As for the nephew’s age? One. One year old.
We have several ways to make coffee and I have some bottled fraps tucked away in case all of the other methods don’t work. I doubt we will ever have to resort to them, but I don’t think our marriage would survive a morning without coffee.
Those are pretty plants, do you grow your own?
Nope, never. I remember helping mom flip the mattresses when she changed the sheets, but I moved out and bought a waterbed so haven’t flipped a mattress since I was 17. The mattress in the spare room doesn’t look like it should be flipped, I don’t think mattresses today need to be flipped, but what do I know?
Wow, GodBod, I hope things get better for the little guy.
That is so sad. Why do hoomans have to mess everything up?
No surprise there.
That’s the sort of thing I’d drag to the street and leave with a free sign. Lawnmowers tend to have a lot of metal and scrappers love that.
It’s another beautiful day and i have the windows open. I also put some peanuts out for the jays so VBC will have someone to argue with. I drove by the community center today just because I wanted to look at the purty roof again. They did a great job of cleaning up, I was prepared to wander the parking lot picking up bits and pieces of detritus but I didn’t even need to get out of the car.
Diablo IV beta will be out March 17th so I’ll be a widow for a few months. It’s all good, my mystery class starts in April, so I won’t miss him too much, LOL!
GG was “helping” me wrap a gift so I stuck a bow on his head and promptly broke the cat. The bow was so heavy that it knocked him over and he couldn’t move anything but his eyeballs while he was trying to figure out how to look at the top of his head. Hubs heard me laughing and rescued GG and carried him away while calling me a meanie. I still used the bow, the gift is for a two year old who won’t notice a few hairs.
That was fast on the roof JtC!
metal mouse, I do have an alarm clock in my bedroom for the simple fact that I can read it without my glasses. ![]()

Nelson got a bit loud when I got home this afternoon. I got home a few minutes earlier than usual (no school zone today) and the theme to All Things Considered was playing when I stepped in the door. I know from car trips that he sings along with that, but usually don’t get home in time to witness it on a daily basis.
Work mornings, I make a 20 oz drip pot of coffee to sip for breakfast and take to irk with me in the travel mug. I use 2 tsp of stevia and a double shot of milk in it. Weekends, a pot of French press or a couple of double shots of espresso, either with warm milk and stevia or cold milk, stevia and ice starts the day. I also tend to drink a cup of tea in the afternoon at irk and a glass of iced tea when I get home. If I do more caffeine after supper, I don’t sleep.
Irked and it was a !@#$ing Monday all !@#$ing day. Tomorrow will likely be more of the same.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Ms-lucky-to-not-be-married-to-Kody-brown “latest flare of gout”
My husband had a bad flare-up just before Christmas so a friend bought him a couple 1/2 gallons of cherry juice. Seemed to help.
Also, I don’t know your normal nickname, hope you are not offended by what I used today. ![]()
FCM What??? Tired of in-law tales??? no, we crave them. ![]()
Unfortunately I do not have room for a garden, and even if I did, I do not live in a good climate for the species.
flyboy I’m interested in your jambalaya recipe. I usually go the cheating way and use Zatarain’s.
Here’s the recipe. I have to admit I use a lot more of the Holy Trinity (onion, bell pepper, celery), and more of the chicken and andouille.
Ingredients
- 12 medium shrimp, peeled, deveined and chopped
 - 4 ounces chicken thigh, diced
 - 1 tablespoon Creole seasoning, recipe follows
 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
 - ¼ cup chopped onion
 - ¼ cup chopped green bell pepper
 - ¼ cup chopped celery
 - 2 tablespoons chopped garlic
 - ½ cup chopped tomatoes
 - 3 bay leaves
 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
 - 1 teaspoon hot sauce
 - ¾ cup rice
 - 3 cups chicken stock
 - 5 ounces Andouille sausage
 - Salt and pepper

Directions
In a bowl combine shrimp, chicken and Creole seasoning, and work in seasoning well. In a large saucepan heat oil over high heat with onion, pepper and celery, 3 minutes. Add garlic, tomatoes, bay leaves, Worcestershire and hot sauces. Stir in rice and slowly add broth. Reduce heat to medium and cook until rice absorbs liquid and becomes tender, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes. When rice is just tender add shrimp and chicken mixture and sausage. Cook until meat is done, about 10 minutes more. Season to taste with salt, pepper and Creole seasoning.
