Thank you!
Also, I obviously forgot how to spell guarantee.

Thank you!
Having done sound for folkie bands for many years, I can tell you there is no way to tune a hammered dulcimer and keep it that way for more than half a tune ![]()
I keep snickering at that and all I can say is “who’s the good dog?!?”.
Oh…do be careful…this is how I got sucked into making vegan cheese. The first dog is just a gateway dog, ya know?
Petsitters out this way make good money, if you start doing it for strangers you really should start charging.
Hurray for you! I have full faith and confidence that you will totally rock the interview!
May I point out that if his consult is in March, he is probably not as bad as you think. Hubs went from “I feel funny” to a quad bypass in three days because his doctors thought he couldn’t wait for the normal consults and all. I am trying to “one up” your husband’s issues at all, I’m just trying to say that if he was really critical, they would act faster. Try to not worry quite as much, you won’t be good for anything if you get sick from self neglect.
BTW, does your husband wear pullover shirts or button ones? Cause no matter what they do to him, he will need to wear button shirts while he is healing. I learned that after spending two days and nights at the hospital with hubs. I remember wandering around the mens section at Macy’s trying to remember if t-shirt sizes worked for regular shirts. (Worry, stress, no sleep and fast food is a great recipe for severe brain fog.)
I am so glad he is doing this. Men sometimes go into denial about actually having feelings at times, I know hubs sure did when his mother died.
You are very sweet, thank you for the kind words. I know that I will always regret not being able to make those sort of memories with mom because now it is too late.
Yup, all the women I see folding sheets are just the sort who can reach the cupboards over the fridge.
OMG, yes, housing costs are just insane. The 20 year old single wide trailer we bought 30 years ago for 20G (land included) recently sold for 120G. Nice apartments in town cost more than my social security payment. I get the vapors just thinking about what our young people are dealing with.
Story time! We get micro-bursts out here.
Hubs used to be the prez of the Leathernecks MC and invited the local branch over for BBQ and beer one nice Saturday. All was going well, food was eaten, beer was being drank and lies were being told when suddenly a micro burst happened and everyone ran inside to get out of the wild wind and rain.
We were all looking out the windows in time to see a funnel come out of the clouds, pick up a neighbor’s shed, walk it across their yard and over the fence to toss it into a heap in an empty field.
Then the storm was over, just like that, so we saw the elderly couple come out and try to gather up their stuff that had been in the shed.
More beer happened and a plan was formed. It was the best plan ever!
The next morning the club was back with tools and building materials. We knew (well, I knew) that the elderly couple went to church at a certain time and I knew which church they attended, so as soon as they got in their car and left, a bunch of biker Marines, wearing their colors because of course nobody would ever notice THAT, went tearing into the field, grabbed the parts of the shed and started power building it in the neighbor’s yard. Banging and hammering and started, but of course nobody would notice a bunch of bikers rebuilding a shed in a small neighborhood.
The guys were even smart enough to post a scout in the church parking lot because of course nobody would notice a leather clad stranger on a Harley in the church parking lot, so they got warning when the couple was coming home.
Everyone scarpered back to our place and hid behind the windows to watch. The old couple came home and looked surprised and thrilled at their new and much better shed, so the guys were all happy and mission accomplished. More beers and burgers happened.
A couple of years later that place was sold to a family with children who used the shed for a play house before they got chickens.
Years later, a lady my age knocked on my door and held out a freshly baked berry pie and said “I know who your are and what you did, so this is for you.” Of course I slammed the door in her face and tried to hide under our waterbed…or not because that pie looked really good, so I invited her in.
Her parents were the couple who’s shed had been Marined. Of course they had known who had done the good deed, but while wife had wanted to thank us, the husband was adamant that they let us think that we had fooled them. The husband passed away and the wife had always wished that she had told us thank you, but her health was too bad for her to come back up the mountain.
The daughter had baked the pie with her mother supervising and had put it in a box straight out of the oven and drove up the mountain to tell me how much her parents had appreciated what the guys had done for them.
It was a very good pie.
Those are very good guys.
