Caffeine addicted MMP

Good morning!

It’s currently 41 degrees and dark outside. The expected high is 46 with rain showers or plain ol’ rain at times during the day. Temps start dipping into the 30s overnight. It was gusty here yesterday afternoon and last night, but we never lost power. There are several outages area from way up north to down south. It’s still pretty darn windy outside right now.

We got rid of the crap we loaded up in the Uhaul yesterday. Ah, the smell of hot garbage even on a cold, wet day. We swept out the truck, came back to pick up the Jeep, and took it back to UHaul where the girl there charged us a 25-dollar cleaning fee because she said it was muddy. Um, it was muddy when we picked it up, unfortunately, my husband only showed the guy the day we picked it up and didn’t take pictures, instead, trusting the guy would note it. Nope, he didn’t. Whatever, I wasn’t going to take it back home and wash it, we paid the stupid fee.

Back to the coffee discussion momentarily. I also have a small Keurig at the office so I can make coffee there. I generally have two mugs of either Dark Magic or Major Dickson’s while at the office. I get to the office before most nearby coffee stands open, so I just make coffee on my own. If I didn’t have the Keurig, I’d be using my Chemex or a regular coffee maker. Gotta have my coffee!

Speaking of the office, I’ll need to head back there tomorrow, unless we get a crap ton of snow. I doubt we’ll get any snow down here. I’ll have to make sure I take my Jeep and fuel it up today. Maybe I can get my husband to do it for me since he likes to drive it in sport mode and suck up all the fuel.

FCM, as others have noted, you’ve said your piece. I would find the situation galling too; especially since your husband is the one doing all the work. I wonder what happens when the brothers’ money is all gone and they start knocking at your door for more. If they can’t manage funds now, how the hell are they going to manage a windfall or inheritance?

Other than going to the dump yesterday, pushing the roll-suck around, doing laundry, and completing other minor chores, I really didn’t do anything than Netflix/Prime/Hulu/PBS/BBC and chill. I did log into TurboTax a few days ago and started my taxes so I could take advantage of the lower price for Deluxe. I’ve used it for years and don’t find it all that difficult. When I do my taxes I figure them both the standard deduction and itemizing. For the last few years, I’ve come out better by taking the standard deduction.

nellie, I can’t flip my mattress because it’s a pillow top. I do spin it around every few months to ensure even usage. In fact, it’s about time to do it again.

Well, that’s all the news that’s fit to print.

Have a great day!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 11c/53f today with no predicted change, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Eh, it’s cloudy but it’s fucking decent outside. Is that more positive? I’m really trying”. It isn’t that bad, I had a pleasant walk home yesterday evening through the park, and came through again this morning just as the geese were getting themselves out of the water and on to the grass for some serious pecking around. 'Twas a nice little coddiewomple.

nellie I flipped our king size mattress a few times but not any more because one of the springs has sprung so it will dig into one of us if I turn the mattress over. Just means it’s time to buy a new one.

Moooom as others have said, I would feel aggrieved on FCD’s behalf since he’s put in all the work, and it’s fair to say that he (and you) did a lot of running around to help his family as it became clear the oldiewonks could not cope without assistance. He may feel some sense of obligation to make sure his siblings are financially stable and can afford whatever care they need, and can then absolve himself of any responsibility should they choose instead to fritter away their inheritances. You’ve said your piece, hopefully he respects your opinion but I suppose you just have to let him do what makes his conscience right.

Joy of joys, I have grocery shopping to look forward to in my future. It is our regularly scheduled Tuesday activity so nothing out of the ordinary, just a chore to get through tonight before we indulge in leftover chilli for dinner. On the plus side, both my afternoon meetings have cancelled (one’s gone completely, the other moves to tomorrow) so I can get on with some actual work.

The youngest one - the one with the mental issues - won’t have direct access to his money. It will be in a fund that FCD will manage, and he’ll dole out a certain amount every month. If something comes up where he’ll need more (like a car repair) that will come from the fund. The other brother, frankly, isn’t going to live much longer. His share will go to his widow should he predecease his mom, and Danielle isn’t at all like her spouse, so no issue there.

I just finished setting up FIL’s keyboard in the basement - it’s a Yamaha with all kinds of fancy buttons and features, and I can’t get the thing to make a sound!! I’m hoping we’ve got the manual somewhere, but I’m sure I can find one on line. But I find it hard to believe that pushing the ON button doesn’t automatically allow music when I press a key. Tho, I just had a thought - is there a power button for the speakers?? I’ll have to check when I go downstairs.

It will go to Daughter when she has space for it. Meanwhile, it’ll live downstairs. Once I figure out how to get it working, the kids will play with it… when I allow. I can only take so much of their “musical” talents.

I got a fire going down there and my first load of laundry is probably about done. I changed the furnace filter (it was gross!!) and I scooped the cat box. And ran a load in the dishwasher. All before 8:30. Now I’m just waiting for SIL to deliver Tobias.

