Caffeine addicted MMP

I don’t think there’s much difference, except the price.

I know some of you are probably tired of all my in-law tales, but this one cracks me up, so I shall share it. You have been warned…

Eons ago when they were first married, my in-laws got their electricity from a co-op somewhere in Indiana. I don’t know all the details, but apparently, you’re a member for life and when you die, your estate can claim some shares back. MIL has been reminding us of this forever - I remember her talking about it just after FCD and I married 39 years ago! She was absolutely obsessed that we not forget about this cash bonanza.

I suspect the co-op counts on people not remembering so they get to keep the money, but I digress…

Since the original account was in FIL’s name, MIL did whatever paperwork was required to claim the funds. A grand total of (wait for it) $69!!!

Yep. You can see why I had to share!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 13c/55f with no predicted change today, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Is it partly cloudy or partly sunny? Who fucking gives a shit?” Well, I think it’s mostly sunny as it has been shining through the office window all day and making it hard to see my screens.

I am not a coffee drinker, I have to really want coffee and that rarely happens. I can be relied upon to almost always have a cup of tea to hand when I’m working though, English Breakfast in the morning and then a switch to decaff later because I am another one who has trouble sleeping after too much caffeine.

Moooom that share of the co-op’s funds is definitely worth telling the world about! My mum would have said something’s better than nothing

rocker good luck with paint prep! I quite enjoy throwing a paintbrush around but the prep stage is tedious to me. I doubt either of our cats would be interested in helping either, Shadow regards that as an interruption of his napping time, and Whisper would run away from the sound of a paint tin being opened. He is a particularly stupid cat, but he’s fluffy and cute so we forgive him.

GodBod I hope the nephew has found somewhere safe to get over that shock!

Taters congrats on the dump run, it might be a pain to organise it but it’s so satisfying when you can toss the old stuff out.

Busy day at irk today, I have done a few things but had some meetings so it’s not been a day of great achievements, and I will be heading home in 45 minutes. On the plus side, the weather is pleasant enough (and light!!) for a walk home from the railway station through the local park near us. I haven’t been through the park since winter started because it’s been too dark when I have been going to and from town, and the park is not exactly the safest place in the dark. Yay for lighter evenings!

Happy Moonday!

It was a nice 45 degrees at the park this morning.
At least the weather was nice.
I don’t enjoy the park anymore.
I make myself go because it makes Ripple happy and Cerby tired.
It makes Echo happy too, but not in the same way. She wants to go and gets excited, but she doesn’t get depressed like Ripple does if we don’t go.
If Ripple doesn’t go to the park, he mopes around all day with his head hanging down.
Echo had to show her ass again. Somebody came in with two pitties and she had to go after the bigger one. Fortunately, he took it as rough play and soon the two of them were having fun chasing each other around the park.

However, there is still drama and I am so sick of drama.
Park drama, Estate drama, Ripple’s cancer
I have a bunch of medical stuff that needs to get done, and it’s all taken a backseat to everything else.

I’ve started cooking for the dogs, going holistic with Ripple. Of course, the other two get home cooked food, and now the cat wants it too.
It smells nasty, I simmer meat, organ meat, and veggies in bone broth.
That gets added to cottage cheese with salmon oil. Ripple gets other supplements mixed in.
Then they get ice cream for dessert on Palladia nights.
I won’t cook for myself, but I’ll cook for them.

I don’t like coffee. Tea is okay when I’m in the mood.
The only caffeine I get is from a coke, and since I mostly gave them up, I’m fairly caffeine free.
Caffeine won’t keep me up at night though, I think I’m immune to its effects.

I wish something would wake me up. All I do is sleep.
I think that is from the stress.

This would be me too. Started drinking coffee in the dorm cafeteria to stay awake to cram for papers and projects in college. Then, I added sugar and cream. I soon started drinking it black to save time and fuss.

Now my coffee comes out of a Keurig, with usually Folgers in a reusable k-cup pod. Occasionally I’ll have a flavored coffee pod or a decaf pod, since I absolutely can’t have coffee later than about 3 or I won’t be able to fall asleep. I do have fancy beans I can grind for a fancy cup on special occasions. Currently my special beans are maple flavored. In the house I have French presses, Melitta pour overs, Toddy cold press maker and an old Mr. Coffee drip maker. I have an old time Corningware stovetop percolator on hand if the electricity goes out.