Creole Seasoning:
- 2½ tablespoons paprika
 - 2 tablespoons salt
 - 2 tablespoons garlic powder
 - 1 tablespoon black pepper
 - 1 tablespoon onion powder
 - 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
 - 1 tablespoon dried oregano
 - 1 tablespoon dried thyme

Combine all ingredients thoroughly.
Yield: ⅔ cup
Our well water is so hard that chunks occasionally come out of the non-softened water faucet. The other kitchen faucet supplies water from the water softener. It is “softer” but still fairly hard. For years we’ve been using distilled water to prolong the life of our coffee machine and my CPAP.
Distilled water seems to have turned into unobtainium locally; I purchased a small water distiller. Works like a charm! Now I can have as much coffee as I want without worrying about reserving enough purchased distilled water for the CPAP.
Mrs Morty and I drink about 6-8 cups a day. Bad words may get spoken if we both don’t get our usual AM caffeine hit.
Of course, bad words sometimes get spoken in the grogginess of the morning but said words don’t have to do with the lack of coffee.
Evening all. Nappage won out of swimmin’, so guess I’ll try tomorrow to get back in rhythm. And finishing off the Moanday WhataBurger, so no more eating out until the weekend. Need to make a braunsweiger run tomorrow once the banks open back up, along with a couple other things. Got up to 67F outside but a 75% chance of rain tonight according to the Weather Wizards.
As for the nephew’s age? One. One year old.
Utters several very, very bad words. Hope the kid gets the help he needs.
nellie, enjoy the new mattress. I have a king-sized one that I tried to flip exactly once, and while I escaped without personal and property damage I swore not to try it again. As for rotating it, I just sleep on the other side for awhile and then switch back…
JtC, we have folks who come around and pickup stuff every Monday, usually grasss clippings, etc., will have to see if they include things with engines. But may do your suggestion.
Also, I don’t know your normal nickname, hope you are not offended by what I used today.
cat glove, I call her lucky as Teela Brown was a character from Larry Niven’s “Ringworld” Sci-Fi book. Supposedly she was bred by aliens to be the luckiest person in the galaxy.
Morty, glad your distilling is helping.
OK, need to get a couple more things done and consider when I want to head off for bed. All y’all take care.
Howdy Y’all! We are home from men’s night over to the church house. A good crowd was on hand. We laughed, we drank, we ate, and as usual, we solved all the world’s problems, and, as usual, no one ever listens to us.
GodBod one year old! I’m with MetalMouse on sayin’ a lot of bad words. I hope he is somewhere where he’s safe. No baby should ever be harmed ever! GRRRRRR!!!
FlyBoy nummy soundin’ recipe for jambalaya.
Mort yay for the water disteller. Distilled water has indeed gotten right pricey!
Red hilarious that Nelson has found his jam!
.
JtC poor GG! How could you be so cruel! Also, I bet it was hilarious!
Nellie when we bought the new king sized mattress two months ago, it got delivered and the old mattress and box springs were taken away. The only way to do that, IMO. We do not turn or flip the mattress. It’s waaaaaay to heavy to deal with doin’ that.
Nettie glad you got the UI claim filed at least. Hope you enjoyed the shamrock shake. Not a big fan personally, but to each his/her own I say.
I make myself two Chemex pour-overs per day, one at 6 am and the other between 12 and 2 pm. I usually don’t finish either cup (apparently I’m not a fan of my coffee being less than piping hot), so I’m not sure if I’d consider myself addicted. However, if I drink coffee too late in the day, it’s not a matter of keeping me up at night, I just notice I don’t want it so much the next morning, and there’s nothing like the feeling of BEING READY FOR that first cup. So I cut myself off after 2pm.
