lol i actually have that on tape my aunt gets a kick out of it
Grate up a head and sauté with your favorite cooking oil in a covered pan for 6-8 minutes. It doesn’t keep well, so press the moisture out of the leftover rice and then freeze it. I wouldn’t keep it for longer than a couple of weeks because the texture degrades.
Hubs is low carb and I am cheap, LOL!
I keep wanting to see it again, but I haven’t watched it in 40 years.
I’m cooking for a diabetic, so low-carb is good.
(Probably won’t hurt me any, either). Recently, I seem to feel a lot more motivated to cook at home, for both financial and nutritional reasons (DH isn’t much of a cook). We’ve been DoorDashing a little too much lately, really. I hope the grater attachment on my KitchenAid will do, since using a box grater tends to leave my knuckles a little raw :).
The world has become a much scarier place in the last few years, and cooking is a form of nesting so I get it.
Plus, cooking at home is usually much better for you because home cooks don’t add a bunch of calorie laden flavor enhancers. You kids will probably both start working again soon, so maybe you might want to look at low carb crock pot recipes. It is so nice to come home after work and not have to mess around with dinner.
And…crap…I knew that the Crabby Old Cat wasn’t doing well, but hubs (who is the one who feeds him) says that he has stopped eating his gooshy fud. The little guy is old and in kidney failure. We put him in kitty hospice a couple of weeks ago, but some of our cats have lived quite a while on treat food and pampering, but that’s not the case with COC. We both haz sads over this.

On the good news side, I was looking through the Gmail I use for things like job-hunting, and had an offer letter from the company I interviewed with on Friday. Remote (no commute), pays better than Hades Annex would ever have dreamed of, and the benefits look good. I do not yet know if I’m allowed to discuss my employer in an online setting (I know people who got fired from Hades Annex for mentioning the name of their employer online), but they describe themselves as “diversified financial services and consulting firm”, and I’ll be doing order entry and customer service. Start date is 6 March (must do some domestic plow-out while I have time!).
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 59 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and mostly cloudy for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by a search committee meetin’. I think we will take separate vehicles today as I am sure OYKW will not want to hang around and wait on me. Can’t blame him for that. Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of stuff to make sammiches, chips, etc.
JtC I am so sorry about Crabby Old Cat. It’s sad to watch a fur baby in decline.
sari glad Ripple is relatively OK. Still hope he goes into remission. Also, hope all the estate drama is over and done with soonest.
Nettie conga rats on the gig offer! Is this the one you are really wantin’?
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Well, this is the one that wanted me, and I’m not seeing any red flags so far, so it’s good.

Congrats!!
sari - I am so sorry you’re dealing with so much estate crap. As rough as things have been for my sweetie, at least he’s not having to deal with ridiculous demands from idiot siblings.
Slept in till nearly 7 - if I didn’t have a dog that needed to go out to pee, I’d have stayed in bed. Oh well - quiet time for a while. When I headed to brush my teeth, I saw 3 deer in the back yard - EATING MY NEWLY SPROUTED FLOWERS!!! DAMMIT!! I opened the window and yelled, and they bolted, but I think at least one of them pooped by the garden. Stoopit deer.
It’s overcast, but we’re supposed to have a relatively mild day. The plan is to consider the boat in sections and make lists of things that have to be done and things we want to do.
After we get home, we’ll decide the order of attack, and also research what some of the items will cost. Some things can’t be done for a while, others we could probably do today - like bringing home some of the accumulated crap in the aft cabin. There’s also an accumulation in the garage to sort and deal with. We’ve got about a dozen life jackets that we don’t need - the previous owner had almost 20 aboard and there’s no way we’d ever take that many people out with us. So lots of work/fun ahead!
Tomorrow, a roofing guy is coming over to tell us what it’ll cost to have the shop roof fixed. And FCD will go for his first (I hope) grief counseling session. He was telling me it’s really hard to go to his mom’s apartment because that’s where he sat with his dad as he died. I hope the senior apartment comes open soon - both to get away from this one and to get her closer to us.
Speaking of MIL - last night I signed her up for the Food Lion MVP card. They’ll mail her one, but in the meantime, she can use her phone number to get the good sale prices. I need to let her know what’s going on. And another good deed done. ![]()
Anyway, Happy Last Sunday of February!!
Good morning everyone. Up and working on my allowed coffee allotment. Cold here but rain is gone for a while.
There were verified claims of 6 inches across, according to the news, but most were golfball sized with a few baseball-sized. Winds were over 80 mph and (IIRC) there were more than 32,000 insurance claims from that particular storm. I don’t recall many injuries though – I think most around here take hail very seriously and get to shelter.
Even WaPo covered it:
Here’s a video about some of it:
We had contractors underfoot repairing stuff for almost 8 months. It even destroyed several trees. The storm hit near the end of April. The last contractor packed up and left just before Christmas. Despite having (literally) dozens of workmen and occasionally their families wandering through the house, absolutely nothing was stolen or missing. We gave up on security and threw the doors wide, taking the stance of: “mi casa, su casa”. Told everyone to help themselves to the fridge and bathrooms as needed. I’m pretty sure my own family would have absconded with some loot, but these folks touched nothing. My opinion of my fellow earthlings got quite a boost because of this. I’m still smiling about it.
If anyone’s bored, our hailstorms can even get their own Wikipedia page.
Oh well, sorry about the hailjack! On to the day: re-installing and adjusting a trailer hitch, and probably a few hours of noisy involvement with my lawn. It’s already growing out of control. I guess it’s that time of year, right?
Hope everyone has a good day.
The character “Flower” looks and sounds just like my high school sweetheart from circa 1969 -1970
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It 47 and cloudy, but it’s supposed to be warmer today.Cleaning and sloth are on the agenda