I loved riding with them, they were great guys and it was a great club that did and still does good work. Doing fund raising at biker events taught me to be totally shameless about asking for money*, hence the ease of getting a new roof donated.
We had to give the club up when I couldn’t ride anymore, which made me really sad. I encouraged hubs to continue but he didn’t want to spend every weekend away from me.
Usually about 3-4 times a week, when I was growing up it was nearly every day, but I’m trying to moderate my intake these days. And despite the travel and eating 3-4 times a day on the ship and not working out for several weeks, I’m still under 270lbs according to the scale at the gym.
Salads are once a week (Big Bowl, nothing else) plus when I dine out on Sundays.
Ok, enough dietary information for now. Tired and still need to make up my bed before sleepage.
That was strange. Opened the front door for Buddy, and there was a grocery bag with about a dozen oranges hanging on the outside doorknob. I have not received any communication explaining this, nor has DH. I haven’t ordered grocery delivery for a couple of days, and generally don’t order fresh produce that way anyway (I typically prefer to choose my own).
Speaking of Buddy, for a day or so, he’ll fuss to get outside, then either come back in in a few minutes or not even stay out long enough for the human to close the door before he’s hurrying back in.
Bonus points for an 11-degree spread in reported current weather, depending on which site I ask. The TV news stations seem to agree on 33, Accuweather, TWC, and Clime (which gets their info from NOAA) agree in the ballpark of 44. Honestly, I think it feels more like somewhere in the low 30s out there.
This evening’s just shaping up a bit odd, that’s all.
Are they store oranges or home grown ones? If it is the second, someone picked all of their oranges before the freeze and gave one of your neighbors a couple of boxes. Your neighbor couldn’t use all of those oranges so grabbed the grocery bags they had and shared the bounty with everyone.
I would eat those oranges with no fear. Of course, I live in a neighborhood where it is advised to always lock your car during zucchini season…
JtC, the Marines and pie story brought tears to my eyes. I love those guys! Also the couple and their daughter.
Speaking of tears, my brother called me tonight. I’d emailed my siblings about yesterday, and he called to tell me I’ve had way too much bad stuff happen to me and don’t deserve an iota more. I had to blink back tears.
And Ms. Dog managed to chew the ear of the only toy her person sent with her. Stuffing is spilling out, and I’m sure that’s not good for her, so I took the stuffed animal away. Now she has no toy, so it’s impossible for us to play. I texted her person, but so far, no response. I guess tomorrow I’ll walk her to PetCo. They allow dogs in there. I gave her a soft toy for Christmas that had no stuffing for this very reason. Maybe she chewed it to shreds.
I’m not that paranoid
. Not sure how to tell if they came from a grocery produce section or someone’s tree, but in my area, citrus trees are not that unusual.
Do wish I knew who to thank. ![]()
I eat mine with crackers or something like it these days
Not sure how to tell if they came from a grocery produce section
Back when I was a kid, we really did get oranges for Trick or Treat. Parents were told to check the oranges for razor blades because bad people hated kids or something that I never understood. Dad showed us a newspaper picture (black and white, no color back then) of an unpeeled orange with razor blades sticking out and told us to not eat anything that looked like that. None of us kids ever did.
Anyhow, grocery store oranges are perfect and symmetrical. The color is even and slightly unnatural and they don’t really smell like oranges should. Neighborhood oranges often smell better but usually don’t have that “finished” look that store bought ones have. You should be able to tell by taste, though.
We did get winds and nasty weather this way, I woke up to the skies exploding around 4 and hubs woke up because of the sleet pounding on the roof around 5. One of the local hummers perched on the hummer feeder and started drinking even before hubs had managed to hang it back up. (We take it in at night so it doesn’t freeze and hubs takes it out at dawn.)
It started snowing around 8am so the ground was white when I got up earlier than I wanted because the yard flock was starving to death and yelling about it. They got fed three times today because it was so cold and I know they depend on the food at times like this.
It snowed and then it sunshined and then it snowed again then everything melted off again. The low spot in our front yard is a muddy pond and our ramp is unusable. We really do need to get a couple of tons of river rock spread out there.