I will perish in the zombie apocalypse.
Happy Presidents Day! May all your presidents be happy! Except that one guy. Screw him
lol I think its funny when little old ladies pop off …my Sunday school teacher a sweet little old lady whose car broke down and someone named a mechanic’s name and she blurted out "fuck that guy last time I used him, little bastard, ripped me off 2300 dollars " then she remembered we were in church after services and turned several shades of red
Did bacon cheeseburgers with Gouda and stone ground mustard tonight. With the usual Old Fashioned.
A grand total of (wait for it) $69!!!
nice.
(Sorry, I had to
 )

Question: Do you flip your mattress? I can only rotate mine horizontally because the bottom is made of gauzy material
Every 3 months. I should replace mine one of these days, but I enjoy my ancient rock hard mattress
Utters several very, very bad words. Hope the kid gets the help he needs.
This.
Happy Presidents Day! May all your presidents be happy! Except that one guy. Screw him
So say we all.

I’ve found that using the mobile app gets even cheaper.
For years I have struggled to load their mobile app on my iPhone. It has never worked. In person store managers’ eyes glaze over when I ask for assistance with it. Now it is the only way to access their special deals so I suppose I should try one last time…sigh.
meanie. I still used the bow, the gift is for a two year old who won’t notice a few hairs.
Thank. This story made me snort laugh right out loud and I am the better for it. Has GG’s pride recovered?
Yeah, distilled water has gotten very hard to find here too. I did figure out that in the baby food and formula aisle they sell jugs of ‘purified’ water for use with powdered formula and if you read the fine print it is distilled water. Granted it costs $1.59 a gallon instead of the .99 cents for the usual distilled in the water aisle, but it is worth it to preserve my thousand dollar CPAP. Go check in the baby formula aisle on the bottom shelf, read the fine print.
Good heavens. Poor kid. I hope he can be in a stable, safe place.
Unfortunately I do not have room for a garden
Which is a shame IMHO. Plants are good for the soul. Again, IMO. I live somewhere warm and everything grows here as long as it gets enough water and shade.
Our well water is so hard that chunks occasionally come out of the non-softened water faucet.
Our water has never been quite that hard but I have no problems believing you. The only time we drink tap water is when we go out to eat, and lately I’ve been carrying my sippy cup in with me just because tap water out this way is horrible. We used to fill our water bottles at the water store, but this place came with a RO system which is great.
JtC poor GG! How could you be so cruel! Also, I bet it was hilarious!
I know…hubs says I really need to stop tormenting him, but he is soooo easy. He’s so spoiled and indulged that even if he was smart, he wouldn’t know how to do anything because one of his slaves always anticipates his every whim. If VBC had been in the room, she would have saved him before he fell over.
Has GG’s pride recovered?
I’m glad I made you laugh, GG has no pride to hurt. He’s not smart enough for that sort of thing, he just couldn’t manage to get enough brain cells fired up to be able to realize that he could do something about it besides trying to look at the top of his head and think at the same time.
I did figure out that in the baby food and formula aisle they sell jugs of ‘purified’ water
That is super clever, I would never have thought to look there. (I’ll just bet you can distil your own water with your crockpot.)
That was fast on the roof JtC!
I was amazed. There were only 4 of them and they were doing a 5,500 sf roof. Us not-roofers were really expecting it to take a couple of days at least.
Now that they don’t have a leaky roof, the ceiling tiles need to be replaced. Or at least, that is my opinion.
One of the board members wants to buy some cans of spray paint for ceiling tiles. I understand they are designed to be used upright, so all you need to do is hold them over your head and hold the trigger. If his plan is picked, I plan to have to wash my hair that day.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Happy Mardi Gras!
Awake at 5 in the A.M. for some unknown and ungodly reason. Even the cat only gave me a half-assed greeting. Our big winter storm is supposed to start up later today and dump up to two feet of white stuff. Paczki and scrambled eggs for breakfast. But for now, It’s Coffee Time
tap water out this way is horrible.