Our mattress can’t be flipped either. Which is fine - it’s a king and our room isn’t all that big. I used to flip our old king - OMG, what a challenge that was! Inevitably, I’d hit the ceiling fan at least once. Life was easier way back when we had a waterbed.

Eureka! I found the manual for the keyboard and I found the tuning guide for the hammered dulcimer, as well as a “How to play” book - woohoo!!! I also found a 2006 road atlas, or, if you prefer, a back up to your GPS!

Anyway, yay!

i do that to my furry ones. usually a sticker. lager always gets the “i voted” sticker. it usually takes them a bit of time (seconds) to figure it. they duck down first, then try to slide away. they do get it off them with in a few minutes.

cleared out more books last night for the pre paint prep. yes, i procrastinated on the start of the taping. it freezes me like a bow on gg.

treasure trov, fcm!

Morning all. Off on the braunsweiger run (for any new folks, I like only one type of braunsweiger and the only store that carries it is 28 miles away, so when I go there I buy right up to the expiration date (usually about 2+ months) shortly, need to get to the bank first as they were all closed yesterday. Also need to schedule the HVAC check as the temperatures are starting to get warmer (into the 70’s this week). And make time for the gym work.

FCM, it’s FCD’s decision, but I think you are right. And yay on finding the reading matter you need.

Taters, that’s a good system by the U-Haul place never to get return customers. Alamo rent-a-car lost my business forever for a supposed ‘dent’ once.

OK, need to make myself look appropriate for others and head on out. All y’all take care.

I didn’t know that was possible! Lord, what time do you get there? LOL

Paczki Day!

I bought 10 paczki in Chicago, 4 with plum filling, 4 with rose hip filling, and 2 with custard filling topped with chocolate. Left 4 for daughter and SIL. We’re enjoying the rest!

FCM nothing tears apart a family like dead people’s money. You said your piece. Let FCD do what he feels is right.

I’m having waffles instead of pancakes today. I don’t want to make a batch of pancakes for one.

In other news, this is what it’s like up here. We didn’t lose power, but it was sure a-blowin’!

https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/thousands-without-power-after-severe-winds-blow-through-western-washington/ar-AA17JvPg

Another short heave. I had a slice of meatloaf on my egg muffing today. Yum.

That and zombie hordes.

turns out your MIL was right all the time!!!

sooooo … what car will you be get’n???

It’s eerily quiet and sunny this morning in MSP. Waiting for the other shoe to drop this afternoon, when that slow-moving front moves in. Hard to believe that by this time tomorrow we’ll be buried, but forecasts here in the flatlands are pretty accurate, unlike the PNW where all those pesky mountains get in the way of things.

Looks like snow here, Saturday through Tuesday.

Birch bay, WA 10-Day Weather Forecast - The Weather Channel | Weather.com

But the forecast changes frequently.

Meanwhile, it’s 73F here in N/ Ali-bama…all you folks in bad weather’s path stay safe.

Shopping and banking are complete and lunch is quietly digesting. Still need to make a call to schedule the HVAC service but nothing much else on the agenda.

One to two inches of rain tomorrow. No wonder I have a migraine.

Going to see my cardiologist today. I got a phone call yesterday from his office. A very nice lady wanting to remind me to come in and bring all my prescriptions. Not the paperwork, the bottles.
ME: that’s an awful lot of stuff.
HER: Yep. We need to see 'em.
I have no idea why. At least they won’t want me to fill out the same questionnaire Providence would ask me to fill out every time I went in.
QUESTIONNAIRE: Have you been depressed lately?
ME: Yes. When you handed me this ridiculous questionnaire again, for the fiftieth time.

Later.

Yeah, when I went to a cardiologist, I had to bring my big bag o’ pill bottles with me. An intern sat down and looked at each bottle and carefully noted each one down in my chart. They also wanted me to bring any over-the-counter stuff I took, like calcium or Colace.

The Birthday Girl isn’t in today, because her nonagenarian mother is sick. Another cow-orker’s father died on Friday after a long illness.

The nominally Italian potluck is still on. I set out ‘charcuterie sampler’ (calabrese, Genoa salami, Italian dry salami, and soppressata), olives and feta in olive oil, and Fontina cheese.

It looks like we’re having spaghetti & meatballs, teeny weenies in BBQ sauce, French bread, parmesan cheese (I wonder if they mean squares/wedges, grated, or the American kind in a can?), two types of chips w/salsa and guacamole, and sodas. I’ll have a couple of meatballs, anyway (plus what I brought in). I have a low-carb 24-ounce Monster in the basement fridge. I need to slip off to TJ’s, so I think I’ll get my Cobb salad. If I don’t eat it with lunch, I can always take it home for dinner.

Howdy Y’all! We have slothed and achieved nappage. In a little while I shall betake myself over to the church house to commence preppin’ and cookin’ the big pancake feast. OYKW shall betake himself over there to partake of the feast. Sometimes he is smart.

FlyBoy nice of you to bring an adult Lunchable to the potluck.