I try to keep it to two mugs a day, which often slides to three, especially in the cold months. That is probably pushing it health wise for blood pressure and stomach acid reasons. If I have to, I’ll switch to straight decaf cause I ain’t giving up my morning coffee-it’s the ritual that gives morning meaning.

Mumble grumble cats can’t seem to stop bugging each other. Sitting at my desk to do a blood sugar check and a chase comes flying through over my feet, head for the bathroom and there’s a feline pursuit following me in…

DH needs to call his preferred temp people today for an appointment to go in and do paperirk, since it’s been so long since he last worked for them. I get to come along and help with that. Yay. (He’s quite intelligent, but seems to have difficulty with forms, so I typically help him with that where I can.) We’ve also gotta get his unemployment filed. Rest of the day TBD.

Need to get around more of this can of Major Melon Mt. Dew Zero.

We had a similar thing in Alaska and didn’t even know it. Can’t remember how we found out about it, but when we went to see about claiming the money, we found out that they only pay out every ten years or something and ours would be about $6 if we wanted to claim it. Not worth the paperwork, thanks.

Damn girl! with the day you’re gonna have, you need some major treats too. Swing by and grab your favorite lunch to fortify yourself.

Shamrock Shakes are available as of today, I’m told. They’re definitely on the agenda too.

That would be just the ticket. You deserve an extra large after the double dose of paperwork!

Got about an inch of snow this morning and went out to get a few staples we’re low on in anticipation of the Big Dump that’s coming. Will probably cancel our planned trip out to the Arboretum on Wednesday, not that it was a big thrill for me in the first place.

The wife wants to make jelly donuts today in observance of some Polish ritual or other, so I’ll be drafted into that effort.

I had a medical check-up first thing this morning. I’ve already received an automated email from my insurance provider saying they have received the Physicians Results Form, so my $100 Amazon gift card qualification is in the works.

The downside is it was too early for breakfast and I was getting pretty hungry. It’s now 09:30, and I’ve just finished off a Vegemite sandwich with sharp cheddar.

Well, the taxes are done for another year. Signed up with TurboTax and it took about 90 minutes to do both Federal and Local (I wasted some time on itemized deductions, they are always lower than the Standard Deduction since I don’t have a mortgage anymore, but I still fuss with them. Not getting rich but it’s a nice little bonus for the spring–paid the Turbotax bill from the money the USG will be sending me, so don’t have to worry about that. Now need to work up the ambition to go to the gym and get that routine started again.

flyboy, nice to get a bonus for finding out you’re healthy. Oh, and…

Do you come from a land down under?

Cookie, jelly donuts sound a lot nicer than an incipient snowstorm…

FCM, sounds like a couple checks I got from some class-action suit…something like $3.98.

Sari, hope the drama decreases during the Spring. Sounds like Ripple is still enjoying life. And one of these days Echo is going to pick on the wrong pooch…

God Bod, that’s terrible and hope BF’s nephew gets some conseling, sounds like he’s going to need it.

Taters, sounds like I need to clean out my garage. Don’t really have a dump I can take it too, they have a Monday pickup here for stuff like that, if you can get it to the curb; if i could just find somewhere to dump my old lawnmower that would save a bunch of space.

rocky, glad lager is doing well. May painting go well without too much help from your pets…

boo fae, yeah, I noticed the daylight is staying around a little longer these days. Enjoy the park.

OK, see if I can get past the bed and not fall in it while trying to dress for the gym…take care all.

We make cold brew at home, and I consume that every AM on ice with half & half. Sometimes I’ll have a lesser amount in early afternoon. I love the flavor of cold brewed coffee, not bitter at all.

For about 2 decades I was an espresso fiend and learned how to make a damn good shot at home, but eventually it was just too much work, with too few godshots (1 in 4). That led me to cold brewing.

Howdy Y’all! We have slothed and accomplished nappage. In a bit we shall head over to the church house for steak time. Bundles of energy we are!

GodBod hope the BF’s nephew is doin’ OK and is somewhere safe. What an awful thing to happen to him!