Jacksonville’s tap water was flat-out nasty! Not only did it taste bad and sulfurous, but there was stuff floating in it! We lived in Clay County, which is south of Jax, and except for the last house, we always had a deep well - that was decent water. Our well here is wonderful!! It better be - it’s an $8K hole in the ground!!
FCD has a dental cleaning this morning and Tobias goes in for his 15-month check-up, so I’ll have some extra alone time today. Tho I expect the Toddler Tornado will be here by 9.
I’m irritated about something I really have no right to be irritated about. FCD is handling his mom’s finances, including setting up his brothers’ inheritances. But rather than arranging for everything to be divided in 3, he’s got 2 chunks going to the brothers, then what remains when his mom dies will be divided in 3. Which means the brothers will each end up with over $100K, and FCD might get $25K… maybe… He claims it’s what his dad would have wanted. I think it’s guilt - he still feels like he let his dad die.
Anyway, it’s truly none of my business - he and his mother are making the decisions, and she is giving him a chunk of change right now for all the work he’s doing, but it’s still a fraction of what the other two will get. As I said, I have no right to be angry about this and I feel selfish that I am, but he has always felt somewhat guilty that he’s been better off than his brothers (um, because he’s worked his ass off his whole life) and he continues to carry that guilt. But I said my piece to him and now I’m stepping back. And it’s not that I’m greedy - we’re fine financially - but it’s that the other two have pretty much wallowed in entitlement as long as I’ve known them. OK, 'nuff said.
It’s supposed to be sunny and warm this afternoon, so I’ll be taking the kids to the playground again. Thursday, we’re supposed to see low 80s!!
But tomorrow will be dreary and chilly, so 2 out of 3 days for frolic. I may take them to a different playground one of the days, just for variety. We shall see.
And I think I’ll haul the dirties downstairs and maybe launder a load or two. It’s easy when I have the kid in the basement. At a minimum, I can wash the sheets I stripped off the bed last week, since they’re already in the laundry room. Unlike some people, I have multiple sets of sheets, so I don’t have to strip-wash-remake in the same day. I’s classy like that!
And so the day begins. Happy Tuesday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 75 and mostly cloudy for the day. It’s laundry day, be still my beatin’ heart! Also, ‘tis Shrove Tuesday so we shall indulge in pancakes, bacon, snausages etc. over to the church house this evenin’. Actually I shall be there around three this afternoon to assist with the preparation of said comestibles and to get the steam table set up for servin’. Outside of that the usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall prevail.
MOOOOOOM families be families is all I can say. You spoke your piece and you are wise to now step back. Stil it can be really frustratin’ to see stuff like that.
Cookie stay safe and warm durin’ snowpocalypse.
shades even a saintly Sunday School teacher must sometimes blow off steam.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all! Happy Mardi Gras!
This morning I flipped the on switch on the espresso machine and it didn’t react.
My life would have been passing in front of my eyes. LOL
What’s your caffeinated choice to start the day?
Okay, you asked, so here we go. LOL
Every work day I stop at Dunkin’ Donuts that’s a half mile from work and pick up my XL coffee with cream only. Since I arrive at 6 AM and am a member of the main office coffee club, I make the coffee right after I scan in. Between 7 and 7:30, I am ready to refill my XL DD cup with a full cup of coffee. I keep half & half in the main office fridge. I do keep a dozen Keurig pods in my cubicle in the Tech Office for emergencies such as the coffee running out in the main office. Can’t take any chances.
On weekends, unless I’m up and moving early, I use my Keurig at home for coffee. If I am out early, it’s the DD a half a mile from where I live. Here’s where it gets weird. I save my XL DD cup so that, when I use my Keurig machine at home, I fill the DD cup and use that as if I was at work. I’m used to starting out with that amount, and I don’t like getting up again after a single cup from a regular mug. LOL
