake.

According to weather.com, it’s supposed to start snowing in about 20 minutes. Should turn to a rain/snow mix at 04:00 tomorrow.

That sounds good. I think I’ll make some. Solid albacore, Best Foods mayonnaise, and celery. And jalapeños on top. The cats will like the tuna water.

Goodness, gracious, great balls of ice! That is amazing.

Today is touch ups and tape and fix. I’m hoping to get one section done tonight to put some furniture in place. I’ve smoothed down the spackle area and will be able to paint that tomorrow.

The dragon blood and dragon breath ( must be really bad breath!),are from Benjamin Moore, just tap it into the search on their site. The jade dragon is from Sherman Williams. Acropolis is a discontinued ace hardware colour. I’m gonna try to find a spot for blue dragon from Benjamin Moore. I do like dragons!

My flat is in my colour pallet of blue, green, black, gray. My architect friend said I had to have some orange/red to break up the green. I pointed to koritza, she said no. I pointed to the floor, she said no. So that is where the dragon blood comes into a very small bump out in the wall.

Mrs Morty is something of a hoarder. No where near as bad as what you see on that TV show but certainly in the running. When she goes off on vacation I use her absence as an opportunity to make stuff ‘disappear’. She’s off in sunny CA, probably on our rich relative’s sail boat at the moment. Today I decided to take the opportunity and challenge of purging the pantry.

I won’t go into why she’s in CA whilst I’m freezing my ass off in WI, that’s a long story and largely irrelevant to what follows.

Among other things, the pantry many duplicate containers of spices. I found 9 containers of ground cinnamon, 7 of thyme, 5 celery salt, 4 celery seed, 6 ground mustard, 4 mustard seed, 3 minced onion, 7 onion powder, 2 cans of condensed milk, two bricks of Crisco… you get the idea. All of it is way past its prime. Some of the expiration dates of this stuff go back as far as 2006.

I can understand how this happens. There’s a lot of crap in there and it takes some time to dig through. When she’s planning to cook something she won’t bother looking thru the pantry to see what’s already there. Whatever the recipe calls for gets purchased anew. That’s how we end up with 9 containers of ground cinnamon.

There are many, many more items headed for the trash. Mummified whole wheat tortillas, unopened jars of what used to be edible substances and Xmas candy that haunts like a Dickens’ novella. I’m surprised nothing has crawled out of the cupboard under it’s own power. Maybe semi-sentient stuff has escaped. That might explain our dog’s occasional and unexplainable panicked barking at 3 am.

I feel very bad and guilty for such blatant food wastage. Someone please make me feel a little better and tell me I’m not the only one.

What’s the worst, weirdest or best thing you discovered in the back of your cupboard or fridge?

My new mattress has arrived! Yay! I have to pole-vault onto my bed because it’s a few inches taller now, but I can tell by lying on it that it’s going to be better for my back. I tipped the delivery guys handsomely because it’s a bear hauling a mattress up and down the stairs. When I folded the mattress pad beforehand, I tried once again to fold it via Mooooom’s method for fitted sheets. I must have T-rex arms because I still couldn’t reach. Also, I’m a klutz.

Thanks for the words of reassurance, everyone. I feel better about last night. I felt responsible because the car lady kind of left him in my hands. (And kudos to her for noticing him and stopping.) Also, you can’t just shrug off someone in need. I think there’s a good chance the cops were able to find him and get things sorted out, as they knew he was headed to the UPS Store and his route. Hopefully he didn’t get confused. I do think he had dementia. I can’t imagine anyone letting a very old guy on a mobility scooter head out in the dark without reflective clothing or even a coat. I wonder if he lives alone.

My stomach has been killing me since last night. I woke up at 1 a.m. with chills, but they’re gone now. I don’t feel nauseous. It just hurts. Probably stress.

Here’s happy news. Yesterday the Verizon people wiped the new phone for me. There was a $50 restocking fee, but I’m thinking of it as phone rental. Anyway, the screen protector was scuffed up, but they didn’t have any replacements in stock, so they sent me across the way to a Livit store. It’s $40 (!) for a screen protector, but you can get unlimited replacements for $10. They had so much trouble finding the right one that after they applied it, they gave it to me for free! I hadn’t been complaining, either. Yay!

Yanker, unbelievable! The hail must have been the size of basketballs! How long did it hail? Were many people injured?

I’m going to look up all those colors. Who knew dragons came in so many colors?

I have yet to do mine. You should reward yourself for getting them done without throwing heavy objects.

But I tend to wash it afterwards anyway
[/quote] I used to happily wear my newly-styled hair, but then my stylist moved away, and now I have his mom. Somehow I always end up looking like a 70s politician’s wife, so now I wash it to get it into it’s usual tumbled haystack. Do scented cleaning products also hurt your eyes? It’s so hard to avoid scented stuff

Ditto. Just gotta burn it to a CD and hand deliver it to my CPA. I just organize the info, put it on a CD and let her do the heavy lifting.

Morty, I usually don’t store much and do check the dates periodically, so I don’t have a good story to share, but I absolutely love your descriptions of what you found. A man with a sense of humor can get far in life, IMHO.

nellie, yea! for the mattress. And if the stomach pains continue, get them checked out, might be the start of an ulcer (or something else). And double yea! for the phone freebie.

rocky, looked up the colors, they are nice, but I do wonder who comes up with all those names for all these colors for every paint manufacturer…could be a full-time job.

FCM, no snow, but it has been raining all day here. The Weather Wizards say it will be back in the 70’s by Monday, but then rain is due to knock us back into the 50’s.

Cookie, one of the highlights of my Alaska cruise last year was visiting a sled dog camp and getting a ride. The dogs don’t look much like Huskies of our imagination, but boy could they pull!! And I got to cradle a 2-week old puppy… :dog: :dog: :dog:

Well, I did make it to the gym and got some swimming and sauna time in, but then made the mistake of going to Kroger to pick up some stuff and the Girl Scouts ambushed me, so I have way to many cookies in my stomach and dinner will be abbreviated…

Have downloaded the pictures from my cellphone, but the new camera I got is being stubborn, so I may move the card to one of my old cameras and see if I can download from there. Otherwise not much to report from Casa Rat. Take care all.

2 bookcases are in place. They are dark cherry wood so they look nice next to dragon breath and acropolis. The touch up went well. I will not trust the cutting in tool and will tape up for tomorrow. 5 book cases to move around tomorrow.

Advil is my bff.

I believe they come up with paint names during a drunken weekend.

Howdy Y’all! We have supped and cleanded up the kitchen. Sloth and chillage have been resumed. I shall sloth less tomorrow as I have Verge duty and then a Search Committee meetin’ after deheathenization.

Rocker apparently our color scheme is dragon breath and dragon blood. Who knew! Da cave is painted in a light and a dark gray.

Nellie yay for the new mattress. The new mattress we bought in January sets up higher than the old one. Also yay for the free screen protector. Hope the tummy is feelin’ better.

Mort We now stock way less than we use to stock. Don’t feel bad about tossin’ the way expired stuff. It’s most likely not safe for consumption at this point. Plus, it’s best to get rid of it before it becomes sentient.