MOOOOOOM my own mom got sump’n around three k from their local coop after my dad died. It was a total surprise to her as the coop let her know about it when she was switchin’ the name on the account from his name to her name.

sari glad Ripple is still enjoyin’ himself. My mom always cooked for their dogs. It was ground beast and rice with an aig mixed in. Also, whenever mom and dad had steak, those spoiled rotten dogs got half a steak each. Two of the most spoiled rotten dogs ever!

MetalMouse glad you are reacclimatin’ to your routine. Good on you for gettin’ your taxes done. We have an appointment with the accountant on Thursday to take care of ours. Could probably do 'em ourselves, but we are too slothful.

Rocker good look with paintin’. That’s another thing we don’t do due to bein’ highly slothful.

Nettie may all the paperirk go smoothly.

Taters yay on the dump run. Feels good to get rid of junk does it not!

Cookie stay snug and warm. Re the snow, better thee than me.

Yes, filing his UI claim was good for much cursing and ingestion of chocolate, but it’s done (WHY do government agencies go out of their way to make the paperirk such a pain?). Temp agency paperirk will happen tomorrow.

Shamrock shakes will happen today. Still awaiting PopUpClown’s fish sandwiches, which an employee at the one we had lunch at Saturday said should be this week.

SWMBO requested I hold off on the jambalaya until Wednesday. We don’t wear ashes on our heads, so it’s OK to eat it then.

Just drove through my McDs (for the cheapest possible dollar menu lunch). They are advertising Oreo Shamrock shakes! They look scrumptious. Have at it!

Boo I’ve found that using the mobile app gets even cheaper.

flyboy I’m interested in your jambalaya recipe. I usually go the cheating way and use Zatarain’s.

I tried to post this this morning, but the internet was down.

Happy Presidents Day! May all your presidents be happy! Except that one guy. Screw him.

After waffling for two years, I made the leap and ordered a new mattress. My current one is an old cheapo that hasn’t aged well. I should have bought one two years ago before inflation hit, but oh, well. They’ll haul off my old mattress, which is a blessing because I’m only 5’2, so even if I could walk it to the dump, it’d look like the mattress had feet, which might startle drivers… I guess I could’ve strapped it to the roof of a pal’s car(To the Mattmobile, Robin!), but it’s a queen size, so…a pain. Anyway, delivery guys will also haul the new one up the stairs and onto the box springs. It arrives Saturday.

Question: Do you flip your mattress? I can only rotate mine horizontally because the bottom is made of gauzy material. I notice that most mattresses have a special top, like a Keep Cool Comfort Cover, so maybe flipping isn’t a thing any more?

I drink coffee about once a week. I love it, but it used to upset my stomach, so I never built up a caffeine tolerance. Then I discovered Kava. It only comes as instant, and I loathe instant coffee, but shockingly, this one really tastes like brewed. I add a shot of sugar-free caramel flavoring. Some of you are really hard core and coffee connoisseurs! I tip my hat.

…Next thing I knew, I was mainlining Folgers and selling Jolt to kids at recess to fund my habit.

godbod, glad the bf’s nephew is safe now. How old is he? I hope your bf can be a healing presence in his life.

FCM, I always find your in-law stories interesting. And hey, if it takes less than 60 minutes to do the paperwork, $69 isn’t a bad hourly wage.

I’ve been starting the day with a cup of coffee since I was 9 years old. The only reason I know that is because I started drinking it the morning after my granddad died. My mom and grandmother were getting things ready for the visitation and they left us kids alone in the basement of the funeral home with one of those commercial machines that contained two burners: one with a pot of hot water and the other with a giant pot of coffee. Their intention was probably that we make hot chocolate from the packets next to the cups, but that didn’t dawn on me at the time.

Anyway, I was supposed to work today but just woke from a 2-hour nap. I was up until almost 5 a.m. yesterday/this morning because the girl had a high fever and I was hacking up a lung thanks to having the tail end of some crud the boy brought home. I worked for a couple of hours, slapped on a mask and went to get mom to take her to the oncologist (she also wore a mask in my car). Things went well (yay!), we came home and I realized there was no practical way for me to function workwise today. So I got some rest instead and I’m glad I did.

So there.