The dragon blood color is close to the color of my living room curtains, which may have a color name, but I have no clue. Like the color palette.
That is awesome. Considering how much phones cost, that’s really good news, on top of getting your original phone back.
I always make sure to have good ventilation when cleaning, and to keep exposure time to a minimum. I do a lot of spray and let it sit. I also tend to use white vinegar when possible.
Good luck. Sounds like you have the skills (and perseverance) to clean up the mess.
{{{sari}}} Sounds like you really need a break. Glad to hear Ripple’s doing well.
{{{JtC}}} Sorry to hear about COC. Seems to a bad time for mumper pets.
Congrats on the offer Nettie - that’s great news!
Yesterday I got out the food processor, which I hate cleaning. So I used it for a few things:
3 pie crusts
1 batch of dough for brownie cut-out cookies
1 batch of cheese straws (never made them before, but I think SOMEONE mentioned them recently and I came across a recipe)
After a week of spring, we woke up to sub-freezing temperatures, so it’s a good day to stay inside.
Today I already made tacos for lunch, and now I’m goint to bake the cookie dough from yesterday, put together pumpkin filling and bake it in one of the pie crusts from yesterday (the other two went into the freezer) and make a lemon poppy seed loaf. That’s in addition to cleaning the bathroom sinks, the shower, the kitchen counters and floor, and walking to the farm to buy eggs.
It’s nice to get all the paperwork (taxes, mainly) done - then I have more time to do other things.
Guess better get baking.
Happy Sunday!
I’m glad that Ripple is having no ill effects from the meds sari. I hope that he goes into remission. It sounds like you have your hands full with your family.
Conga rats on the job offer seanette! As far as the casserole, they lost me at the riced cauliflower. I’m weird like that.
{{{JtC, hubs, COC, VBC and GG}}} It’s so hard to have your critters nearing the end.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, have begun a small project in the studio and put three more CDs into my MP3 player.
I picked up an inexpensive MP3 player a couple of months ago because I’m sitting on a whole mess of CDs that I used to listen to at my irk desk or in my car. At this point, listening to them at my irk station is no longer viable and I haven’t owned a car with a CD player in it for 4.5 years. In fact, the only ways that I even have of playing them is on a desktop with crap sound quality. I have music downloaded from the internet on my phone, but I can’t take that past security at irk, but can take an MP3 with no wifi capability. Slowly, but surely, the music that I’ve collected over the years (sometimes on more than one format) is making the transition.
Time to do breakfast / lunch prep and KP.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Last night I dreamed a possum, a skunk, and a racoon had babies, and they were crawling in and out of my bedroom window. Apparently I should cut back on watching FCM’s sister’s critter cam posts on FB(although it was amusing to watch dream skunk carry around 3 possums, a skunk and a baby trash panda on her back).
Up and at ‘em. The kids are making breakfast which will be home fries, grits, bacon, sausage and homemade buttermilk biscuits. And of course eggs. For later we are cooking our home grown collards and a poke loin. Guess we are eating good today.
Sorry about kitty JTC. Yay for new job Nettie. Continued hugs and good thoughts for Sari and Ripple.
Happy Sunday everyone!
JtC. I’m sorry about CoC.
Yesterday I felt really bad. Took 2 naps and even though I was wearing sweatpants, a waffle shirt, was under 3 blankets with the space heater about 2 inches away, my teeth were chattering. Eventually I took my temp and yes, I had a low grade fever. The fever broke at some point in the night since I am sweaty and gross and the thermometer read normal.
Morning all. Rain has stopped and the temperature is supposed to get to the mid-60’sF, so that is good. Got the last printed newspaper from the local folks, they are going fully digital now and I will mourn, for I have always been a person who likes having a newpaper (or two) in-hand in the morning. Ah well, I guess I’ll adjust as I have to so many changes, but I’ll miss the newsprint all the same.
{{Sari}}, it never ends with family, does it? Probably do need to talk with Niece #1, it’ll help having at least someone who can relay your concerns, even if the others don’t listen. And Cerby sounds like a dog who would be better in an outdoor setting, but with his background, you are probably doing better than most folks would. Take care.
Nettie, good news on the job front but like it has been said before “trust but verify”. Hope it turns out to be a good one.
JtC, sorry to hear about COC. And yeah, when one person has done the finances for 10 years, even if they are completely honest, they ge to thinking it’s their money and they can be fast and loose with the accounting. Best of luck digging it out.
yankers, I’ve been in a few hailstorms in my life, but nothing like those. Glad nobody was hurt.
FCM, would it be polite to say “Oh dear” as to your flowers. And look at the poop as addiitional fertilizer…

I’m pretty much in the unscented camp, but truth be told I don’t pay that much attention to them, but if it’s there in big bold letters I’ll give it a pass.
Did manage to download my Antarctica pictures from my Camera, but the quality varies a lot and it’ll take some time and editing to get them together, so patience all. Did get a couple good clips with the video part of my cellphone, need to edit them a bit (however you do that).
OK, onward into the morning. Longhorn is on the list today for dinner, then maybe a stop at Barnes and Noble for a SF book that just came out, so that should keep me out of trouble for awhile. Everyone have a good Sunday