Well, I’ve eaten one of my mystery oranges. The peel did NOT want to come off, but I won. Orange was a bit on the tart side, but not unpleasantly so, and it was quite juicy. Good fruit. Looking over the remaining ones, they really aren’t quite “pretty” enough for a grocery store.
Up, caffeinated, off to heave
there was a grocery bag with about a dozen oranges hanging on the outside doorknob
Reminds me of the Surprise Chinese Food outside my door that one time.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 68 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 83 and mostly cloudy for the day. 'Twill be a day for shorts for sure. The big item on today’s agenda is an appointment with our accountant at eleven to get taxes done. This will be five days in a row I have had to don acceptable attire to be amongst the public. I am very much incensed at this!
I have read all, but have a very low attention span right now, so yays, boos, hugs, noogies, chitlins, trouts and how you doin’s all around as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy Then I suppose I must purtify, dress in appropriate attire and once again face the great unwashed. Life is so cruel!
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Does Tobias have one of those pacifier clips?
He has multiple clips on lanyards that my daughter crocheted. Unfortunately as he’s gotten more active, they’re more likely to be pulled loose, which is what happened this time. I was hoping he’d be tired enough to fall asleep without it, but he’s not ready to be weaned off it apparently. Drives my mother crazy, but as far as I’m concerned, if he gives it up before he’s about 3, I’m OK. I hate seeing 4-5 y/o kids waling around sucking on them. None of my business, but it makes me crazy!
I love that stuff but almost never eat it
Same here - I haven’t had any in ages, but it used to be a staple. Last 2 times I bought it was to make the paté for FIL. Guess that won’t be happening again…
Having done sound for folkie bands for many years, I can tell you there is no way to tune a hammered dulcimer and keep it that way for more than half a tune
Well, you’re encouraging…
Any hints or advice you can offer? Or devices that will be more reliable than my ear? I never had any problems tuning my guitar, all 6 strings of it. I suspect I’ll need some sort of electronic tuning fork for this challenge.
Yup, all the women I see folding sheets are just the sort who can reach the cupboards over the fridge.
I dunno - my arms aren’t all that long but I make it work. I don’t do the smoothing/even-ing till I have all corners tucked together - then it’s easily managed. < shrug > Maybe it’s because my mom taught me when I was a kid and it’s just second nature now.
OMG, yes, housing costs are just insane.
My daughter is struggling with this. Their house is a 2 BR, which will work for a few more years, but at some point, Roxy will need her own space. The house just across the street from them came on the market - 1326 sq ft, no garage, tiny yard, $320K. I know in some markets, that would be an amazing bargain, but here it’s definitely on the high side. Plus it’s in an HOA neighborhood.
It’s more than we paid for our house on 3 acres, tho that was 19 years ago… I wish there was a way we could help them buy it, but at current interest rates, the mortgage payment would be almost double what they have now. So unless we win the lottery…
Today is still predicted to hit low 80s here, tho it’s mid-40s right now. I’ll probably have to change out of my sweatpants before I take the kids to the playground. Or not. We’ll see. FCD was talking about trying to repair the shop roof - there are a couple of small holes from falling branches. The roof is steel, but it’s not over plywood, so not strong enough to withstand piercing. I wish he’d wait till tomorrow so I can help - I can’t do much when Tobias is here.
Tomorrow, BIL and MIL are coming over. I’m going to help BIL do his taxes - with luck, I can teach him how so he can do his own in the future. It should be pretty easy - his sole income is SS. Unless he gets a job, his taxes should take about 10 minutes - in fact, he may be exempt because of how little he’ll be getting. But that’s for next year. He did work in 2022.
When I’m done with him, I may be taking MIL to Food Lion if she wishes. I should probably plan something for lunch, too. Must cogitate. Later. Time to surf now.
Happy Thursday!!
Snowed all night and still coming down in buckets. Luckily, it’s dry snow and there’s a hefty wind blowing it around, so we’re not getting buried in the stuff, just a lot of drifting. A city plow makes a periodic pass down our street, as it’s an emergency thoroughfare. Not much traffic out there, though; just a few hardy souls.
